Was he too expensive? 329345[/snapback] He also was growing increasingly unpopular with the fans...the Bills were coming off a moderatley successful stretch (acutally very successful, given the history of the Bills from 1967 to 1979) and it looked like Fergy had taken the team as far as he could...he was getting up there, to be sure. They also had drafted Jim Kelly, and were hopeful of prying him away from the USFL. Kelly, at the time, was pretty vocal about not wanting to play in Buffalo, and I seem to remember him making some dispariging remark about Ferguson, after attending a post draft mini-camp. It was sort of like Bledsoe's percieved slap at JP Losman, you remember, "I don't see myself as a back-up in this leauge, particularly not Joe Ferguson." God those were dark days. An entire generation of fans has grown up since then, so they're excused, but I have no patience for people my age and older who didn't become Bills fans until AFTER those dark days had passed. Everyone in the dorm new I was his biggest fan, to the extent that i was nicknamed "Fergy". I taped a black sash across my door until the end of the semester. I remember being extatic for him the year he had a big game in Detroit on Thanksgiving. I think he might have actually won one of those stupid John Madden Turkey Drumstick awards.
