Go figure.  Get sacked 8 times = a lot of negative yardage.

8 sacks 70 yards.  14 sacks 68 yards.  It’s not just more sacks more yards the amount of yards lost was about double Thursday night.  The game is an anomaly though.

Allen was running around and backwards like a rookie.  I am not putting most of it on him but, why would he think he’s going to be able to turn his back to Anderson and Hunter and spin away from those guys?  I thought he’d at least figure it out by halftime but he kept doing it!

self preservation?

Zero prep for the #1 defense in the league. The positive is theyll have plenty to study and clean up moving forward

Some of that is just the crappy Thursday product.  the Bills are taking every opponent’s best shot this season because the league is smelling blood and because there is extra parity this year.  Them having to go on the road against an elite defense on a short week after a string of physical games was always going to be rough.  And they don’t have cerebral coordinators, and tend to play it safe anyway - they tried to lean into their best plays on both sides of the ball and to rely on near-perfect execution given the limited prep time.

It didn’t work, but it’s not Who They Are. But they now have (yet again) left themselves with near zero margin for further error.

I think what we are witnessing is we have a subpar Quarterbacks coach.

Allen is in his head, that is not a good thing. He needed someone to tell him during the game to throw away the ball. He needed a mind adjustment in real time, not days later during film review.

You can't throw the ball away if you cant escape pressure and set.

Self-preservation would be to dirt it as someone suggested upthread.  McD knows that Allen could easily have suffered a severe injury the other night and then the season is truly over.

I've said it multiple times, and I'll keep saying it - it was completely ignorant of Beane or McDermott to think last year's offense was sustainable. Imagine after the 2017 season when we finally broke the drought, if Beane or McDermott was happy with that and just continued with that team. I don't know why they thought going into this season with the current offense was gonna work. Thinking Coleman would be become "the guy" was way too big of a risk

That was a big risk. I also think they severely overestimated what Joshua Palmer would bring to the offense. To their credit they look to be right on Kincaid improving when healthy because he's looked awesome when remotely healthy. The caveat there of course being he hasn't stayed healthy.

And no designed an runs.  When a front runs up the field and the DBS are in man, Allen can go for a quick hitter run and do damage.

The fundamental strategy was poor all night, mainly because Houston very often knew what we were running because we refuse to disguise and break tendencies

The only pass play where I felt like we got em was the 4th and 27 hook and ladder. That was really some stuff our defense would give up on that spot.

Also, it's hard to call designed runs for Allen when Houston did what they did. They kept amazing gap integrity. They didn't rush Allen as much as walk the pocket back into his lap. And they knew they had time because our guys couldn't get open.

I don’t think it’s that.

I think the way teams are spying him is working and for some reason we don’t have a counter to it.

Sobering realization:

Allen isn’t 24 anymore and can out run those spies with a move or a stiff arm thru the ground.

We better figure this out quick.  Been said 1000x we are wasting his prime with this sad collection of talent around him.

1 minute in - watch number 0 spy Allen

Watch all the plays.  Spy.

I don’t think Josh is sure he’s going to out run them.

I know people are going to knee jerk react to what I'm about to say here. You're spot on. He's not the same with his mobility as he used to be. I know people want to point at Brady and McDermott, but Allen himself is most to blame here. It's his body and he knows how he feels. When he does run, he never has had what I would call a light running style. Even going back to Wyoming....hits have started adding up. It likely takes him a lot longer to heal than it used to. I think physically, we are closer to the end of his mobility than most of us realize.

Seems a regression in o line protection plus Josh having the weight of a non functional offense on his shoulders coupled with wr’s who can’t get separation is taking it’s toll

Several times this year Allen has set personal records for most time from snap to throw. Houston is an extreme case...by he's having to hold the ball longer because...wait for it....no one can get open. And Brady makes the issue worse by calling long developing mesh concepts.

Now, mesh is great because it is what we wanted...see the scheme get people open. But they didn't have the time for that Thursday.

This is what happens when Allen has to manufacture time because His WR's cannot get open which is why many of us couldn't believe they didn't address the WR situation in the offseason other than Joshua Palmer who is clearly not the answer and never was.
