Most of you out of towners state that you are diehard bills fans but every chance you guys get you got to throw your cheap shots in about the city or the region. & it is not the minority of the people that are on this board that live outside of WNY that do this, it is the majority. I got a simple question for you out of towners. Why would you root for a football team aka the Buffalo Bills who represent a city & a region that you have so little respect for & dont particularly like? Would it not make more sense to just root for the team in the region you live in, Ramius, you could root for the Tampa Bay, Chef you could root for San Diego or Oakland, DC Tom you could root of course for the Redskins. Teams that represents an area where you obviously respect & like? Why root for a team that represents an area that is a standup punchline to alot of your jokes? I'm a Buffalo Bills fan not a Buffalo fan. It's that simple. That's why I moved from Buffalo but still root for the team. And the fact that my whole family (fairly large) all still live in WNY I do have some ties to the area. But the big reason is it's sooooo much fun to piss you people off. People that are out of town dont realize all the beautiful condos going up on the harbor. I work right around there & they are actually building 1 more big unit as we speak. These condos as the senator said go for $500K & up. Someone must be buying them if they keep building them. I talk to the one contractor on my way to work this morning & he said they are building 2 more of these within the next 3yrs. My guess is there are about 15-20 units per building. The inner harbor is shaping up where you could actually walk around it & once the Casino is put up which they already started plowing the foundation & the bass pro goes up it will be a totally different looking city. I bet the Bass Pro cashiers will be lining up to buy the waterfront condos. I rag on Buffalo mostly because the city pisses me off due to the fact it seems hell bent on keeping itself a shithole. I'm a fan of the Buffalo Bills because i am from the area and spent the first 22 years of my life there. 90% of my family still lives in the area. I like going back to visit. But unless things change drastically change, i'm never going back to live. Buffalo might not seem too bad until you go and live someplace else for a while. You know, someplace with jobs, a good economy, much lower taxes, etc. Toss in great weather and you can easily see how bad the situation in Buffalo is. They worked for it, good for them... Maybe they should start paying the people who actually WORK and DO the WORK for a living a little more... 100k is not a lot to ask... Spun Posted April 3, 2008 Share Posted April 3, 2008 I would consider buying a condo to live in Buffalo on a part time basis. I would like to visit more often than I do and not stay with friends nor a hotel. But the property taxes are not conducive to this idea. Buffalo needs to create a demand for businesses and people to reside in the area. The high tax rate does not accomplish these goals. Essentially, I would be throwing money into a tax pool but seeing little or no appreciation on my "investment". I realize that any expenditure on property is a gift of sorts to the Buffalo economy but the property tax is excessive. The alternative is to have a job base that produces in tax receipts what would be lost with a lesser property tax. Or somehow create a system where there is a lesser need for such tax revenues (Police? Not a chance!)? Buffalo (and New York State) is in an economic jam. The property tax is necessary and harmful. The lower dollar has helped some in the Buffalo area but this windfall is not widespread nor will it continue long term.
