judman Posted May 9, 2012 Share Posted May 9, 2012 I've never sat in the Rock Pile. I always assumed the seats were so cheap there because the view of the scoreboard sucked. But on the other hand, the tix are quite a bit cheaper, and most fans say there is really not a bad seat at the Ralph. I was thinking about buying tix in that area, more or less just to do it. Like the poster above said, season tix are sold out there, I missed out on it myself, but if you want to pay the money for stubhub tix, they're not terrible seats. mrags Posted May 10, 2012 Share Posted May 10, 2012 I've been in every type of seat/section of the stadium as far as sides, levels, areas and have never disliked any seat in the stadium with the exception of the 300s. The cold and wind just kills you up there and your just too far away from the action. But the Rockpile os a ton of fun and not bad views of either the field or the scoreboard. Sure you have to turn around to see it but then it's much bigger and clearer than anywhere else in the stadium. Unfortunately for you, as many have already said, the Rockpile is already sold out. I'm in the tunnel side endzone myself and wouldn't change it for anything besides moving down closer to the field, but at row 14 it doesn't get much lower. Have fun and enjoy wherever you go. They always said it was the best place to watch the game. Speaking for hockey, the boards are an obstruction so it makes sense to sit behind the end boards rather than the side boards. Also that vantage point is a nice compromise between intimacy and overview and a good compromise between the vertical and horizontal perspectives. I think Hockey is such a different feel because the arena is so significantly smaller than a football stadium. I'm not sure there really is a poor seat in the Aud. Nothing good about that place exept the magical sound of the sports writers using manual typewriters trying to finish the story in time for the Courier Express to get it to press for me to deliver the paper the next morning at 6 AM. tennesseeboy Posted May 10, 2012 Share Posted May 10, 2012 Ahhh...the rockpile...I remember getting billy clubbed while trying to sneak in, and my friends getting caught and escorted out, but by the time I'd kicked my way over the fence they and security had exited so I got in to watch the Bills play the Houston Oilers. On the tunnel side at least you can watch the scoreboard when play is at the other end. There is a reason why seats in the rockpile are so cheap. But if you want to party, that's the place to be. I'm not sure there really is a poor seat in the Aud. It really depends on the game but I agree with you. The only time I ever had a problem was when I sat 2nd row on the blue line. The glass and boxes obstructed my view to the other end of the ice. My personal take on both is sitting anywhere that's higher than 20 rows up b/w bluelines/30 yard lines. Was snowing so hard couldn't even see the field (we were wayyyyy up) The crowd below would cheer and we didn't have a clue what happened! It snowed 4" by the end of the game! I have sat all over the Ralph and I didn't like the rock pile seats. There was a bunch of idiots that were already drunk when they got in and all they did was fight, drink and raise hell. PTR This year will be my 9th season in 243 row 3 and I completely agree. When the play is in the other end of the field, just turn around and watch the big screen! As many have noted, the Rockpile is indeed a rowdy place. Personally, I love it. I can also easily understand why some people wouldn't. I've sat in the club seats plenty of times and while the view is spectacular, I don't like feeling as though I have to stifle my enthusiasm. To me, it's too docile in the better seats. I'm not a raving drunken lunatic either but I've definitely felt like one when I'm surrounded by people sitting on their hands in the club sections and below. Different strokes...
