I've been hearing the music from this song in a couple of commercials lately, which got me to looking it up on YT.

I had forgotten how much I liked this video when it originally came out.

I'd bet if you walked down the street like he does in the video in the present, you probably would end up getting shot by some crazy person.🙁

Oh well......to less crazier times!

I love the song and the album "Urban Hymns" is superb. An interesting titbit about Bitter Sweet Symphony:

"Bitter Sweet Symphony" is based on a sample from a 1965 version of the Rolling Stones song "The Last Time" by the Andrew Oldham Orchestra. The Verve added strings, guitar, percussion and vocals. They obtained rights to use the "Last Time" sample from the copyright holder, Decca Records, but were denied permission from the Rolling Stones' former manager, Allen Klein. Following a lawsuit, The Verve relinquished all royalties and the Rolling Stones members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were added to the songwriting credits. In 2019, ten years after Klein's death, Jagger, Richards, and Klein's son ceded the rights to The Verve songwriter Richard Ashcroft.

I discovered this a couple of months ago... what a great track! As Jim Croce did a year earlier, Bill Chase died in a plane crash in 1974.

"X" were always known as LA punk band, but "The Have Nots" is a straight forward rocker with witty lyrics.

And here is one of the writers of the song, John Doe, at age 64.

You've gotta check out this album... actually provably from a... gasp... CD

Front-to-back a beautiful era of X:

For me, Three Dog Night were always too much pop and not enough rock. Thus, I started to think of more challenging song titles than "Never Been To Spain", such as "Never Been To Uruguay" or "Never Been To Uzbekistan". However, upon listening to the song I liked the lyrics and the music. Well done!!

It seems at times I missed a lot of what the 90's rock scene produced. This was a radio station Hit but I never really knew that much about the band beyond Rob Thomas and Smooth with Carlos Santana.
