A gunshot wound shouldn't take any longer to heal than injuries sustained from a bomb blast and waking up from an induced coma Because at least Palmer was showing some effects. Milo, in the first few minutes of the show, was talking with Nadia, and takes his left hand, reaches up and touches the right side of his face. Episodes like this are the reason I started watching this show. From the president pulling the bluff to Jack in a classic shootout and lynching, it was very entertaining. Now Jack will be going against CTU orders and probably have the world after him, but there must be still some other plot thickening as the previews show Palmer requesting the VP resign.
