CJ Spiller was a good football player for the Bills. This is the dumbest thread ever. And Mike Williams was a no-brainer pick, can't hold that one against the Bills. I hold Torell Troup and TJ Graham against the Bills.

I hated the spiller pick mainly because we had Lynch and Jackson.. Spiller was a great Kickoff returner. that's about it.

CJ Spiller wasn't even close to the biggest bust. He scored touchdowns, had some big runs, and flashed big potential.

Maybin and McCargo weren't even good enough to be on the field, ever. Maybin had zero career sacks with the Bills and was so tiny the other team just ran at him every time he was on the field.

Mike Williams was the 4th OVERALL pick and couldnt even hold down a starting guard role. Probably have to go with him just because he was such a high pick.

Losman and Manuel set us back, but at least they could hold down a backup job. Honorable mention goes to Erick Flowers and Reuben Grant. That's just recent guys.

agreed. CJ Spiller had great game in college and suited what Gailey wanted to accomplish with the offense. Could have had a longer career if he was more durable and had offensive coordinators who knew how to use him.

A strong case could be made for Williams over Maybin based on the definition of the word "bust". Everyone viewed Mike Williams as a future all pro type guy who would be a soild player for many years. Williams was supposed to be great. He turned out to be the exact opposite. On the other hand Aaron Maybin was not viewed as a can't miss prospect by the majority of other teams. He was another guy who we reached for. Drafting Maybin was a mistake at the time, drafting Williams was only a mistake in hindsight. Based on this criteria Williams was the bigger bust. Based solely on production Maybin would be the biggest bust. Edited by DriveFor1Outta5

And yet you posted... Thanks Bud!

I understand where you're coming from with the 'we already had Jackson and Lynch' take but Spiller was a dynamic player coming out of college and he produced for us. To suggest that a guy who once ran for over 1,200 yards while averaging 6 yards a carry is the worst first round pick in the 57 year history of a franchise is beyond preposterous. And another thing, new rule, young fans (I am 38 and only claim to go back to the '85 season) cannot throw around claims like "worst or best in Bills history" when they only go back to like Drew Bledsoe as the Bills QB.

I feel ya Metz, that's why I am relying on veteran Bills fans and doing a little research as I go. It's nice gaining some knowledge from the posters here. Appreciate the insight and your opinions guys!

Maybin or Tom Cousineau

Has to be one of these two

With the draft coming up I was thinking about the number of terrible first round picks we have made in the past. A lot of the members here may eclipse my memory of this teams drafting woes as I started following the Bills during the Super Bowl years as a young lad and am sure I missed some disappointing picks in the past. That being said I'd love to know the opinions of this informed board. Here we go...

Worst 1st round pick for me: CJ Spiller

An enormous bust outside of his 1 year with Chan running the show. This was a pick we did not need to make and definitely jumped the gun when making this decision. During this time we had Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson and Joique Bell filter through our RB corps. Marshawn was misbehaving and shown the door, then promptly made us look like idiots when the Seahawks surprised everyone beating the Saints while Beast Mode was showered in skittles after an indestructible run. Joique Bell landed with the Lions and became their #1 RB over time, obviously not on the level of Marshawn talent wise but made a significant positive impact on their team. And Fred Jackson who essentially saved our asses when's CJ showed his inability to be a true workhorse back.

CJ Spiller was a huge disappointment and a bad pick when we had a bevy of talent with the team already.

Who's your bugaboo, your oopsies, the player picked in the first that made you throw up in your mouth a bit?

Mods, if this has been discussed then by all means close the thread.

Spiller cannot possibly be the answer; he had a 1,000-yard season.

Many others were utterly useless
