Merriman to IR

Recommended Posts

You think this had anything to do with HGH testing? There no mention of a achilles injury. That same week the NFL is ready to conduct HGH testing. The NFL PA resist, trying to stall the process, proably to protect some players, and he suddenly has an injury. If he is on IR, is he exempt from subtance testing for the rest of the season? Either way it a big blow I think. If he was caught again it would be a year suspension.

Say what you want about Merriman but he is very known around the NFL and word will spread fast about Buffalo (Like we really need that) if he had a chance to play and the Bills just said forget about him.

Your inferiority complex might be showing.

I think it's more likely that Merriman has great things to say about Buffalo and the Bills organization.

How can he be bitter? He got a 2-year, $10.5 million contract when no other teams were interested.

I'd like to know what other OLBs have been "producing." Other than Kelsay, nobody else has done squat.

GO BILLS!!!

No kidding, K-9.

I thought that all the ridiculous clamor for Moats and Batten would fade a bit after they combined to produce zero against the Giants mediocre offensive line.

I'm very glad to have Antonio Coleman back though.

Even if it turns out that he can't produce edge pressure, he's a very physical player.

Nobody could even come close to qualifying much less quantifying the risk but judged it to be a good one. I don't know about you but if I walk into a casino and I don't know the odds of the game...I'm not playing it and I SURE as hell would not say it was good risk. That is just a dumb uninformed decision.

Likewise you never came close to qualifying much less quantifying the risk of signing Merriman, but judged it to be a bad one. Pure speculation against pure speculation. Glad you feel vindicated, but that point was definitely missed in the original cluster F of a thread.

The achilles has been a problem for awhile and HGH testing was always on the docket.

Drew Brees...

What is "the same team that still employs Norv Turner?"

Sounds like Merriman is having surgery. He's not bitter towards the Bills.

Moats and Batten better grow up in a hurry.

Coleman can at least hold the POA some of the time.

Until he shows me something otherwise, I will continue to think Moats is our worst LB against the run. Bar none. He is only effective when he can rush the passer from the outside shoulder from a two-point stance. Against the Giants they had him in a three point stance square up against the RT on a couple occasions and he was barely visible. Just got swallowed. Moats has little chance in honest down/distance situations. And Batten might be worse from the little he's shown this year.

GO BILLS!!!

In the back of everyones mind I think we knew this was about to happen.....

- Shawn looked outstanding in pre season

- When the regular season came....ghostown

It is my opinion that Shawn has been hurt for longer then even we realize and not just the shoulder.....

Nix did what he has been doing since he arrived.....when he feels a player is done....then they are gone and another player is given a chance.

Merriman really did look awesome in pre-season. Big Strong fast dominant.

Yeah it was pre-season, but he still looked like a force to be reckoned with.

If the is true:

(linky??)

Due to the fact that i have recently been experiencing excessive aggravation in my achilles tendon, which is limitation that i have been dealing with for well over two years not, i sought the opinions of multiple medical specialist. after much consideration and unanimous professional recommendations stating that my Achilles is in danger of rupturing, i have been advised that it would be in my best interest to undergo surgery as soon as possible in order to prevent a major injury. I would like to thank all of my fans for their continued support on my road to a full recovery and am looking forward to getting back our on the field.

-Lights.

This is a quote from Merriman

It sounds like a proactive tune up surgery, as opposed to another rupture\reconstruction.

I doubt he gets cut then.

It would make more sense to see how he comes out of this surgery in training camp and preseason 2012.

He is still cheap and can be cut next year before the roster bonus in September 2012.

So I'd expect some more Merriman discussions for the next year.

However is the statement is not true and he blew a tire again, It's not likely he can make it back . Cadillac Williams is only person to come back from two different Achilles, I don't know of anyone that came back from blowing the same Achilles twice.

well. if we can get someone to come in and record 9 tackles by the time we play the titans in week 13, he will have equaled merriman's production.

anyone (other than merriman's immediate family) that has a reaction any stronger than "meh" to this news, is clearly sad about what could have been, , rather than what we actually lost.

any practice squad player or unsigned free agent will do just fine as a replacement.

guy had no power to get through the line to the qb this year. none.

*edit*

just saw we resigned coleman. significant improvement. can't WAIT til sunday. bring on the skins and 5-2 baby.

I have been thinking for a while that he has been "nursing" this injury for 2+ years and avoiding surgery. By this point with "flare ups" it is apparent that the problem is not going to heal itself with rest. Unfortunately the prognosis after Achilles surgery is probably not that great either.

Folks also need to ease up with the "Merriman looked awesome in preseason" claims.

There is some truth to this, but the reality is that Merriman had 3-5 awesome plays in preseason. And he was only asked to take the field for about a dozen or so snaps, leaving most of us in the dark as far whether he was even capable of withstanding a four quarter grind.

That question has been answered.

Great sprinter, incapable of finishing the marathon.

Based on his season so far there is no evidence he is using HGH, and if he was, he was not getting much out of it.

Done. I really hope the Bills realize it is finally time to give up on the rejuvination project. Draft / sign his replacement and continue to build. It would have been great IF Merriman turned it around, but this erases all doubt that there is no hope for him in the NFL.
