gjv001
Do you think the fact that Schwartz having a lot of experience with NFC North teams, and we play the NFC North next year, could have been the deciding factor in his hiring?
26CornerBlitz
No. It's not a one season decision.
NoSaint
I'd hope not as after 3 games that perk is gone. I'd call it an added bonus not a deciding factor at all. Though he hasn't dominated them so their familiarity with him might be a perk for NFCN teams too. 4-8 in the division the last two years (0-6 in 2012, 4-2 last year) Edited January 25, 2014 by NoSaint
billsrcursed
I think (hope) hiring a D coordinator would be a little more of a "long term" and in-depth a decision than who our opponents are for 2014...
KGUNBILLS
Pettines aggressive defensive schemes needed to be followed up by someone equally aggressive. Our defense was geared toward pressuring the QB. Hopefully Schwartz will pick up where Pettine left off, and maybe improve based on where the defense struggled last season. It would have been interesting to see what Pettines defense looked like in 2014 though.
Over 29 years of fanhood
Yes! In that there are games in the 2014 season, the bills play in at least 16 of them, and based on that likely want a defensive coordinator to help try and win those games.... These facts definitely influenced the move to hire a DC Edited January 25, 2014 by over 20 years of fanhood
JPS
Just an added bonus.
Acantha
I think (hope) hiring a D coordinator would be a little more of a "long term" and in-depth a decision than who our opponents are for 2014... Why? We get a new one every year anyway, might as well take advantage.
prissythecat
Based on the threat title, I thought that we may have dueled for something
TPS
I wonder how much Marrone learned about pettine's defense and how much input he'll have in shaping schwartz's defense to incorporate any of pettine's principles?
8-8 Forever?
Do you think the fact that Schwartz having a lot of experience with NFC North teams, and we play the NFC North next year, could have been the deciding factor in his hiring? Certainly not, but him knowing those teams will absolutely help. Thoughtful post.
2020 Our Year For Sure
I wonder how much Marrone learned about pettine's defense and how much input he'll have in shaping schwartz's defense to incorporate any of pettine's principles? Was also wondering this, or if Marrone might task say Henderson to work with Schwartz and make sure we're retaining some of these pass rush and coverage concepts. They have plenty of time to work toward getting the best out of both systems. Edited January 25, 2014 by Aaron
