So with the starting 5 and Anderson/VDM that takes you to 7 slots. I think they usually carry 9-10 O-line and I think likely they will carry 9. I think SVPG starts on PUP or goes to IR and they will reevaluate them. So then I think Grable and Lundt round out the last two spots on the bench. Grable with a year under his belt I think is someone they probably like as emergency depth and Lundt is probably the inactive 9th linemen they will develop. He was unseated by Grable until Grable got hurt last year then RVD became the swing. That’s where the RVD trade stuff comes from. It’s pretty clear RVD struggles playing RT 2 1 Quote
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Everything I've been reading makes it sound like the likeliest to be cut or traded is VDM. I suppose if Beane can get a significantly better return with one of the other names traded, things could change there too. Sounds like Lundt is more versicle as can play tackle and some guard. Maybe CVPG gets put on IR, but then who is their backup center? Think the other Edwards may also have a better chance of making the roster if they need depth inside than VDM as been stated, he's tackle only. The only big advantage VDM has is experience which does count for something. Quote
juno999 Posted August 17 Posted August 17 I believe they put Van Pran Granger on PUP which creates a spot for Lundt. Looking ahead to the offseason, McGovern and Edwards are FAs and Torrance enters the last year of his rookie deal. Beane has a bunch of OL backups on cheap contracts so I believe he’ll want to keep as many as possible. 1 Quote

It’s nice to be on this side of the equation. I had a similar thought after looking at the current roster’s D-linemen. How many will they keep and who gets cut? There are as many as 10 that have a legitimate chance to make the 53 without even factoring in the future personnel challenge of having two more serving six week suspensions. Does a veteran get traded or just cut outright? Do the Bills try to sneak one of their draft picks onto the PS and hope that no other team ‘steals’ them? Do they play the PUP IR game to protect valuable future assets? Stay tuned for answers within a couple of weeks. But, to your point, it is a luxury to be in the driver’s seat with an abundance of talent. Now, they just need to turn this ‘problem’ into wins and championships. 1 Quote
JaBu Posted August 17 Posted August 17 (edited) Keeping SVPG on PUP is the easiest and best answer. Possible injuries and roster views will make it clearer after 4 weeks. Feeney or Jacob Bayer, who was said to be looking good earlier in camp, should be easy to get on the PS as an Anderson backup if needed. “If a player starts the NFL season on the Reserve/PUP list, they are eligible to return during the season after missing at least the first four games. Teams then have a five-week window to begin a 21-day practice period, during which the player can be activated to the 53-man roster.“ Edited August 18 by JaBu Quote

Lundt would be the one to try and stash given some teams were scared off from even drafting him due to his measurables, but if he puts out more tape like Preseason Week 1, no chance he makes it either. Joe Buscaglia mentioned the Bills potentially trading for a 1T DT in a recent article. Speculation, but he typically has a reason for saying stuff. If Lundt continues to impress, I could see them offering Van Demark up for a pick or player swap, but if they can stash SVPG due to injury and keep them all.. that’s probably ideal. Dawkins, Brown, McGovern, Torrence & Edwards Van Demark, Grable, Lundt & Anderson PUP/IR Van Pran Granger I can never keep the Vans straight. Only one gets to stay; there's just too much confusion. 2 Quote

VDM filled in well at tackle but that’s the only position he plays, and CVPG has missed all of camp. Thoughts? CVPG can still go on the PUP list because he hasn't practiced at all yet so that's an easy stash. My concern with keeping Grable over VDM is health. Neither Lundt nor VDM showered themselves in glory tonight but if it comes down to it VDM is very tradeable. He can play, has some decent tape in the league, and plays a premium position. To be perfectly honest I'd like to find a way to keep both of them. You hoard tackles when you have them. If you need a guard it's much easier to get a serviceable guy midseason and you can probably stash one or two on your own PS. You cannot get a LT off the scrap heap in November and if you cut a decent one, someone will sign them. Quote
