My takeaway from these huge new contracts for WRs is that the positional value has never been higher and therefore the need to use high draft picks on them has never been greater. I think Beane trading for a top WR was always a pipe dream. At best I could see him planing to add a rental star for as cheap as he can comp wise at the trading deadline if plan A to grab a couple of guys in the draft doesn’t work.

If I were Bean I’d be taking a WR in the 1st and either a pass catching RB in the 4th or 5th and a WR in the other round. Right now the team is as good as it finished last year receiver wise, and they really didn’t struggle to score down the stretch.

Dude is SOFT. Despite some drops he’s a good back out of the backfield in the flat and on wheel routes, and he has some speed and shiftiness when running. BUT I don’t know if I saw him get one contested yard the entire year. He does an excellent job of getting what is blocked for him and that’s it literally. It seems like almost every time he’s touched he goes down instantly. They talk about how good back can get 3 yards when there’s 1-2 to get. When there’s 1-2 to get, Cook gets 1. He doesn’t even fall / push forward at the end of runs to get the 1/2-1 yard extra most RBs do. There’s a reason they NEVER used him on short yardage after Brady was the OC. A number 1 RB has to be able to muscle up consistently and Cook just can’t do it.

I’d add one big caveat….Frazier with almost perfectly healthy teams came up short every time from having his D make an impact in the playoffs. This year, Bills had a D riddled with critical injuries and the result was the same. There would be no 13 second let down if Frazier had been without his two starting LBs, his best CB and numerous critical backups. It would’ve been the game the Bills scored 30 something and the chiefs dropped 50 on them.

Important to remember that back in 2008 offensive averages weren’t nearly the same as they are today….largely due to the way the NFL has shaped the game through how they call things. In 2008, 4,000 passing yards made you a top 5 QB yardage wise. In 2022 you had to have 4,500 plus. In 2008, 10 QBs finished with a rating above 90, vs 18 last year. So if you’re doing the same as a guy 15 years ago, you’re actually doing a decent bit worse.

He pulls out a couple of decent starters from every draft. The cap is a mess, but only a killer if Pegula stops writing checks to get around the cap. He tends to find some other decent pieces along the way via trades and signings. This is a very talented team, and he is responsible for assembling almost all of it. The people complaining about Bean are the same crew that complained about Polian and Butler. When those guys left the team went down the toilet. Bean is a top 5 GM in the NFL, he just maybe needs a better coach.

So with yesterday’s loss Buffalo looks like a lock for Hard Knocks. They won’t be in the playoffs baring a miracle run, they won’t have a new head coach, and there’s no team who has half the intrigue or star power that will be eligible for the show next year. So another huge distraction, but maybe some fun to see the team up close. The extra attention also might keep Diggs committed, so that’s good.

He’s been doing this for years. It’s a common practice for QBs. Brady also did this for years. Joke in Boston was it’s like legal coke gets you hyper alert before you take the field.

Beane better be on the horn looking for trades to bolster the D unless they want to toss this year away.

Agreed. If you handed out free gold for being a Bills fan about a third of the people on this board would complain how heavy it was. And then moan about it not being platinum.

At the time a number of post draft write ups criticized Bean for taking Rousseau saying Basham was the better passrusher. Basham rated well out of school and was easily worth a 2nd round shot. It didn’t pan out in part because this roster is simply a lot deeper than any Bills roster has been for 20 years.

Because he was a more athletic Trent Edwards when it came to his inability to take risks. The guy could run, and he could throw it deep, but he needed guys to be college level open on 10-15 yard out routs to even consider throwing it. He didn’t work midrange over the middle so he became really easy to figure out. Play your safeties back and play contain and he’ll just throw it away or throw it too short. He was the king of throwing it to the flat on 3rd and long. Sadly he was still a better QB than Losman, and he could’ve been better than Fitz or the Bills Era Bledsoe, IF he had any guts at all. But he learned behind Flacco to never take a risk and only make the throws you can guarantee will be complete, and without flaccos rocket arm, that meant not a ton of throws. It’s also part of why Flacco fell off a cliff himself because the second he lost a few MPH on his fastball he became too scared to play.

I don’t think Boogie could net a 2026 7th rounder at this point. But I’d be happy to be proven wrong.

Love this move. Guy isn’t a world beater, but is a solid veteran pass rusher and a heck of a lot better than anyone the Bills have after Miller and Rousseau. As a pure pass rusher he was the best left on the market.

I’ve found Allentown to have a lot of great places to hang out. Me and a group grabbed an AirBnb for the Broncos game there as well this year.

Well the guy he’s replacing had 4.54 speed. And from what I’ve read, Campbell wasn’t a sideline to sideline guy and it showed….in the Big Ten West. And as much as I love the Big Ten, I think most of us are fast by Iowa, NU, UW, Minn etc standards.

Jack Campbell? So in a league built upon speed, in a D that stresses speed, at a spot where often only 2 guys are playing, the idea is to go with a throwback slow LB? This guy maybe makes sense in a 3-4 system, where fast OLBs can mask his inability to cover ground, but with a team whose base is a modified nickel this just doesn’t make sense.

The problem with Henry is two fold. One he’s getting old and slowing down slightly…but for RBs there’s often a cliff so he could turn to garbage quick. Two, and more of an issue, his style only works with enough touches. You need to feed him 20 times a game to get him going and that means accepting a lot of 2-4 yard rushes in the first half and playing tight and conservative. That simply isn’t the Bills style, and more importantly it isn’t a winning style in todays game.

Jake Ferguson - TE UW…..kid will be a solid traditional TE perfect complement in 22 personnel to Knox….which would be great near the goaline.

If you have a problem with it stop them on the field. Miami wants to be chippy tough guys….but then whine about this stuff afterwards?

I agree Allen’s regression to a 50% completion rate is distressing…but why I’m not super worried is that he’s still fairly regularly making the “wow” throws he wasn’t making until last year.

This might end the NE trade / acquisition fever. After all if there’s one owner who needs to stay FAR away from and rub and tug headlines....
