SCBills Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Newsom is talented, and probably the most equipped of current Dems to deal with the current bro/meme Republican culture, but he can’t be making too many more missteps like this… He’ll already have to defend California to the Rust Belt and Sun Belt - that’s a big enough mountain to climb without stepping on rakes along the way.

Agreed. The idiotic playground insults have to stop. This isn’t the WWE. It’s reality, and people’s lives. I’ll add this: there’s a good chance that Newsom is the nominee. But Buttigieg might be able to crack the bro culture a bit. 1

I think he’s incredibly smart, articulate and a heck of a debater. I don’t agree with a ton of what he stands for, but I can respect that he goes on Fox and comes out with viral clips where he owned the interviewer. Unfortunately for him, he’s gay with a husband that most men view as a punchline. Id vote for a gay guy, but im just speaking in pure reality. Chasten and him riding around bikes together, taking maternity leave for an adopted baby… it’s just not going to work. Furthermore, black people, black men specifically, will not vote for him. His polling numbers with the black community are insanely bad and without 80-90% black support, Dems can’t win. Edited July 11 by SCBills 1 1

I’m good with it – this country clearly prefers being entertained by a clown packed with lies, ego, and empty promises.

Thats all well and good, but Dems have to deal with reality and Pete is going to have to do some seriously heavy lifting to (not just win back some white men) but more importantly find a way to not be polling in the single digits with black folks. If he gets smoked in the South Carolina Primary with the Dem electorate heavy black, it’s probably a wrap.

My bet is that the country will have had enough of post-Obama dolts and will want the smartest among them (again, and for a change). I’ll add that this thing with cops running around in masks pulling people off of the street is not going to be very popular in minority communities if it spreads outside of Cali, which obviously helps Pete. 3 minutes ago, SCBills said: Thats all well and good, but Dems have to deal with reality and Pete is going to have to do some seriously heavy lifting to (not just win back some white men) but more importantly find a way to not be polling in the single digits with black folks. He’ll do well in Iowa and if he does decently in SC in a multiple candidate field he’s got a shot. Edited July 11 by SectionC3

I honestly don’t know how to read polling on the deportation stuff. Newsom sure as hell didn’t help the cause by feeling the need to defend a marijuana facility harboring illegal immigrants and unaccompanied trafficked minors that has a history of workplace safety violations. Up to this point, Dems have been successfully using the media to blue pill the Joe Rogan’s of the world on this topic, but this highlights that a lot of these stories aren’t actually what they seem .. and Newsom decided to blow the lid of a pretty bad one. Also recent polling by well respected outlets still show 50-48 in favor of deporting all illegal immigrants. Thats probably accurate with the battle being waged for the middle 20% that feel bad for the hard working farmhand or store clerk but then also become border hawks when they see this Gavin Newsom blunder or a Laken Riley occurs.

You’re probably right but this country knowingly voted for a convicted felon and accused pedophile, then watched him fill his cabinet with clueless airheads. Maybe, just maybe, it can tolerate a former lieutenant with actual brains who happens to be gay. Doubt it but who knows.

He said they’re using illegal immigrants, of which 8 were unaccompanied children who were trafficked into this country. Americans won’t bat an eye at the first part.. as you mention, it happens all over the place. They will, however, turn into border hawks when Democrats attack this Administration for going into a facility using trafficked children. Can we just admit this is pretty bad.. and the protesters/Newsom severely messed up by making it - now - a national story? As someone who holds the beliefs you do, this was a major misstep by Newsom for advancing your ideology wishes.

The feds haven't bothered enforcing for the most part, but if the DEA felt like it, they could shut down every grow operation from Anchorage to Bangor. 2
The Frankish Reich Posted July 11 Posted July 11 The larger picture: - WTF are we doing with cannabis. It is readily available - in a store - where most people live. Yet it remains federally controlled. Neither party is willing to get ahead of the issue and just federally legalize/regulate it. This system is absurd. - Growing lettuce, tomatoes, artichokes, cannabis in the USA depends on cheap labor. Cheap labor means immigrants. WTF are we doing in America where we both encourage and discourage immigrant labor. Neither party is willing to face reality. Broken government. Umm, yeah. 2

The cannabis laws are, and have always been silly to say the least. As far as migrant labor goes you're 100% correct, both parties have been talking out both sides of their faces for decades. Neither have clean hands.

Well yeah, at the federal level, but California issues cultivation licenses. I don’t think the Feds can outmuscle the states on this matter. I could be wrong, though. I’m only really familiar with the disaster that is NYSOCM. 27 minutes ago, SCBills said: He didn’t say it was illegal. But when Tom Scott is openly saying he’s going to give agents the green light to spill protestors’ blood, people are only going to double down. Is there evidence they were “trafficked” or were they simply unaccompanied, as the news has reported? The raid on the farm was also horribly planned and executed. Sloppy.
