why is NY not fully open?

The reason NYS is not fully open is the same reason I had the following post deleted and received a message about it not being on topic in the OTW Covid Humor thread. Politics and panic porn. TDS and fear have crippled this country.

This was my post.

33700 dead in New York state is one 5th of all deaths, and a 3rd of them were in nursing homes that cuomo made take positive cases. cuomo should be in jail

Probably more than that were nursing home residents.  Per Andy Cuomo's directive, in late April NYS stopped counting nursing home resident deaths as nursing home deaths if the resident died elsewhere from/with COVID-19.  That nearly certainly has led to an undercounting since the directive took effect.

I'm tired of hearing how badly Trump has handled this, and even seeing on the news how Europe did so much better I figured it was high time for a comparison.

These numbers are current on the Worldmeter site as of 8/5 around 10am Eastern. I grabbed Western Europe nations to try and get close to our own population, without appearing to pick and chose.

The numbers are really close to each other, with the US having a few more deaths however look at Germany who has done outstanding through this by comparison not only to us, but literally everyone else. Like us, their cases still appear to be going up, but deaths are going down. But if you take into account Cuomo incompetence on our side, this more than makes up for the anomaly so far in Germany

NATION COVID DEATHS POPULATION
UK 46,299 67,920,084
France 30,296 65,287,519
Germany 9,240 83,809,800

The death cult mourns this good news

I don't think anyone mourns good news except people who get paid to write headlines at CNN/FOX. Bad news always sells, ever since Irv Weinstein was leading Eyewitness News with coverage of the .22 caliber killer in the 70s.

Italy, NY Metro, Spain all got hit early when our treatments were often exactly wrong. Germany, Florida, many other places have more comparable statistics and are predictive of trends for places that haven't yet been hit.

We will level out as a country in the coming weeks and then have a couple potential inflection points: schools opening and winter. Neither of those, I would think, will cause a spike. But we might see some rises in cases from them.

I realize the Left lost its mind in November 2016, but how in the world is the recent southern surge of a contagious virus Trump’s fault? Is the current tropical storm Trump’s fault? We had a wildfire in Southern California last week. Was that Trump’s fault?

I just read a leftist post in the Schools thread claiming Trump is responsible for a second-grader getting the virus in an Atlanta school.

Trump forced that school to open against the school's wishes, and then he drove to the girl's house to pick her up, drove her to school, removed her mask and pushed her into a crowded school.

And then he left the school to play a round of golf.

True story.

Unhinged doesn't even work to describe them any more.

Since Libs have now switched over to concern about cases over deaths, I added them to the chart along with deaths per case, and deaths per population.

Notice the death rate per case is a lot lower for us, while per population about the same.

Had Trump just did his job, there would be fewer deaths instead we get, "It is what it is"

Trump says that's because we do more testing. More testing equals lower per test death. :)

Yes, but in every other category, even given the Germany anomaly and the Cuomo bungle are pretty even.

Great work. While Europe has only 28% of the total cases that we have they have tested 71% of the amount of people that we have tested. Deaths and population are basically the same. Europe has a much higher death rate per discovered cases. It would seem that there is an inconsistency in the testing parameters themselves. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that Europe is using test kits from China that are unreliable.

NYC couldn't even align its response between its Health and the Hospitals departments, but it's surely the Federal government's fault.

What should he have done?

When (dates please) should he have done it?

And why? (what info was available to make the decision)

If only more states followed the Cuomo and the NYC Death March, we wouldn't be in this situation!

You don’t think he made a terrible mistake in telling people it would all be gone in April? This is a pandemic and he passed along harmful, deadly misinformation that people like you believed. Criminal.

Still we we don’t have a national strategy for confronting this. Sad.
