Here we go again - McDermott's choice of Peterman defines his coaching tenure

I don't really think he's "picking" Peterman in this case. Everybody else is hurt.

I'm not going to excuse him for picking him last year over Tyrod, or week 1 over Josh and AJ.

But in this case, who else was he supposed to pick?

He has to pick Peterman now but he should have been cut after week 1

You know you are going to read a fire post when it starts with "I don't know anything about football, but I watch the game with my own two eyes"

a/k/a

"I don't know what I'm talking about but that isn't going to stop me from talking about it"

Similar to, "I know science tells me the earth is round, but thats not what my own two eyes tell me!"

Gotta love the internet.

It is pretty darn obvious when you watch other teams on Offense and how they line up, the schemes and the success, that the Bills are doing plenty wrong.  Don't need to have been in a closet watching game film, with my eyelids forced open ala Clockwork Orange for days on end to figure it out.

I've watched more then enough football for 45 years to make an educated assumption that McClappy doesn't know what he is doing on the Offensive side in 2018.......

most teams build off of the playoffs...we tore it down and back to the bottom of the league

This^.

Most teams when they hire New management want to see progress every year. Not complete regression.

I don’t think anyone expected the Bills to make the plyoffs this year as last year was a bit of a fluke, but no one expected them to look this bad.

Peterman has to play.   It's not a "choice".  Ridiculous thread.   HIs benching after week one was warranted, but they clearly felt Peterman was a better backup option than anyone else out there.  I believe they know now that he's not, but hindsight is always 20/20 and coaches and GMs don't get the benefit of hindsight.

That was the point......  Peterman never should have been in camp competing for the starting position.  It was to be Allen & a veteran back-up with NFL experience.  Bridgewater is the perfect example.  He was the best Jets QB in pre-season and they shipped him out to avoid any issues and he is AN NFL CALIBER QB.

The plan was clearly to tear down the offense and rebuild it. Boy did they ever tear this offense down. The teardown was highly successful. Now the reality is setting in that the rebuild is going to take longer than they thought. As much as I'm pulling for Peterman to look good against the Bears, he's not going to be a part of the rebuild. Good pre-season QB, disaster in the regular season. The way McD and Beane handled the QB situation was both irresponsible and incompetent. That just made matters worse, and there's nothing the OC can do to fix this mess but tailor his system to get the most out of what little talent he has to work with. Good luck with NP, we're stuck with him now.

He should have been cut after the ravens game. He shouldn’t have even been a choice to play for

this team again

Making a lot of assumptions about a guy who has identified his franchise QB (who hasn't meaningfully played yet) and has a plan for building around him.  I think its much more obvious that in this stage of his process the offense is only at the ground floor.

And the majority knew last year......

Peterman is the choice right now.  IMO they should have cut him weeks ago and brought in someone more capable behind Anderson when he was playing.

Peterman is not a NFL caliber QB. He's not a back up caliber QB.  He's a nice guy who the team feels for but just can't hack it.

Yep. They made that bed, now them and the entire offense has to lay in it. Too bad they couldn't make a deal with KC for Alex Smith to come here and start the season so Allen could spend his rookie season learning behind a proven vet instead of a guy they yanked off the couch at the last minute, and knocked back down to the couch.

They say we're young and we don't know
We won't find out until we grow
Well I don't know if all that's true
'Cause you got me, and baby I got you
Babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
They say our love won't pay the rent
Before it's earned, our money's all been spent
I guess that's so, we don't have a plot
But at least I'm sure of all the things we got
Babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got flowers in the spring
I got you to wear my ring
And when I'm sad, you're a clown
And if I get scared, you're always around
Don't let them say your hair's too long
'Cause I don't care, with you I can't go wrong
Then put your little hand in mine
There ain't no hill or mountain we can't climb
Babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you to hold my hand
I got you to understand
I got you to walk with me
I got you to talk with me
I got you to kiss goodnight
I got you to hold me tight
I got you, I won't let go
I got you to love me so
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe

This is all so absurd.  This year was never about winning.  They traded their starting QB; drafted a QB that was never going to be ready to start; and signed a back up QB to a $5 million deal.  Why anyone would discuss the offense in any other context than the development of Allen is beyond me.

Tired of hearing this excuse....if it was never about winning then they are in the wrong business.....

Oh, yeah, who can believe he isn't playing Terrelle Pryor at QB instead.

Yeah, yeah, he defines his legacy with that choice and his choice of Bojorquez. And his choice of Humber as his original ILB. Oh, yeah, all of these totally define a tenure that is in all likelihood very very far from completion.

Totally.

Easy for you to say.  There was nobody to backup Andersen.  You can't just sign someone off the street and suit them up.  They need time to learn the offense.  This isn't fantasy football.  Peterman will be gone soon enough, but right now he's the only option.

I get that you're tired of it. But it's still true.

You edited the quote. He said, "this year was never about winning." Not that winning isn't the most important thing.

It doesn't show you're in the wrong business to value long-term consistent winning over the short-term, one season's worth of winning.
