Thank you for your contribution to the music industry.

That song was one of the most memorable things in 'Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid' and won an Oscar for best original song. He had many hits in the '70s that a lot of people would know or recognize, including a few that have been mentioned in this thread. Others were 'Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song' and 'I Just Can't Help Believing'. The band 'Blue Swede' also did a memorable cover of his 'Hooked On a Feeling'.

RIP, BJ...and thanks for the childhood memories.

I heard an interview with Thomas last year or so about that song.

He said that in order to get the nod to do it, Bacharach and David told him to sing it without any "styling" input.

Just do the song, or we'll get somebody else.

Wasn't that Blue Suede? or just maybe a cover?

Yes. See what I posted above. Blue Swede covered it in 1974 with the 'ooga chaka' hook. It briefly hit #1 but stayed on the charts for quite a while. 'Guardians of The Galaxy' brought the Blue Swede version back into the public conscience again.
