Joe Flacco Signs a Three Year Extension with the Ravens

Recommended Posts

@RapSheet

The #Ravens and Joe Flacco created his first deal with the intention of re-doing it this year, given the $28.5M cap number. That'll go down.

Full details aren't yet available on Joe Flacco's contract extension, but I'm told Flacco got a $40M signing bonus. Not bad.

Joe Flacco's agent Joe Linta arrived at #Ravens facility at 11:03 am today, meeting with VP Pat Moriarty now. Flacco will join them to sign.

@Ravens

The Ravens will hold a 2 p.m. press conference today with GM Ozzie Newsome, HC John Harbaugh and QB Joe Flacco.

So, with signing bonuses, do they literally get handed a check for that amount? Or paid in installments over a period of time?

Could very well be that income tax considerations help to determine that. I'll leave that up to someone with the appropriate expertise to comment on that.

Love it! :lol:

Cian Fahey from Presnapreads.com is slamming this on his timeline, referencing TT

@cianfahey

Gotdamn hilarious.

At the time the Ravens signed that deal it was pushed as "You have to" yet everyone knew it was going to be horrible for them.

--@Cianaf i don't disagree but not like anyone better is walking in the door anytime soon

@cianfahey

Someone better just walked out the door last season though.

Early career Flacco was an okay starter. Recent Flacco has been a mess. He just gave up on his mechanics altogether.

Hmmm? Ozzie or Cian Fahey? Tough call. :lol:

What a time to be an NFL quarterback. In the span of a day, Kirk Cousins, Sam Bradford and Joe Flacco basically net a combined $86 million guaranteed for 2016. So Andrew Luck, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brock Osweiler and Aaron Rodgers, come on down. Get in line. You won't wait long.

If there are fans out there who think TT is better than Flacco at this point, they are completely out of their minds. Flacco has his flaws but those are the type of Qbs who consistently win.

Flacco is one of the most criminally underrated Quarterbacks in the league in my mind. I love Ozzie but at some point soon someone is going to have to accept that his attempt at retooling that defense has been a failure.

Here is a list of the defensive players since 2010 that they have spent 1st round picks on:

2010

2nd round (they traded back out of the first ) - Sergio Kindle DE - released halfway through his third year having hardly played and has been out of the NFL ever since

2nd round - Terrence Cody DT - flashed some promise as a starter in his second year and went downhill afterwards. Released last year having spent the previous 2 seasons as a backup. Out of the NFL.

2011

1st round - Jimmy Smith CB - still on the roster has signed an extension but is more a solid #2 corner than a #1 guy.

2012

2nd round (repeated the trick of trading back out of the 1st) - Courtney Upshaw LB - been a middle of the road starterand role player for most of his 4 years now likely to become a FA.

2013

1st round - Matt Elam S - Was disappointing as a starter as a rookie, benched near the end of year 2 and spent year 3 on IR.

2nd round - Arthur Brown ILB - has not started a single game in 3 years and is now little more than a special teams player.

2014

1st round - CJ Mosley ILB - Exception that proves the rule... started all 32 games, exceptional as a rookie solid among chaos around him in year 2.

2nd round - Timmy Jernigan DE - Been ok as a backup end on a rotational basis his first two years.

2015

Went offense in 1st and 2nd round.

That is a LOT of wasted resource on defense in the last 6 drafts. 66% of their 1st and 2nd round picks in the last 6 drafts on defense.... which has given them two starters, a rotational end, a special teamer at best, and a possible bust who is on IR. The other knock on of this is the fact that they have had limited resources to dedicate to offense. That is BAD drafting.

Joe Flacco is the least of the problems on that team.

@GunnerBill -- and they have no offensive weapons either!

Agree that Flacco takes too much crap; he's a winner and the Ravens are fortunate they don't have to go looking for a QB. But their roster is not stellar.

Yep... cos they have spent all their time drafting average to bad defensive players! I like the TE they took in the second last year, maybe he becomes something and obviously the receiver the 1st round pick missed the whole season.

But they have drafted badly basically since the Flacco pick.... so he won with the solid but old roster he came on to. He is going to find it hard to keep this team afloat the more those guys fade away.

Good post. I think their defense just got old really fast and the Suggs injury killed them (though he is getting old and it should be expect). When Smith went down, they had a bottom 3 receiving core.
