Definitely a tough business.  Only 25 years old and his career looks bleak now....at just 25.

Treylon Burks career earnings:  $11,705,101

That should take some of the sting away.

If he has been smart with it. That's not usually the case with 22 year olds being handed that type of $$$.

That’s true but if he blows it he can’t blame anyone else.

The Titans have Calvin Ridley and nobody else for their #1 overall selection QB to throw to. That tells you how bad Burks must be either physically or mentally.

They brought in Tyler Lockett, maybe he has something left?

Van Jefferson did have one season in his career where he produced, maybe he can repeat?

Okonkwo is a reasonable TE for a rookie to have.

They then have Tyjee Spears and Pollard out the backfield, both reasonable receivers.

Add the rookies they drafted in Elic Ayomanor and D I K E from the Gators, managed to acquire Restrepo in the UFA class who many wanted the Bills to draft…

Not entirely awful. Not entirely great either. We’ll see what Ward is truly all about.

Well to be fair, had they kept AJ it would have done nothing for them.  So at least sucking more to where it eventually got them a #1 overall pick a couple years later to draft a QB is better for their prospects moving forward than paying AJ Brown a ton of money to play on a crap team and maybe win a game or two more where they don't get the #1 pick.

Trading AJ was still the right move for them.  Its pointless to have a top end WR if your QB sucks, so you sure shouldn't be paying one and maybe doing just enough better to further hurt your chances to get a high enough pick to go after your QB of the future.

Which is why I think it was a mistake for the Jets to pay Wilson.  I think he is a top tier talent, but they are not winning anything with Fields.  I would have cleaned house, moved Wilson and Sauce for a bounty of picks, not signed fields, and just sucked my way to the top pick next year and look to rebuild their franchise with the top pick in the draft and a bounty of other picks the next year or two.

All the Jets have done is insure they are not going to be good enough to do anything important and not bad enough to land an elite QB prospect.  That is football purgatory, and Titans were smart enough to recognize that and avoid the mistakes teams like the Jets make over and over again.

The Jests under Woody Johnson and his sons have prioritized putting butts in the seats (ie, maximizing profits) over building a winning team for more than a quarter century.  They always chase one or two big names to con fans into thinking that this year will be different from the previous years.  They are remarkably like the Bills when Russ Brandon ran the team.

I mean the best thing for a rookie QB isn't weapons usually, its a run game, and an OL keeping them upright and confident.  If they're worried about protection it won't matter much who you're throwing to.

They used their last 2 first rounders, and then 2 free agents this year so they clearly want to address it - but this was a brutally bad unit a year ago and cushenberry is coming off an achilles.  Bill Callahan's a good OL coach though so if they're smart they're going to go pretty gung-ho on running the ball and keeping Ward out of trouble.

They're an interesting team though - #2 in defensive yards allowed, 30th in points allowed - turnovers were a killer for this team (they lost 52-14 to the lions and gave up 225 total yards).  I tend to think teams do come in with conservative game plans against teams like this (the jets with wilson for example).  Like the only way were going to lose to them is if we turn it over so lets just not turn it over.  Their offense was that bad.

100% agree but the other poster said “nobody else for Cam Ward to throw to.” There’s plenty of talent there, it’s just not elite.

The offensive line is imperative for nearly all QBs to have success, let alone a rookie. The additions of Dan Moore and Kev Zeitler will definitley help/improve that unit. Don’t think it’ll be quite the atrocity it was last year.

Good point about the defense. They were a pretty quality for no household names on there, clearly let down by the other side of the team specifically the QBs. Levis and Rudolph were pitiful. The stats can even back that up.

As long as Ward can remain some composure and not display what the other two did; forceful, rushed and unnecessary decisions, then I can see that team being a complete difference from last few years.
They have a brutal schedule for a team who  claimed the #1 pick. Those division games are going to be essential to win.
Rams/9ers/Broncos/Chiefs/Chargers/Seahawks will be tough outs. They then have the Cardinals and Pats, don’t think they’ll be rollovers either.

Good litmus test for Ward if he plays.
