I'll admit I don't understand it as much as I should. My next door neighbor has Autism but highly functioning. I may hire him to be my roadie for gigs because I have a S ton of equipment. He's eager to help out.

When you gonna break it too him there's no pot and groupies involved?  Better to be wise and wait till after he moves the ***** load of equipment you have. 😏

I was tested under DSM 4 rules, as having OCD and Social Anxiety.  I'm sure under DSM 5 they'd label me with ASD.

Interesting, years back I got the social anxiety diagnosis as well when I first saw a doctor.

It wasn't until I was advised to have a thorough screening done for autism is when it was picked up.  I had to get interviewed as well as my parents.  I had to fill out multiple questionnaires as well.  The whole thing was unpleasant but necessary.  That's why I indicated it's better to have a through check done at a specialist in the original post

high functioning

means you are mentally capable of doing anything that they would want.

just in your own way.

People may experience:

Behavioral: aggression, compulsive behavior, fidgeting, impulsivity, repetitive movements, social isolation, or persistent repetition of words or actions

Mood: anxiety, or apprehension,

not so much — anger. You don’t want to make us angry 😤. 😝

Also common: depression,

intense interest in a limited number of things,

The Buffalo Bills.

learning disability,

ergo college dropout

Being misunderstood

When it comes to my equipment, I have a very particular and set way of unpacking and packing. I also have a system for loading my car with my gear.

Reading competition

Putting words on paper 📝

it’s like dyslexia but with words

The words make sense to me.

My wife owns a literacy center that specializes in teaching kids and adults that fit the Dyslexia profile how to read. I just read her this and she said that Autism is the opposite of Dyslexia. According to the book "The Dyslexia Advantage", a group of cells called the "minicolums" which are a vertical arrangement of cells from the cortex of the brain, In dyslexic people, the minicolums are spaced widely apart. In Autistic people, they are spaced closely together.

For years it was believed that you couldn't be both Autistic and Dyslexic at the same time. It was only recently that that has been proved to be false.
