February Movies: LEGO Batman, Great Wall, & Fist Fight

For the second year in a row I have left out the month of January movies to report on. Mostly because January is the worst month for movies, as that is when studios release their trash. For those of you who were interested in seeing "Underworld: Blood Wars", "xXx 3", "Monster Trucks", "Sleepless", "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter", "A Dog's Purpose", & "Split". I apologize. Although "Split" did receive good reviews, and a healthy draw at the box office. Which could mean good news for director M.Night Shyamalan.

With that aside we are now in the month of February, which is not as bad a month for movies as January, but is still considered to have plenty of dreck. Especially with it's awful Valentine's Day movies. However, thanks to films like "The LEGO Movie" & "Deadpool", studios have found that the month of February can produce box office hits. The former movie is now capitalizing on it's success this year, with it's first spinoff movie.

In "A Cure For Wellness", An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company's CEO from an idyllic but mysterious "wellness center" at a remote location in the Swiss Alps but soon suspects that the spa's miraculous treatments are not what they seem. "The Great Wall" looks like the dumbest thing to hit film since "10,000 BC." A weird mix of "The Last Samurai" meets "Lord Of The Rings" meets "The Mist" meets some mushroom-induced schizophrenic hallucination. The only reason I will see that movie precisely zero times is because I can't see it less than zero times. I preemptively rate this movie five out of five penguins.

Sad, really. I remember when I was that age, if my parents couldn't find a sitter, they just locked us in a closet and went out...

Hemingway would leave his infant with his cat, which I always found hilarious.

It was wrong to take a baby to a cafe in the winter though; even a baby that never cried and watched everything that happened and was never bored. There were no baby-sitters then and Bumby would stay happy in his tall cage bed with his big, loving cat named F. Puss. There were people who said that it was dangerous to leave a cat with a baby. The most ignorant and prejudiced said the cat would suck a baby’s breath and kill him. Others said that a cat would lie on a baby and the cat’s weight would smother him. F. Puss lay beside Bumby in the tall cage bed and watched the door with his big yellow eyes, and would let no one come near him while we were out…There was no need for baby-sitters. F. Puss was the babysitter.

John Wick is the best role of his career. He fits that character.

The Wick movies are interesting. The Russian mobsters are overdone villains at this point IMO, but the little plot devices and the "world" the movies have made from the hotel to the various outfitters is a neat touch.

I applaud Reeves because he does a serious amount of weapons training to make it legit. He'd probably win a 3-gun competition with little problem.
