Maybin wins game 4 Jets

How come no one has raised the idea that perhaps Maybin is on steroids again? Remember , the NFL has not done any testing since the lockout.

Probably because he doesn't look physically bigger. The Jets use him as a situational player (and in a position that suits him, not as a LB) which allows him to contribute.

Good thing most of the fanbase never gave the kid a chance. IT's funny how some will try to bash the Bills for cutting him when 90% of the fans never wanted or wanted him gone. I was never a fan of the pick, but I would have keep him for at least one year. You never ever give up on young players (especially pass rushers) early. The 1st round pick was a sunken cost.

And you know what? Good for Maybin.

The Bills didn't want to pay Maybin a high pick salary to be a pass rush specialist, He's listed at 228 and is not an every down player and I don't blame Maybin for any of this, this was the front office stupidity to pick a guy who had to bulk up 25lbs to become only 25lbs under the ideal weight for the position.

Aaron Maybin forced fumble on a sack late in 4th to seal it for the jets........6 sacks 4 him now :wallbash:

Ya...looks like when given a chance the kid can actually get to the QB. Don't bother posting it though because nobody on this board has the balls or integrity to admit that they might have been wrong. With those types it's always the players or somebody outside of themselves fault for them being wrong.

Insert standard comments here:

"He didn't show enough in practice to get playing time"

"He didn't want to be here"

"He's gone now. Who cares?"

"He still sucks and I hate him he hurt my feelings"

I agree with you man. Good luck with the rest though.

Maybin is better than any pass rusher we have ....if we had any.

Fixed ;)

But Fletcher made all his tackles downfield. :wallbash: And Puz was an immediate upgrade. :wallbash::wallbash:

Yet another perfect example of how we had a guy that was really good and we made a new hole by getting rid of him and drafting his replacement with a second round pick who wasn't as good and is also no longer with this team. When is this ORGANIZATION going to start replacing the underachievers instead of the guys that are actually playing well?

The little I've seen of him with the Jets, he looks very fast, and seems to really be getting around the tackles. On a team that has an anemic pass rush, how did we not find a way for him to be a pass rush specialist for us........Is it because Chan, like Gregg, has it in his mind that he wants to play 3-4 (Gregg wanted 4-3), even though the personnel doesn't fit?

They always say that good coaches tailor their team around the skills of the players it has.......Yet, we've had at least three coaches this decade who did the opposite (Eff Dick and his Tampa 2, too)

He was on Jim Rome today. Very classy. No disrespect toward the Bills. But he did say he gave it everything he had in Buffalo, and just didn't have the opportunities Ryan has given him.

I heard that interview. The only thing I'd add to your comments is that Rome set up the whole interview around getting him talking and see what he'd say about the Bills. He asked twice about why he wasn't successful with the Bills, and Maybin adamantly answered that he worked as hard as he could. It wasn't fun to listen to an interview about how the Jets can utilize talent the Bills can't, but he answered it respectfully.

It is called coaching and game planning.

Maybin was so bad in buf it was blinding. Why does if matter he is a good situational player on a defense with multiple probowlers?

+1

He's obviously benefitting from being part of very good defensive unit. It's a different situation for him, teams aren't accounting for him because he has so many good players around him.

people seem to forget the Jets cut him after picking him up... he passed through waivers so ever team passed as well. I don't see why teams just don't run right at him? He's got one move to the outside leaving a huge hole.

doesn't mean I don't want to fire Edwards however....

Bingo, sooner or later teams are going to do exactly that. Let him bullrush his way around the end and run inside him all day (and of course pray that Bart Scott isn't there to make the play).

I agree, I heard the interview as well, thought he handled himself very well considering how much Rome was trying to bait him into saying some disparaging remarks about the team or city.

Has anyone had a chance to view each one of Maybin's sacks? I always gave him credit for trying as hard as he could when he played as a Bill (mostly in preseason games)... But just like in Buffalo, he still tends to get tossed around like a rag doll by offensive tackles. Most of the sacks that I've seen him make as a Jet have come on broken plays, when the quarterback has held the ball too long. Maybin rarely uses any sort of swim move when he attempts to get by a mammoth OT. He's simply a tweener, who's entirely too light to play defensive end and too uncoordinated to play outside linebacker (and cover tight ends).

What I've always witnessed is a guy who sprints 100 miles an hour to try to get around the end and often ends up looking like road kill 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage. 6 sacks look good on paper for anyone in the NFL, but Maybin's have predominantly come after he's peeled himself off the turf and ran at full speed to "surprise" an out of pocket signal caller from behind. Then he celebrates and taunts like he's the second coming of Lawrence Taylor!

Believe me, the Bills made the right call on Maybin, because the team wasn't talented enough to afford him any more time to prove himself. And when he was on the field, he showed that he had no real chance at sacking quarterbacks, unless he got lucky, like he has for the Jets. Mark my words... Maybin will have a short career in the NFL, simply because he can't carry additional weight on his slight frame and he doesn't have God-given talent to compensate for it. Some sack artists have defied the odds (like Dwight Freeney of the Colts), because they combine a speed rush with strong moves or a low center of gravity to get to the quarterback. At his height and weight, Maybin will never have what it takes be an every down force. And as one poster has already stated, he'll be nothing more than a situational pass rusher, which is something most teams can ill afford to have on their 53-man roster.
