And why not toss his thoughts into another one of the dozen threads started.  Some people like to start threads vs contribute to others due to the LAMP theory.

Sir, I don't have time to read all the topics before I share a thought.  Sorry.  I wasn't going to jump in till I heard the radio guy on my way home from dropping my kid at school.  I think it shows that we stuck out like a sore thumb yesterday.  Although on second thought, the radio guy is originally from Baltimore, so it's likely he watched that game on NFL Sunday ticket.

Please stop.    The  players that came into the AFL in the early 60's were NFL cuts or old men, undrafted college players, and CFL players looking for another shot.  The majority of the CFL's best players were American players that could not make the NFL, many of them played in the early AFL.   Cookie Gilchrest, one of the best Bills players in the 60's played in the CFL.

It was 1961.  The Bills were one year old and they sent their scrubby team to play a preseason under Canadian league rules .. big field, 3 downs, etc.   Never mind the Canadians league starts games months earlier than the AFL and NFL did.   The Bills were not prepared and they were not very good that day.  They were two years away from a Power House team.

This has nothing to do with what we saw in Baltimore yesterday.

The Bills are not jinxed.  McDermott is not horrible.  He was totally outcoached and unprepared for the season opener, no doubt about that.  McDermnott and Beane are learning as they go. It sucks but it is true.

He and Beane started the season with a mess at QB, OL and WR.  They need to own that.   They both lack experience at their jobs and we are seeing it right now.  To think that McCarron, Peterman and Allen was a good group to go to camp with was a crazy notion all along.  There were lots of veteran QB in the free agent mix and this is what we got to start training camp.

I don't necessarily have a problem with those 3 quarterbacks.  What I do have a problem with is the offensive line and the total lack of receivers.  They had the entire offseason to get somebody in there who can get open and catch a pass.  They thought they had fixed the OL with signings of mediocre players.  Good coaching and schemes can overcome a slight lack of talent on the line, but they didn't have either of those yesterday.

He is right.. McDermott is a lousy head coach.  I’m trying to find or think about a good decision he’s made coaching in a game yet

I mean, he must have made at least ONE good decision last year, I recall us playing in a game after the regular season wrapped up...

TC, I'm with ya though - seen enough of Peter, man, let's just get the Josh Allen experiment going!! ?

Yes, an anvil fell on all of our heads yesterday.

I'm not going to be like all the other fans with knee jerk reactions and say what a horrible coach McDermott is, and how Brandon Beane has done nothing to help the team. I admit I was just as shocked and disgusted with yesterday's game like everyone else. I knew it would be a tough season, but I was not expecting our offense to not get a first down in the first half of the game either.

As far as the offense goes it's both the QB & the O-Line. Nate Peterman is not a starting QB in the NFL, I have been stressing this since we drafted him. I hated the pick, even though it was a 5th round choice. I don't wish him ill will, and I was willing to be fair and give him a chance, but I've seen enough. Peterman at best is a back-up, and I might be generous with that statement.

Josh Allen must become the starter now. I saw enough of him yesterday to accept that. Although I am terrified that he could go through the same problems as David Carr did. This O-Line could get him killed.

Speaking of the O-Line, it is a disaster, and it's all on the interior. John Miller just doesn't have it, Vlad Ducasse has never had it, and Ryan Groy is NOT a Center. The Ravens did not have to blitz in order to get pressure on the QB. And every time we ran the ball, especially on the left side, there was nothing. These 3 spots on the line have to be changed immediately. Dion Dawkins has very good potential and Jordan Mills is adequate enough to get through the season. That's it.

As for McDermott & Beane, calm down. They made mistakes, let them work it out, because I believe they will. I don't want to hear about Tyrod Taylor or Ryan Fitzpatrick, or even AJ McCarron. We need to deal with what we have now. So let's see what our next move is.

GO BILLS!!!

Good post but lets also throw in the poor play of the WR's.   I actually think our WR talent is worse than that of the OL.

I saw lots of replays of covered receivers.  Lots of receivers jammed at the line in man coverage in the rain causing Peterman to not even have a quick outlet pass.   No adjustments made by the coaches either.  Even when Peterman and Allen had time to throw there was usually no one open.

The coaching staff has to do better.

Same reaction here.  Even the SB blowouts didn’t feel so one-sided.

I’ve been all in on “the process,” but my faith was shaken mightily yesterday.  For the first time, I felt like maybe Bean and McDermott don’t know what they’re doing, and basically have dismantled our team with no good plan.

I’m still trying to remain optimistic.  It was just one game, and Murphy’s law was clearly in effect.  But it’s tough to stay positive.

I'm usually one of the most optimistic fans around. But I don't know how anyone thought this season would be good. It was obvious going in we'd have a top 5 pick and now it's looking like #1 or #2 overall. There were plenty of clues along the way. We waited until the end of free agency to sign the last remaining QB. We have $50 million in dead cap. We drafted a raw QB and raw MLB with our top 2 picks. We lost our two best O-linemen to retirement. Now yesterday was worse than I expected but that's fine. I'd rather have #1 overall than #5 overall. This is the tank season.

Agreed. I hadn't come into a season this low since 2010. Holes all over, at best maybe 6 wins which feels every more foolish now, an offense that lacks any identity, and overall just a team that is bridging this year so in 2019 they can make the moves they want.

What makes things sooo much harder is the fact they weren't competitive at all and for a quite a few other games won't be. That's really hard on the eyes as opposed to competitive closer losses.

Can't wait to see some A22 of this POS game - at least to see if the WRs were indeed as covered as they appeared to be when you saw them on TV.  Hard for a QB to throw to anyone when there is pressure is his face in 1 second and all of the WRs are covered / not that good...

I was driving to the Bills Backer's place in St. Louis, telling myself this would be a good game.  Our team was improved over last year.  Nate looked great in preseason.  He's gonna have a solid day.  Our defense was improved.  Star would be a stud.  We'll play a good game.

It only took one play to know that I was delusional, and that all these months of tracking the team, getting on this page to keep up with the news, watching youtube videos of our new guys, reading all the propaganda....drinking the koolaid, as they say.

This was the worst game I've ever seen.  And I've been watching this team since the mid-60's.  To come into a season with expectations of at least a good, competitive team and...well, you saw it.  This team is a mess.

I was just listening to St. Louis sports radio, and the guy was ready to discuss Mizzou's win over Wyoming.....and he got sidetracked.  He was talking about Josh Allen..."what was he the 6th, 7th pick?  Why isn't he playing.....why is this McDermott guy obsessed with Nate Peterman?  Trade Tyrod Taylor!  Get AJ McCarron.....trade him too.....get Josh Allen....put him on the bench!  What has Peterman ever done?  This guy is a lousy coach.....sorry I lost focus there."  Even the St. Louis guys, who don't have a team and don't care about the Bills, know that Peterman should never trot on the field again.

It's hard being a Bills fan.

Tom, the national media does not follow the Bills very closely as you know.  McDermott is not a lousy coach but he is still learning.  It is becoming more obvious that he has blind spots and that some games he gets completely outcoached.  There were at least 3 games last year that we were not prepared to play.   He also has some solid leadership strengths and overall he did a great job getting us to 9-7 last year.

Brandon Beane has full responsibility for who we brought to camp.  Most casual observers could see the possible train wreck at QB, OL, and WR.

Yes, our WR unit is not good enough either.

Although I think that can be tweaked with maybe another addition of one player, whereas on the O-Line we have 3 positions that have to be taken care of. That's why I see the O-Line as more of a problem than WR.

Having said that, your point is very clear.
