Why not build it on the edge of the falls???

Recommended Posts

Not all stadium deals are losers. Doing nothing while the Ralph becomes further and further outdated is no answer. Think boldly here.

It's easy to be bold with OPM (Other People's Money).

But you're idea is a real diamond in the rough. LOL Why don't you line up the financing, acquire the land, get necessary goverment approvals and let us know how it turns out.

And what is your solution? To stick your head in the sand and declare that the Ralph is great, while it crumbles around you? LOL. The stadium should be a draw to attract the best players and fans, not a hindrance. Let's get with the program.

My solution is to come up with a realistic business plan. What is your "program" other than to say BE BOLD? When I go to Niagara Falls, I want to see the natural wonder, not some ugly f***ing stadium. I've asked you a number of times, which of the other of the seven wonders of the world has a sports stadium on top of it. You haven't adressed that question, and I'll keep asking it until you do. LOL. Also, someone has to pay for a new stadium regardless of whether it's in Buffalo, Orchard Park, Toronto, or Tulsa, Oklahoma. Who is going to pay for it? If I were a taxpayer, I'd say F-You.

Show us a business plan. How are you going to pay for this stadium, how are you going to get the environmental impact studies to fall your way, how are you going to get taxpayers in New York to pay for yet another white elephant. Don't respond with juvenile platitudes like "get with the program," or "build it and they will come." I want to see some concrete data. If you can't provide that, go f**k yourself. Have a nice day.

Are you sure they don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee? B-)

You are aware, I hope, that the American side of Niagara Falls is not only a state park, and an Olmstead park, but is also the oldest state park in the nation, so there's really no place the put a stadium on 'the edge' of the falls, unless you mean literally on the edge of the falls - in which case, I'm sure Bechtel and the Army Corps of Engineers could figure out a way to build it, but it'd be tough for even us diehard Bills fans to get to the gates...

All excellent points. Not to mention that there is no place on the American side of the Falls to build a stadium that has a good view of the cataracts. Put the stadium away from the immediate proximity of the Falls, and you can't see the Falls, so there is no "view" to look at.

I'm guilty of responding to an idiotic thread, but it's because I can't let this idiotic thread go unanswered. The Falls are truly a wonder of the world, and there's nothing man can do to improve on it.

Thanks for the youtube video my man. Great stuff.

How can we not take advantage of building a grand stadium on the edge of the falls? Sure it wont be easy, but all good things in life come with a little pain. We should do it. The steel spine types in this great region of the country deserve it.

You can't put the stadium right up against the Falls but you can get awfully close. There is empty land next to the Days Inn which is a stone's throw from the Rainbow Bridge. Tear down the Day's Inn and part of downtown and you have a perfect location. Parking? Look at Google Maps just east of the Casino. Acres of empty fields.

There is absolutely PLENTY of room for a stadium complex and parking in the Falls. There are also several roads in and out so arguing the Grand Island bridges will be backed up is not valid. There's River Road, NF Blvd and Route 104 as alternate routes. That's no worse than what you have in OP right now.

There is no question the USA side of the Falls blows, and building a stadium will not solve that entirely. What it will do is create a one-of-a-kind attraction at least 10 weekends a year; even more if you are able to attract large events like a Final Four or Super Bowl. Between the Falls, the casinos, the Canadian attractions, and whatever new attractions you build with the stadium will make that a major destination again.

Great post. The Falls would be a perfect venue and would revive the entire US side in very short order, not to mention creating an atmospher where players actually want to come and suit up.

That is an excellent point. Think about free agents coming to visit the Bills and seeing a retractable roof stadium with attractions all within walking distance. It would improve our image immensely.

I would be there by now, but that stupid Rogers company decided to take a bunch of the Blue Jays channels and stick them on a channel not provided by any carrier available in town here. So I'm hanging at home for a bit listening to it on the radio.

*edit* bunch of the Blue Jays -games-...

Yeah, it's a great idea. Buy the available land, come up with the financing and necessary government approvals, and let's see how it turns out.

The basic idea is a very good idea. A stadium (not right next to the falls) in Niagara Falls would be great. It is a misused, and thoroughly mismanaged, international attraction

No one seems to think I know what I'm talking about, but the big problem is the COUNTY. It doesn't have the juice to wrangle an NFL team away from Erie County, where the real power is based. There is too much money at stake, and too little money in Niagara County to pull it off. It is sparsley populated, and it's run by bumpkins and organized crime ("allegedly", in my best Jim Rome voice). Whatever you think about corruption in Erie County, it is at least "legitimized" crime.

If you can get past the obstacles in the county, you have to deal with the state government. Then you have to figure out how to pay for it. Who's got the $$$$ to pay for a new stadium, because the county and the state don't have the money, or the borrowing power, to pull it off.

My thoughts regarding our stadium situation is to build a state of the art complex on the American side of the mighty Niagara Falls. The era of the Ralph is quickly coming to an end. It's been a heckuva ride, but change is not necessarily a bad thing.

Butt it up next to the falls, give it a retractable roof, with the understanding it stays open for all Bills' games. It would be a wonderful venue in a popular setting, instantly giving the wonderful Niagara area a much needed shot in the arm.

Thoughts?

