REPORT FROM THE BLUE ZONES:

Murder rates already soaring in six cities.

“Jacksonville, New Orleans, Minneapolis, the Las Vegas area, Washington, D.C. and Nashville all had more homicides or murders to start 2023 than during the same time last year.”

And last year wasn’t great. But wait, there’s a solution: “Experts advocated for reducing violent crime through strategic investments in community resources.”

Or, you know, put the violent criminals in jail and keep them there. Just spitballing here.

Or you know, actually try to prevent violent crime instead of enabling it and then acting surprised and trying to score political points over people losing their lives. Just spitballing here.

Update:

Officials in Los Angeles County held a press conference at 8:30 AM local time to provide updates on the investigation into a mass shooting in Monterey Park that left 10 dead and 10 wounded. As reported, the shooting took place at a dance hall shortly after the first day of the community’s Lunar New Year festival ended.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna stated that investigators have received different descriptions of the perpetrator, preventing them from providing a specific description, but that the suspect is a “male Asian” with a probable age range of 30 to 50.

Witnesses have given differing descriptions of the type of gun used, Luna said, but investigators “don’t believe it was an assault rifle at this time.” Luna would not disclose the caliber of the murder weapon due to the ongoing investigation.

Asian Man Suspected in Monterey Park Mass Shooting Found Dead in White Van

An Asian man suspected in the mass shooting in Monterey Park, Calif., that killed 10 was surrounded by police in Torrance, about 22 miles from Alhambra, where there was another incident that police believe was connected to the Monterey Park shootings.

The man was found in a white van slumped over at the steering wheel dead.

Associated Press:

Police surrounded the van with tactical vehicles and bomb squad trucks for hours before going in. A person’s body appeared to be slumped over the wheel, but authorities did not immediately identify the person in the van.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna previously released photos of an Asian man who was believed to be the suspect, but he did not release the man’s name.

Chicago shootings: 33 shot, 8 fatally in weekend gun violence across city, police say
ABC News Local ^ | January 23, 2023

CHICAGO -- At least 33 people have been shot, eight fatally, in weekend shootings across Chicago, police said.

Two teens were shot, one fatally, Sunday afternoon while trying to buy a pair of shoes from a social media seller in West Pullman on the Far South Side. The teens, 17 and 18, were in a parked car about 2:05 p.m. in the 11900-block of South State Street when they met with the seller, Chicago police said. After the seller took money from them, he opened fire and struck both teens, authorities said. The 17-year-old boy was struck in the chest and pronounced dead, police said. The 18-year-old was struck in the elbow and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in good condition.

Hours later, three people were killed in separate shootings within minutes Sunday night in Gresham and Humboldt Park on the South and West Sides. About 7:05 p.m., a 35-year-old man was in the 700-block of South Spaulding Avenue when he was shot in the face, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, but he later died from his injuries, police said.

About 15 minutes later, another person, whose age was unknown, was in the 7600 block of South May Street when he was struck in the body by gunfire, police said. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Last weekend, 21 people were shot, four fatally, in gun violence incidents across the city.

Arrested 32 times since 2014, man allegedly engaged in a ‘firefight’ with a concealed carry holder on a CTA train {Chicago}
CWB Chicago ^ | January 22, 2023

Chicago — A man who has been arrested 32 times by Chicago police since 2014 robbed and then engaged in a “firefight” with a concealed carry holder on a Green Line train during the Friday afternoon rush hour, authorities said Sunday.

“It is a pure miracle by the grace of God that no one was killed, that no innocent bystander was killed,” Judge Maryam Ahmad remarked during the bail hearing for Darius Moss, 33.

“This is just ridiculous. Ridiculous,” Ahmad continued before ordering Moss to pay a $25,000 deposit toward bail to be released before trial.

Officials said a 25-year-old bank security guard was riding the train home shortly before 5 p.m. when Moss boarded his train car and started staring at him while smoking.

Ahmad was barred from holding Moss without bail because prosecutors did not ask her to.

CIVIL RIGHTS UPDATE:

Judge Temporarily Blocks Illinois Ban on Commonly Owned Semiautomatic Rifles.

Effingham County Judge Joshua Morrison issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) Friday, stopping, for now, the implementation of the Illinois ban on commonly owned semiautomatic rifles.

FOX News noted that Judge Morrison issued a TRO Friday in a case brought by “citizens from 87 Illinois counties.”

Morrison noted that the right to bear arms is protected by the U.S. Constitution and the Illinois constitution.

He observed that the 830 plaintiffs from the 87 counties “are being immediately and irreparably harmed each day in which their fundamental right to bear arms is being denied.”

THIS IS MORONIC, SINCE “GUN VIOLENCE” IS MOSTLY A PHENOMENON OF GANGS IN SELECT DEMOCRAT-RULED CITIES:

Pediatricians are giving out free gun locks to approach the gun violence epidemic as a public health crisis.

And it’s a behavior problem, not a “public health” problem.

Horribly,  gun accidents involving children happen, but thankfully they’re a tiny fraction of the deaths.

And yes everyone with children should have a gun lock.

But given the public health and medical professions’ patent incompetence in dealing with actual epidemics, let’s take a pass on giving them a role in addressing things outside their limited professional competence.

More awful news.  Two teens deliberately murdered.

But let's use their deaths as 'reasoning' for taking away the legal guns of millions of Americans.

Two students were killed just before 1 p.m. Monday in shootings at Starts Right Here, an educational mentorship program in downtown Des Moines that helps at-risk youth and has won high-profile support from state and city leaders.

Police spokesperson Paul Parizek said a third person who was wounded was in surgery and was in serious condition.

Parizek said the wounded students were found in very critical condition and that officers performed CPR on them. They were taken to a hospital, where they died.

Nicole Krantz, a coder at MercyOne Des Moines Clinics Administration, said her office, which is next door to the building at 455 S.W. Fifth St. where Starts Right Here is located, was put on lockdown immediately after the shooting. She said she saw someone running from the building with police in pursuit, both on foot and in patrol cars.

The shootings are the latest in a wave of violence that has swept over the Des Moines area since early December, including at least 10 homicides, the killing by Des Moines police of a 16-year-old who they said raised a gun toward them and several non-fatal shootings.

Parizek said that although "there was nothing random" about Monday's shootings, the specific motive was unclear. It was the eighth homicide in the city of Des Moines in the past two months, he said

Sad little cowards desperately clinging to their guns and the past.
