You stuck on the bahamas, or are you open. In terms of the Atlantis, I have never been but I know several folks who have stayed and they have all loved it, but it is pricey

Yeah, I'd stay at Atlantis. Stay someplace developed as a resort. My wife and I stopped there as part of a honeymoon cruise. I was offered 'nose candy' about a dozen times, and the rest of what I saw was decrepit and dirty. Needless to say we got back on the cruise ship.

It was a stop on my cruise for my honeymoon last August...

It's ok....

Atlantis is ok but not worth the money if ya ask me unless you get a deal

The city part of Nassau is dirty but if you leave the city part the rest of Providence Island is nice...

I just actually booked another cruise there the first week of Decemer on Royal Caribbean for $289 PP for a 5 day 4 night cruise...

My brother just got back about a month ago, a few pointers he gave me if I ever went were...

First thing you do when you get there is rent a moped scooter to get around the island. This avoids taking the cab rides which are expensive. It's the same price no matter if you are going from one side of the island to another, or going 10 feet. If you do happen to take a cab, do not ask them to bring you to the island's best anything, restaurant, bar, ect. These cab drivers get cuts from different places if they drop people off there, even if the place sucks. Do your own research. He told me the best restaurant he found was some place on one of the beaches, don't remember the name though.

I was there last year but we stayed away from the Nassau/Paradise Island scene. Seemed to be a little too crowded for what we wanted. Check out Grand Bahama Island and the Freeport/Lucaya area for an alternative.

We stayed at the Westin resort and it was great.

Being a travel agent, I can give you some advice.

Atlantis is a awesome resort. You are probably though looking to spend about 300 per night and up depending on when you go.

Paradise Island is the best part of the Bahamas in my opinion. You can stay at Comfort Suites which is right down the street, and use full facilities at the Atlantis. You can get a room there for about 150 and up per night.

Downtown Nassau is horrible in my opinion. You will get hassled for weed, and at the straw market. They sell lots of junk there.

Some good buys for vacations in my opinion would be in the Playacar(Riviera Maya) are of Mexico, sometimes you can go All Inclusive(flight, meal, drinks, tips) there for a week for about 1000 per person, they have some nice resorts like Iberostar and Secrets.

Another Nice Island but a little more pricier would be Aruba. Divi is nice right on the beach all inclusive usually around 1500 per person for a week. People won't hassle you there either.

i have been to nassau and the atlantis is the only place i would consider staying at everything else in the area is very run down, there is however one other casino a few miles from the atlantis but i heard it is nearly as nice as the atlantis.

I have heard that the Bahamas are fun, if you are looking for a great vacation setting, but hanging around the all inclusive "americanized" resorts causes you to lose the local flavor. I have also heard that in the Bahamas, you do not really WANT to experience the local flavor! True?

I found that the west coast of Mexico, specifically Puerto Vallarta allows you have the best of both worlds. Stay in the resort, if all you want is a beach and sunshine, or get on a local bus and explore. We have taken busses to other towns and fended for ourselves quite easily, and I speak NO Spanish.

We even did our own "bar crawls" rather than taking the guided tour with all the crazy Americans (U.S. and Canadian Americans that is).

What is Cancun like?

Cancun is nice, but I prefer to stay in the Riviera Maya area about 40 miles away. Less hustle and bustle. The resorts in the Riviera Maya are are great and price is right. Plus there are ruins nearby, good snorkeling, dolphin swim, etc.

Puerto Vallarta is nice as well, but I book more to the Riviera Maya area because from the east coast it is closer. Resorts like Westin, Club Hotel Riu, Camino Real all beautiful hotels.

Also with some of the prices for Caribbean going up, you can do Hawaii for about the same rates.

I've been there a few times. I don't care much for Nassau or the Atlantis. I like the neighboring island of Eluethra. It's gorgeous and the small island at it's tip is really cool. It's called Harbor Island. I totally recommend going and staying there. It's a quieter place, more for relaxing and it has great hotels and restaurants.

Thanks for all the great suggestions...it's a graduation gift to my niece (next June). She got to pick (although I may attempt to talk her into Hawaii) where she wanted to go.

Jeez, what a gift. Can you adopt me?
