The Bills will sign another CB

I ask myself this: Did the Bills go into this season expecting to lose? Realistically, did they go into this year thinking it would be a good year to let the young guys play, and to see how good the back end of the roster is? How much salary cap is still available? The front office knew it had one legitimate CB on this roster, and one legitimate Safety (who was, btw, on strike) and did little to address it. I happen to like the safety position WITH Byrd, but without him we're one safety short of a good tandem. I don't know how this team will respond, and as a fan I'm hoping to be surprised - but, to leave such a big portion of your team vulnerable to this, that when one or two guys get injured you're left with so little options, and seem so vulnerable - it makes me think, that since they didn't do anything to safeguard against it, that they were okay with the prospect of losing this year. After all, no one expected them to win anyway, right?

Well they did draft 2 safeties, and A Williams has looked pretty good. The Bills also spent a 3rd or 4th round on Searcy a couple years ago so i wouldn't say they did nothing. CB looks really week, but they are going to get some players being cut in the next week. Hopefully they can find someone. CB will be tough.

Damn, the average IQ of this place has dropped substantially in the last year or so. Apparently nuance isn't something easily understood.

No one is comparing Brady to Gilmore, the point was, the loss of a single player does not make or break a season. Gilmore will be back in 4 weeks and EJ will be the starter, the team still isn't winning the SB. I'd be thrilled if they were 8-8 this year.

Snippet from an article on CBS with regards to cuts:

Older players can be in jeopardy during the final cutdown because versatility becomes a factor. Players making up the back end of a roster are required to play special teams. Older players are at a disadvantage for these spots because they usually haven't been special teams contributors since early in their careers -- before they became starters. Backup older players don't have much utility unless they are making a significant contribution to the offense or defense (i.e.; pass rushing specialist, nickel defensive back, third-down receiver, etc.). Example: Four-time All-Pro Nnamdi Asomugha could find himself out of work in San Francisco if he doesn't win the third cornerback/

Will this really happen and if it does, will the Bills jump and get him.

I have heard this about Asomugha a few times and thought I was heariung things (that he may not make the team in SF). It is astounding to me how far he has fallen in a few years in terms of his value. I would love to get him!! He can still play, watched him in a PS game the other day, but SF is just stacked.

I believe Whaley is waiting for the cuts on the 31st and will overpay to get the best veteran CB available. Good news is, we're a bajillion dollars under the cap so they can add a semi-solid veteran CB and add some depth at the same time.

could be a blessing in disguise, maybe, just maybe, even if he is another team's castoff could still prove to be better than McKelvin and be our new #2 when Gilmore returns.

I don't think our 2nd string QB is on the roster yet. Whaley had to sign who he could over the weekend. Tuel, Leinart and Lewis are in the interesting position of playing for the opening day starter/3rd string spot.

A lot of QBs will be available in 6 days. My guess is Whaley signs whoever is cut between Brady Quinn and Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson might even be able to start week 1 with knowledge of the offense. I'm guessing the Giants would also like to sneak Ryan Nassib onto the practice squad, but know the Bills would sign him if they tried.

Having said all that, EJ is obviously the starter when he is healthy, Kolb is probably headed to IR, 2nd string will be acquired next week and 3rd string/opening day starter will be decided in practice and during the game on Thursday. If Tuel losses out to Leinart or Lewis in the next few days, he probably makes the practice squad. For all of the positive talk about Tuel, his performance on Saturday was less than stellar.

If you want Jackson then I say trade for him now. Do you think a #7 conditional to a #6 will get it done?

Neither are a lock to make their teams because they are on loaded rosters at that position. Both teams also could use WRs so I would be willing to do a trade if either wanted TJ Graham. But that's just me.

It does sound like they might be come available, but part of me thinks we'll be the Bills and sign other cbs haha. I'm classically conditioned.
