Dray day!

I hate blocking TEs. They are like kickoff specialists. Get a guy who can catch and block. The Pats always can find multiple guys like that. Why can't we?

he can catch, why do think he cant catch? OLeary caught a nice ball last year. he can catch.

He has 56 catches and 3 tds in 6 years. He is no threat at all. I think next to qb, the Bills have neglected the TE position the most. TEs are game changers and a Qbs best friend, especially in the red zone.

And I love O'Leary. I hope he really steps up this year but to say I was disappointed in him this year is a major understatement.

He doesn't need to be a "threat" Biscuit. he just need to catch the ball when thrown.

Not everyone can be Clay. I realize blocking will be his forte but if catches just a couple balls team need to worry about his release after the chip.

don't take much. too keep teams honest

No one worried about Mulligan catching the ball : (

I get the point 3rd but the Pats have the meathead Gronk, just got Bennett, and had the murderer. We get Mulligan and Dray. We could do better. Double threats at the position would really help our qb and red zone offense.

They do not have Sammy my friend. just a different set of match ups.

Bills grind and go deep. Brady throws quick and short and a bazillion times

Yeah but it took them 10 years under Belichick to get Gronk. And Gronk was only available to them because he missed his senior season with a back injury, which scared off other teams, otherwise he'd have been a 1st rounder.

As for Dray, you'd need to see how many times he was targeted in the passing game.

Point taken. Personally, I like doing what successful teams do. 2 TEs open up the run game and if you have 2 good TEs, it can be a matchup nightmare in the passing game.

Taylor has a weakness across the middle of the field. Guess what might help that? A 6'5" 250 lbs TE.

For the record, I love Hunter Henry of Arkansas. That would give this offense some great versatily. Jmo.

There's probably a reason why he was targeted so little. And it's not about Dray. He's fine. And I'm very glad we got Clay and drafted O'Leary.

But even before Gronk, the Pats always were loading up on TEs. They spent 1st on Graham and Watson. It's such a valuable position and helps your offense so much. It's crazy teams don't see how successful NE is and try to copy it.

I wonder how many 2 and 3 TE sets Roman actually ran last year. I know he ran a bunch of bunch sets and he likes to move them pre snap with motion. But i rarely take notice of each receiver.

Think about Roman in SF. He had Vernon Davis and Delani Walker, who was a top 5 TE this year.

I see Dray as mostly a blocking TE, but I don't think he would be a non-factor in the passing game. Mulligan is.

And true, BB has been trying to find a good TE since his Cleveland days (I remember him blowing a gasket on draft day when the Jets took Kyle Brady). But Watson and Graham weren't very good, which shows it's not easy finding a dominant one like Gronk.

I see this as good depth insurance. Worst case scenario we have a big blocker in the redzone and someone who shows he can catch when the defense forgets about him (Also knows G-Ro system so he might be more sneaky now).

I like the idea of hunter henry too. What round has he been forecasted to be picked? If we pick him up and wins the second TE position then I would be happy to cut the Dray and Shady rap meme.

Until I have at least the meme and a blocking TE. Its the offseason.

How can we pull and sweep all game if we have two TEs streaking up the middle?

I love guys who are just as good receivers as blockers. I think he could be a difference maker.

Good post. Hunter seems to be the number 1 TE across the board and I've seen late 1st or 2nd. He could be there for us and he would help with RT.

Just read about him and seems like a good Roman fit. I don't think we'll reach for him this year because of our defensive needs. Since TE's are not hot commodities and Roman needs so many, I think I would like us to spend a mid/late round draft pick on TE until we have a #2 that we can use in the redzone.

If every team could throw the ball 60 times a game effectively, they would.

Brady/Edleman/Gronk are an unorthodox trio, to say the least.

I think you're being hasty calling it a "weakness." Roman calls a risk-aversed, QB friendly offense. At least he has. But he's also always had developmental guys.

One of the following his true:

  1. Taylor is unable to go over the middle
  2. Taylor is unwilling to go over the middle
  3. Roman doesn't run routes over the middle.

I'm not so bold as to sign off on a single one of these (sound familiar, Rex haters?).

Why? Because:

  1. Taylor is a running threat, so teams station a guy in the short center field to spy him.
  2. When they mixed/opened it up in week 17 for Sammy, they did A LOT of stuff over the middle with success.
  3. When he did go over the middle in other times (think game-winning strike to Clay (x 2 (he dropped one of them)) against Houston, he HAS been successful

Given these factors, I think it's wrong to say TT "can't" go over the middle. Or is "weak" over the middle.
