... copied and pasted from the web site ..."With the NFL free agent period fast approaching, it's always interesting to take the time and look back at some of the biggest blunders of the

free agency period in the last 20 years. Time and again, teams and the general managers who are responsible for these signings, seem to make the same mistake over and over again. You'll

Didn't read the linked article but I nominate Javon Walker (wiki):

Oakland Raiders

On March 4, 2008, the Oakland Raiders signed Walker to a six-year, $55 million contract that included $16 million in guaranteed money.[3] In November 2008, Walker announced that he'd miss the rest of the season due to injury. For the season, Walker played in eight games, had 15 receptions for 196 yards and one touchdown.

For the 2009 season, Walker played in only three games and had no statistics. He was released on March 8, 2010.

For his two seasons of employment with the Raiders, Walker collected $21 million.

Cool, maybe Redskins or Oak will give Whitner the bucksies he wants

Thing is, a lot of guys on the list sound pretty legit - multi-pro-bowlers, hot players. I'm not sure what the lesson is, really.

Sometimes a FA signing works out, and sometimes it doesn't, esp. if an injury to rehab is involved, perhaps?

david boston...7 years 100 million but only lasted one year in san diego...his agent must be so pissed.

Boston is a good contender but in his one year in San Diego he 70 passes for 880 yards and 7 TDs. He was then traded (along with his contract) to Miami.

Boston still made less money and produced more on the field than did Javon Walker.

Just read it. Such a poor article.

Their criteria seems almost completely arbitrary.

What it should be based upon is EXACTLY how much money the team ended up paying the player and what that player produced in that exact time period.

Again, Javon Walker (who is 8th on their list) had 15 catches for 196 yards in two seasons. He made $21 million over that period.

Brandon Lloyd (who is 1st on their list…worst FA signing ever) had 25 catches for 405 yards over two seasons. And Lloyd almost assuredly made less than $21 million over those two years.

What about Albert Haynesworth to Redskins? I guess he wasn't an FA because obviously that's the worst.

Some Bills FA to consider: Peerless Price to Atlanta, Nate Clements to 9ers, Jay Riermersma (sp?) to Steelers

Definitely Haynesworth is a contender although as improbable as it may be, he could hypothetically return to the Redskins and somewhat justify his contract. So far though, yes.

BTW, I think this article we're chewing on was written two years ago.

We actually traded Peerless Price to Atlanta for a 1st rounder.

Nate Clements has to be considered a huge free agent disappointment for the Niners. Yet he's remained a starter for them so probably not top ten worst, but close.

Riemersma didn't sign a mega-deal to play with Pittsburgh and did play well for them before rupturing his achilles. Our last good tight end.

edit: The Yahoo article is about one year old.
