I went to the Optometrist for the first time in maybe 5 years since my Lasik. I figured it would be smart to just go ahead and get checked since I never did my 1 year post op. Turns out it was a good thing.

Just in the normal check up they found out I have a roughly 1.5mm hole in the bottom of my eye which could cause the retina to become detached and cause near blindness if not full. At this time fluid could fill in the hole and cause distortion and damage to the eye. The doctor said it is nothing major, yet, but could become serious if not treated. I will go to a retina specialist in October for what will become a pre-op procedure. The process to treat is simply using a laser to burn around the hole and not allow it to expand.

I have no symptoms, no problems with vision, nothing. Perfect 25/20 vision. It is a problem that nearsighted and farsighted people can have due to the oblong shape of the eye and the pressures put upon it by being misshapen. So, paying just a tiny bit after insurance, I definitely think it was worth it...so go get your eyes checked even if you have good vision!

Had something similar happen a few years ago. I was having my eyes get a little red when i wore contacts and sometimes a little irritated. Finally after switiching contacts a few times from monthly to weekly to daily to put them in acid at night, I developed an ulcer on my left eye and if i didnt switch to glasses permanetly I would go blind in that eye.

Take care of your eyes

As someone who is already blind in one eye, I concur with this message. Besides the regular visits to the optometrist, never use bungee cords without proper eye protection. Its not an obvious safety glasses situation like when using power tools. A few different docs told me that bungee cord mishaps are an all too common cause of eye trauma.

Woke up one morning to huge floaters in my left eye. I had just been to my Optometrist a week before and received a clean bill of health at that time. I called them and they saw me right away. Sudden onset of floaters is a symptom of a few things, one of which is a detached retina. Turns out in my case that it was a relatively benign case of posterior vitreous detachment. Floaters pretty much went away after 2-3 weeks. It was a bit of a scare though.

So boys and girls, unless you want to blindly follow DC Tom... take care of your eyeballs. See your Optometrist regularly, and tell them right away if your vision suddenly, or noticeably changes.
