If it were not for Robert Johnson, Bill Broonzy, Charlie Patton, Mamie Smith you would not be listening to Elvis

True, but my 78's are pretty scratchy. I haven't listened much to the roots for years. Elvis is the guy that brought it all mainstream though. Without Elvis, Eric and Jon Mayall wouldn't have known about RJ and Son House. (egads! did I just say RJ? Yikes!) There wouldn't have been JMBB, Cream, Led Zepplin. The Beadles ripped off the Everly Brothers and the Beach Boys more than they did Elvis, and only John seemed to dig very deep towards the roots of it all. Of course, you'll bring up Paul's Little Richard thing. True, he did a good impersonation, but he was always more into show tunes... "When I'm 64..." (It'll be 2114).

NOT what is the best rock song, but what song rocks the hardest (there is a difference).

I'm gonna vote for two - both "sugar songs" :

"Sugarcube" - Yo La Tengo

"Sugarcane" - Sonic Youth

(Since this is a Bills Board, let's see how many posts we get before "Tom Sawyer" appears.)

BD, that one is hard to leave off any list. If you love that, you ought to check out "Live at the Beacon" DVD. "Desdemona" is just out of this world, in fact the whole concert just punches me right in the face.....in a good way.

Here's another that I didn't see on the list: "One of these days" by Pink Floyd

AC/DC: Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution

I took a look inside your bedroom door

You looked so good lying on your bed

Well, I asked you if you wanted any rhythm and love

You said you wanna rock 'n' roll instead

Def Leppard: Rock of Ages

Rise up! Gather round

Rock this place to the ground

Burn it up let's go for broke

Watch the night go up in smoke

Rock on! (rock on!)

Drive me crazier, no serenade

No fire brigade, just Pyromania, c'mon

What do you want? What do you want?

I want rock'n'roll

Long live rock'n'roll

Van Halen: And The Cradle Will Rock

Well, they say it's kinda frightnin'

How this younger generation swings

You know it's more than just some new sensation

Well, the kid is into losin' sleep

And he don't come home for half the week

You know it's more than just an aggravation

And the cradle will rock

Yes the cradle, cradle will rock

And I say rock on...

Also either "Bad To The Bone" or "I Drink Alone" by George Thorogood & the Destroyers.

And I can't believe no one's listed Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good." That one always goes to eleven on my radio when it comes on.
