Today was a punch in the face that was much needed...

Recommended Posts

As much as I hate to admit it, maybe this team is a bit overrated. I personally saw this (loss) coming a mile away! All of the hype, the whole "Whiteout" thing, combined with a couple of wins vs. New England and Oakland that we had to come back from huge deficits in order to win. This team was just not overmatched today, they looked tired, undisciplined, and outclassed. It didn't surprise me a bit that Buffalo lost today. It didn't even surpise me the way that they lost today. They couldn't stop the run...AGAIN. With the exception of the Carrington sack, they couldn't pressure the Quarterback...AGAIN. The offensive line looked like deer in the headlights against the Jets DL and LB's...YET AGAIN!

My assessment of this team thus far: They're a group that plays week in and week out like they have nothing to lose. Fine. When you haven't made the playoffs in a decade (and counting), you are able to play that way. The problem with that is, when you start to have success and win ball games, you need to begin to take yourselves a bit more seriously. If you don't, you find yourself getting ran over by a team that has that sense of urgency that you lack because you've been a complete joke since 1999.

That team showed up today, at Ralph Wilson Stadium, right in the middle of our "Whiteout", and delivered a well deserved reality-check to your organization. The Jets have lined up against the Bills for the last four meetings, making no secret about what they intend to do (run the football, "Ground and Pound", etc.), you know what they're going to try to do, and you STILL cannot stop it. Even though the opening possession resulted in an interception, the drive lasted over ten minutes. Almost every time (in the Rex Ryan era), Buffalo looked like they didn't belong on the same field.

My advise to the Bills: You can either take this punch in the face as a wakeup call, show that you can be resilliant and be a better team as a result of this loss. Or...is it the killshot that ended your season. I'm taking it as a wakeup call and calling for a blowout at Cowboys stadium next week. I really do believe this team is different than teams from the last ten years. And next week will be the week the new era of Bills football (a winning era) will begin: BILLS-34 COWBOYS-10.

I agree....but we came with a simple scheme....they had two week to plan for this game...we did nothing to even challege the defense

Jets treated this game like a playoff game and it seemed like we treated like just another game....the intensity wasn't there everything was nonchalant

Hope your right what a miserable Sunday against a team I hate the most. I believe in this team as well just not sure if we came out to excited or hyped. Looked scared and unwilling to attack them at some points. Time to focua on getting a quality road win next week. At least Pats loss we r dead locked at fitst. Pullin for pats next week over jets

I felt like the Bills started off giving them wayyy too much respect. We seemed pretty intimidated. Towards the end we played like we had nothing to lose and wouldn't you know it - the offense finally started working. I think our identity lies somewhere there...WE have to play without fear, without doubt and we have to impose our will on the other team.

The Bills were not in the game for one minute. They got beat physically and mentally by a team that was fired up and better prepared. The crowd at the Ralph never had a moment to get into the game -- and white out or not -- was terribly quiet today. Hard to blame them, the 12th Man needs something to cheer about in order to become a factor.

The Bills didn't just get beat -- they got dominated. So much so, there really isn't any point in picking out specific players who shat the bed. The entire team, from top to bottom, played horrendously. The coaches were horrible. The crowd was horrible. And the Jets just flat out kicked our ass from the opening whistle until the final gun.

But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater here. Every team, even the great teams, occasionally lays an egg. It's happened to pretty much every team this season but for the Packers. There's no one left on the schedule the Bills can't beat -- including the Jets and Pats on the road.

There is nothing to feel good about this game -- but there's nothing to panic over either. It may be a cliche, but failure is not in falling down, it's in not getting up. The Bills have a tough stretch ahead of them, but a win next week and they're sitting in the catbird seat once again.

Enjoy the ride.

I hate the Jets as much as anyone, but gotta give them some credit. They came out arrogant and NASTY today on our field. I hope someday soon the Bills can play with that tenacity where they KNOW they're gonna win and dominate physically. We have one more game at NY in a couple weeks. Hope to see a better prepared team to play nasty like the Jets.

On another note, watching the Jets DB's is like watching another league. Why are the Bills DB's so incredibly passive? The Jets hand check you and are in your face the whole game. No wonder the refs never flag them for PI....they are so used to seeing them play that style. When a Bills DB so much as grazes his fingers against a JETs receiver they throw a PI flag....mainly b/c they don't expect a Bills DB to be anywhere close and if they are, it's illegal.

I agree.

This team, including Gailey, comes loaded for bear for certain games like the Patriots and after losses, but seems to take a step back for others, including yesterday. I felt early on the offense lacked the punch you saw in the wins. It felt like the offense of the Bengals game.

I knew the team was going to come out and play well against the Redskins, and I think you'll see an intense team effort next week against the Cowboys.

The Bills got b...slapped in this game and it shows just how much further the team needs to go to be ready for prime time. The Bills are much better than years past and I believe the front office is leading the charge for a change. However, until the Bills add the following they will be hard pressed to win consistently against elite teams:

Another big man to play in the NG in the 3-4. Dareus belongs in there on the majority of the snaps but will need to rotate. (Kyle Willims will move out to rnd if he returns this year)

A pass rush specialist - someone opposing teams must game plan for

one shut down corner - the Bills have 2 good corners but not a great one

While I love Stevie Johnson he is probably a better #2 and the Bills need a "I can take control of a game" #1 physical receiver

The Bills are not that far away.

BTW - Having to move Levitre out to LT is hurting the Bills significantly.

Good points. I think Gailey called it after the first few wins: we aren't as bad as some people had us being, now that we've won they're putting us on a pedestal and we don't belong there, either.

Overall I kind of feel that this is a team that hasn't learned to deal with success too well yet - including the coaching.

After the NE win when we were 3-0, it seemed as though we came out soft and flat against a very physical Bengals team. The gameplan didn't seem to take the Bengals seriously enough as needing some special preparation, and the players were playing without intensity.

Same thing after we beat Philly with their vaunted CB and pass rush - I felt we came out soft and flat against a very physical Giants team and didn't play with enough intensity.

Last week we thumped the Redskins and once again, it seems as though we got a little full of ourselves. No intensity, and a gameplan that was very puzzling.

So now we see. Do we come out firing on all cylinders and take the Cowboys down? and if we do...can we then manage to sustain the intensity for more than one game?

Because make no mistake, if we take Mia lightly they will bite us....look at NO at the Rams and Mia at KC.

We have some growing up to do, no mistake there. Including in our coaching.
