When was the last time the team that "won" in free agency...

Recommended Posts

Since only one team wins a championship each year, in each league, the real question to ask is simple:

When was the last time a team "got better" with free agency???

Answer: It happens to multiple teams every year, in every sport. Period. End of story.

This is correct, this whole thread is just a silly collusion of fantasy land / football.

TE is not a position of emphasis in Gailey's offense. This is why the position has not been pursued in the draft nor through FA.

Okay, forget TE. How about a LT, a legit edge rusher, a thumper at MLB.....shall I go on or are the Bills schemes so scary good that they don't need any of those either?

There is no point in saying this everyone on this board is unhappy till we sign a high priced TE that will not be used

Then he shouldn't have a TE- one of the offenses problems last year was that TE and FB needn't be game planned for at all- the Bills were playing with three where most other teams made you account for 4 or 5- that is not a winning strategy.

1994 Niners (Deion Sanders, Rickey Jackson, Richard Dent, Gary Plummer, Ken Norton Jr.)

1995 Cowboys (Deion Sanders - a true difference maker FA)

1996 Pack (Reggie White - ditto)

2002 Bucs (Brad Johnson, Simeon Rice, Keenan McCardell, plus Keyshawn Johnson who came in a trade with a huge new contract)

2009 Saints (Brees, Darren Sharper, Jabari Greer)

After that, not many. A bunch of free-agent reliant teams have been pretty damn good, however (the Jets, Arizona a couple of years ago, the Raiders in 2002 [Gannon, Charlie Garner, Jerry Rice, Rod Woodson, Bill Romanowski), the Chiefs the year under Vermeil where they went 13-3, the Broncos with Plummer when they went 13-3, etc.).

It really seems that the Bills are getting left behind by the rest of the AFC East. I get that Buffalo is not always a top choice by any free agent, but at least do something to get everyone excited. I understand the need to fill a roster, and have role players at that, but rummaging through every other teams left overs is not a way to win. Just accept what the team is, blow it up, and start from the beginning.

Nix is just smarter than everybody else. Deal with it. :wallbash:

Oh I don't know. It has taken the Jets pretty much to the AFC Championship the last two years. God, that would totally suck. Those damn NFL playoffs, who would want those?

Yeah, when Brett Favre tanked in the second half of the season in NY and Mangini got canned that team appeared headed to the cellar in 2009. As bad as things looked in Buffalo, it did look like the Bills were at least good enough to possibly field a 9 win team with a couple modest improvements in the offseason. Sign a good coach, a few good free agents and trade up to get the best QB left on the board in round 1 and suddenly the downtrodden Jets are in back to back championship games. The Bills? They traded AWAY their pro bowl left tackle, got rid of their starting RT and RG and their addition by subtraction approach turned their season into a complete fiasco. You don't need to sign everyone out there but you need to always be aggressive with regard to improving your team.

Lot of Salary cap cuts will be happening today. Nix found a few gems last year on the waiver wire. Lets wait and see huh?

Like who? Nix did a great job finding UDFA wide receivers, and a decent job making something happen with junkheap LBs. These aren't diamonds in the rough, they're just marginally lucky breaks.
