I never really participated in the Donte, Fitz or Poz hatred but I always found it easy to get very annoyed with Kelsay. More than anything else, for a guy who was "the consumate pro" he was always losing outside containment and being fooled by misdirection. This literally brought me to the brink of blind rage on numerous occasions. If you're: a) A consumate professional, and b) A seasoned veteran, this sort of repeated failure is completely inexcusable. Hopefully this is the last time I have to vent about Kelsay. This is exactly right and should be the beginning and end of the argument. Even his supporters always claimed his work ethic, attitude, etc. as his strong points. No one ever called CK a rare talent or elite specialist in one area of the game. Fact is, after 10 years of ample playing time and opportunity, he was still making bad decisions on the field, playing out of position, not doing his job, making blatant mistakes. He lacked positional discipline and was making rookie mistakes 7, 8, 9 years into his career. He's not leading the younger guys by example playing like that. Eball is right, the stats he put up were consistent, consistently awful. If he wants to call that "production," then fine. But I cant be mad at the money he made and neither should anyone else. That's an indictment on the decision makers and franchise as a whole. They're deserving of way more scorn than CK. Glad he's finally gone, should've been cut many years ago. Even though there were no reports, quotes, or indications that he was asked to take a paycut or he was going to be cut, let's believe that. Kelsay sucked. He was a thief. I hate him. What evidence do you, SJBF, have that says kelsay was going to be cut, was told he was going to be cut, or the coaches hinted at? And what common sense is this based on? I personally am not a Kelsay hater. I have backed his abilities before(in comparison to other #2 DEs in the league).....and even supported his contract numbers(some years back). I personally assumed that he would be cut for several reasons. He was getting old. His durability had become a question(particularly considering his age). His cap number was extraordinarily high for a #2 DE in today's league......he was the 23rd highest paid DE in the league. The logic was to at least ask him to take a pay cut. So if we're being fair here, it seemed that Kelsay intended to play at least one more season. Then he suddenly announced his retirement. There are two possible explanations. The one given by Kelsay or the one I believe, that the team told him he wasn't in their plans. None of us know the truth but I think both explanations are equally plausible. I certainly give no weight to Kelsay's official statement. That's all PR and glad-handing stuff that always happens during retirement statements. Kelsay retired with a few million dollars left on the table. Again, I believe he was forced out. Sorry about the a-holishness of my pre-edited response. Let me ask you this: who has more of an agenda and opportunity to promote it, the star WR (or DE, whatever) or the relatively anonymous AP beat writer? He wanted to play for one team and spend more time with his family. He retired. Like any player that I could tell gave his al for TEN YEARS I respect him. And he (Lindell) may not be out of the woods yet...He very well could be replaced by a cheaper option before/after training camp I'm confused by this, too. Can someone please tell me how to feel??? smh It is easy...If you love football, you can always do that....There are so many great players on other teams that we dislike on the field, but once the game is done, we really appreciate their games. I am a big Knicks fan and for a decade when they had one of their best teams, they were pummeled every year by Michael Jordan (and by Olajuwon the two years Michael took a break) in the playoffs and they ended up having ZERO championships while Jordan and the Bulls had SIX.
