The list is actually the top 100 albums but that is the top 10. Heres the bottom 15-

100. The Strokes, Is This It (RCA, 2001)

99. Afghan Whigs, Gentlemen (Elektra, 1993)

98. Cornershop, When I Was Born for the 7th Time (Luaka Bop, 1997)

97. Neutral Milk Hotel, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (Merge, 1998)

96. The Pogues, Rum, Sodomy & the Lash (Stiff/WEA, 1985)

95. Elastica, Elastica (DGC, 1995)

94. Slint, Spiderland (Touch and Go, 1991)

93. Pearl Jam, Ten (Epic, 1991)

92. Big Black, Atomizer (Homestead, 1986)

91. XTC, Skylarking (Geffen, 1986)

90. Sonic Youth, Sister (DGC, 1987)

89. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fever to Tell (Interscope, 2003)

88. Stereolab, Emperor Tomato Ketchup (Elektra, 1996)

87. Blur, Parklife (Food, 1994)

86. Meat Puppets, Up on the Sun (SST, 1985)

Anyone have numbers 11-85?

10. "Straight Outta Compton," N.W.A

I wonder if they know that Ice Cube (aka O'Shea Jackson), has a degree in architectural drafting. Also that Dr. Dre came from a middle class family. Easy E was really a drug dealer. So at least one person from the group has some real street credibility.

That's actually a pretty good list for the most part. OK Computer, It Takes a Nation, Sufer Rosa and 3 Feet High and Rising are all amazing albums...and Nevermind is pretty damn good too. As much as I love OK computer, I'd go with The Bends as Radiohead's best...and I'd place it right behind Jane's Addictinos "Nothing's Shocking" as my favorite album of the past 20 years (Surfer Rosa would most likely slide into the 3 spot).

Yeah those are some really "great albums".  I'm sure all of about 500 people own a few of them.

Yeah, because popularity is indicative of quality

Have fun listening to your Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears BF...

If that's the best , then Roger Daltrey was right when he sang "Rock is Dead...".

The Who, now that a great band with great albums. Not like the dregs of the last 20 years.

Great albums are a combination of things. Album sales, album quality, lasting impact. I'm sorry but none of the albums I've seen on the top of that list and the bottom have more than one of those qualities. I take that back, Nevermind does.

The presence of the rap **** discredits the list from the get go. They threw them in there for some sort of diversity I suppose. Personally, The Smiths "Queen is Dead" is the only good one. Pixies are good as well.

You do know it's 2005, right?

The Spin list is spot-on, if you ask me. Their criteria was albums that defined a new sound or an album that was totally relevant to the time it came out.

I don't like Prince, but you can't deny his impact on popular music.

Think about the first time you heard Public Enemy, or NWA, or PJ Harvey. I would disagree with putting "OK Computer" as #1 (you could argue that the first Dinosaur Jr. record was the first great indie rock release), but I don't begrudge it's inclusion on this list.

Anyone who has not bought nor listened to music in the past 20 years need not comment here. Also, as far as that "rap ****" goes, perhaps you should tune your FM stereo to the 97 rock or the local country station and break off the knob.

Nothing like a little closed-mindedness to broaden the old musical horizons, eh?

I own only two of the top ten...

1. "OK Computer," Radiohead

3. "Nevermind," Nirvana

and four of the bottom 10...

100. The Strokes, Is This It (RCA, 2001)

98. Cornershop, When I Was Born for the 7th Time (Luaka Bop, 1997)

93. Pearl Jam, Ten (Epic, 1991)

89. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fever to Tell (Interscope, 2003)

I guess I prefer the worst of the best.

To be fair, I do like the the Pixies, Smiths, and Public Enemy (better than Nirvana anyway) but don't own the albums listed.

Same here.  What's more, I've only heard of 4 of these bands.  Maybe it's because I'm in my late 30's?

Im' early 40's and only have heard of Nirvana, radiohead and prince. And no I don't own any of the albums but you would think someone in the late 30's or early 40's would own or at least heard of some of the albums from the last 20 years.
