Game week thread - Buccaneers at Bills

My main concern is that no one at One Bills Drive seems to understand how bad that Miami loss was. It is business as usual this week. Someone should have been fired (Joe Brady), and there should be public anger from coaches and players. Josh moped after the game. That's not what anyone wants to see. Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers would have spit fire from the podium. It was not just a loss. It was a team that got exposed and embarrassed, and they don't seem to care about it. 

 

If they lose this week, the wheels will come off.

How can you possibly understand any of that?  That is just a bunch of stuff you made up in your head.  You have no idea about what is going on behind closed doors.

Here's a comment made by a Giants fan on the Athletic which I think encapsulates how we are all feeling:

 

"As another NYG fan who would love to see the Bills and Allen throttle Mahomes, Kelsey et.al., I don’t think McDermott can beat Reid. I would be feeling like I am rolling the stone up the hill again knowing it’s going to roll over me again on the way down if I was Josh Allen."

We better get that run defense figured out before Tampa. That’s going to be a handful. I’m sure Irvin will conveniently back just in time for us. Nothing else is going to matter if TB can run it all over us. That’s got to be priority one

Who cares?  And besides. the odds of KC/Bills meeting again this year is passingly small as one or both will likely not make the playoffs and if they do they likely would not meet until very late.  Giants fan-- ha.

My closest friend is a huge fan so I've watched a ton of Buccaneers games this season. Just general thoughts:

 

- They aren't the same team without Bucky Irving. They are getting Sean Tucker more involved and he's a better fit than Rachaad White for what they like to do but he's still just a guy

- Godwin and Evans being hurt is big for them. It's just the familiarity with Baker. But Egbuka is the real-deal stud and Tez Johnson is a burner. Our secondary will indeed be tested. Hope Benford is back

- I actually think they're at their best when they get Cade Otton involved. Move the chains easier and open up the lid on the defense. Bishop and Poyer need to be disciplined in this one. I think this is an important area to win 

- Baker won't get rattled like Tua, Dalton, Rattler, etc who we've beat up on. But he still is prone to trying to fit one too tight of a window

- Defensively they're definitely better against the run than the pass. They're good at bottling up the run game but are prone to big plays. I would hammer the rock as much as possible. They're weak in 11 personnel but that doesn't mean much to us. When they get beat through the air, it's usually against a stud wide-out so again doesn't apply much here. They also have been pretty decent against slot WR's and more prone to getting beat on the outside from what I can tell. I don't have the stats to back that up but just a feeling

 

Overall the loss of Kincaid hurts but I would go heavy packages and maybe even involve Alec Anderson more with Hawes and just run it and hopefully get a guy like Palmer or Gabe going on the outside

Agree.  I could never root against the Bills and every victory gives me hope that this will be the year.  It will be no different Sunday and then again on Thursday.  I would love to say "hey I was wrong about McD and Bean". I am still holding out hope the Bills are on their way to a Super Bowl this season. 

 

The easiest path forward over the next 5 years is for the Bills to get their act together and go on a run that results in going to a Super Bowl this season.  Change is fine in theory, but.....................

That's definitely the easiest path... but it doesn't feel that likely. We are making basic mistakes--not getting Josh a receiver? refusing to develop a downfield passing game?--which we didn't make in 2020 or 2021. Yes we beat KC. But maybe we're so micro-focused on beating KC that these other younger teams who play nothing like that are suddenly just as big a threat. Anyway, we're all spinning out a little this week.

The offense better not turn the ball over 3 times either but I know we should only focus on a "bad defense".

I agree and I am less confident that we will go on a run then I was in 2021 & 2023 when the Bills were worse off but then went on impressive streaks to roar into the playoffs.

 

The other more subtle issue I see is that last season was a transformational year for the offense.  While much of the Brady bulldozer, run heavy, short passing game had been implemented there still were glimpses of that semi reckless, peddle to the medal, Allen wearing a cape offense that had proved so potent over the last 5 seasons.  You saw it in the KC, LA Rams & Detroit games.  This season we have only seen it in the 4th quarter o the Baltimore game.  Not only does it look like Brady/McD don't want to shift it into overdrive unless all other options are exhausted they don't have the offensive roster to do it.

Damn. Relax. It’s a mid season divisional loss. I dropped 1K on them and I’m not even that upset.
