Broncos | Team shopping two first-round picks

Wed, 15 Mar 2006 08:23:37 -0800

Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Denver Broncos are shopping their two first-round picks in the 2006 NFL Draft in exchange for early picks in the 2007 NFL Draft. The team does not have much cap space left after paying out several up-front signing bonuses.

The Bills should make a deal with Denver, and Denver will quickly oblige if for no other reason than they know (as does every Bills fan known to mankind) that the 2006 Bills will likely bring them a top 3 2007 draft pick, if not the number one pick.

Intriguing but Ralph would have to pony up two first round contracts himself.

Minnesota may be a dance partner as well. Childress indicated backup Brad Johnson would ascend to the starting role in 2006 but he hoped to acquire a young quarterback to develop for the near future. Childress also did not rule out packaging several draft picks -- they now own the 17th, 48th and 51st picks -- to move up in the first round and select one of the draft's three premier quarterbacks: USC's Matt Leinart, Texas' Vince Young and Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler.

"You look at all those eventualities and see if you feel like there is something," Childress said.

We will be lucky to win one preseason game...maybe a controlled scrimmage....I don't even want to think about the absolute horror of the regular season...

I want Vince Young to be drafted by an AFC team.

Right...we can operate just fine without an offensive line. Maybe the defensive ends will be so put off by the lack of resistance they will blow by JP, Holcomb, McCown or whoever. Maybe...but I kind of f-ing doubt it.

Why don't you go watch figure skating or something? It suits the need for drama.

I sure hope the Bills play hard and display effort, and win a few exciting games this year. Maybe beat Miami and steal one from NE. I hope I get to see JP grow and become the QB we want him to be. If none of these things happen, I may be disappointed, for a week at a time, even, but it won't ruin my life. People need some perspective.

Thanks, but I got my fill of the Olympics.

And don't worry, the Bills losing won't ruin my life. I just want to see us field a good competitive team for a change. I guess that makes me less of a Bills fan than you.

And thanks for the "perspective"..I needed that.

Hey, I'd love to see it happen, too. And it might. I'm just stating that the fact we haven't signed every other team's franchise player 5 days into free agency does not concern me.

It's the impatient "win now" mentality that caused the total backfire last year and sent the team spiralling instead of developing towards something better, sooner.

And I do understand your stance. My patience perhaps is thinning. We're looking for the same result, I just hope it's sooner than later. No hard feelings.

Go BUFF!!

OK, trade next year's 1st and 4th for Denver's first first-rounder this year. Then trade our #8 to Minny for the 17th and their second and fourth. Still pick twice in the first, have two in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth. Then field a team of rookies.

If there is any possibility that we could trade our 1st & 2nd round picks in 2007 for Denver's 21st and 29th in 2006, DO IT, AND DO IT NOW BEFORE THE BRONCO'S come to their senses.

Please remember that many juniors and redshirt sophmores declared this year because of the new collective bargining talks.

This makes the 2007 draft class to be potentially weaker, so this would be an incredible deal for the Bills.

OH, BABY!

Here's the breakdown, from draft value chart. A 22+29 is about equiv. to a #8. So a str8 swap of our next year #1 to denver for this years 22 & 29 is a perfect swap. Work in a contingency to make up any big differences next year with a day 2 pick xchange either way. Also trade our #8 to Vikings for their #17 and #48 this year.

We Get....a whole new team! Hoping we also sign Pickett:

17 - Winston Justice, OT USC

22 - Kiwanuka, DE BC

29 - Nick Mangold, C OSU

42 - Ko Simpson, S S.Carolina

48 - J Addai, RB LSU

70 - McIntosh, LB Miami

73 - Bradie Croyle, QB Alabama

even tom donahoe could find one good backup if u give him 7 picks on the 1st day!