Niagara-Falls.jpg

It's all relative! I live in the Southtowns so I love the Bills in Orchard Park! Also the Ralph is already paid off and I don't see Ralph Wilson

paying a portion of a billion dollars to build a state of the art stadium. He's got it too cushiony in O.P. for that. It's fine that the Buffalo Bills reside in a stadium that is a suburb of Buffalo, but to me Niagara Falls is it's own seperate entity and should not represent Buffalo!

The Falls is spectacular in it's own right and it doesn't need all the glitter and everything that goes with a state of the art stadium. The American side is somewhat tranquil and nice to visit as it stands. If you want all the cosmopolitan glitter, congestion, and huge towers that is what the Canadian side represents. Except for NFL restrictions I would rather see a new NFL team in Niagara Falls, Canada (and not the Bills of course!) to be on the other side of the Falls. Yes, there would be many arguements against that idea..as the population of the region may not be able to support 2 NFL clubs in such close proximity and it may reduce the Canadians that currently are season ticket holders of the Bills. But, based on just purely football matchups...wouldn't be awesome to have a game between the Buffalo Bills and the Niagara Falls (Canada) Thunder! You think the rivarly between us and the Dolphins is something? This would be huge! Oh well..just thinking out loud..probably wouldn't work?? Pros? Cons? (if it were allowed by the leaugue?) Maybe the distance between franchises shouldn't apply if the location of franchise(s) are not in the same country with another franchise in close proximity?

I know this isn't the topic and I'm too lazy to start a new one...curious for feedback, the good, bad, and ugly! ...lol

You guys are putting the cart before the horse. Seriously guys, who's gonna fund a new stadium ANYWHERE in WNY without a long-term commitment from the Bills? And by long-term I mean similar to the New Jersey Giants 25-year lease with options to 97 years.

And with all the union shake-downs in The Falls, it's take 25 years to build the damned thing there anyway.

Now if you's care to consider something other than total fantasy, there's about 1100 acres of waterfront land just south of downtown Buffalo on a major highway (Route 5) that arguably cannot rehabilitated for any viable use, except possible a football stadium with surrounding parking lots...

(They could even put a few more windmills up and market it as the NFL's first totally 'green' stadium! B-) )

Your logic that just because one of the other seven wonders does not have a stadium next to it somehow means it shouldn't be built in downtow Niagara is so stupid it does not deserve a response.

Where do you live guy? Are you even old enough to vote? LOL.

I always take route 5 coming from Canada to our hotel in Blasdell and have said the same thing for years. Plenty of room there and like you said lots of room for parking and more windmills. Tearing down a few of those eye sores wouldn't hurt either.

Holy crap @ that guy standing on the edge of the falls!

Since no one thinks we can build the stadium in NF, NY I have a NEW idea - we'll build the *ultimate* Rainbow Bridge, complete with a stadium in the middle. Half US, half Canada, all suspended awesomness.

Let's get the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on this STAT!

I do love that Bills fans are so passionate that we argue over hypothetical stadiums. Let's Freaking Go Buffalo!!

Thank you, thank you. I'll be performing on Sunday at Hammer's lot - first show starts at 9, second around 4.

Someone bring me paper and a sharpie and we'll put together a sketch of this (sketchy) stadium. I would add, doesn't "Rainbow Stadium" seem pretty all-inclusive? Yeah, I thought so...

We only get a few to choose from. AND more importantly, the people that really control things aren't necessarily elected. Like real estate developers. Or the Power and Thruway Authority hierarchies.

Lets topple these so the Bills can a have a stadium in Niagara Falls. So worth it!

Would I need to go through Customs to move from the US side to the Canada side on game days? Or would Customs be before entering the stadium, making the stadium a DMZ type area?

The guys in the Falls? I grew up with them. I don't ever want to go there.

Somebody needs to have the cajones to sweep the garbage out of downtown Niagara so the place can climb out of the third world nation like rut it is currently stuck in. To have such a crappy town next to one of the seven wonders is an embarassment.

Sweep out the garbage, bulldoze the Day's Inn and some of the scuzzy joints nearby and build the damn thing. It will instantly spark revitalization. Being timid and saying "it will never work" is not bold...it is cowardly.

Fantastic thought! There is no reason not to take full advantage of such a wonderful backdrop which would attract folks from around the world. We would be the envy of the league. Fact.

Yeah, it's a fact.

I've got another idea, why not put one right next to Old Faithful, too, right in Yelllowstone. It would be gorgeous. That team would be the envy of the league. Fact.

The idea is both impossible and stupid. The whole thing that makes the falls look majestic is that they're large. Put a gigantic ugly hunk of concrete next to it and people would leave saying "Jeez, the Falls didn't look that big at all. You could hide it behind the stadium. You could fill up the whole Canadian Falls with that stadium. It just didn't look as large as I'd imagined.

I'm sure the players would appreciate it too, especially during the winter when the mist from the falls would rise, as it does, and coat the ground, as it does, including the playing field, with a layer of slippery glare ice, as it does. I'm sure that would do wonders for the games. Two or three games a year with the players unable to stand up.

Yeah, this is a great idea. We should put one in the Grand Canyon, too.

It's a great idea to build next to the falls.

With all the hotels, attractions, casinos, tourist traps, what the hell, why not build a stadium there. Why you naysayers think it's going to be an eyesore? IDK! Please just stop already!

Bringing more people to WNY is what it is all about. A new stadium in downtown Buffalo isn't nearly the attraction a new stadium in downtown Niagara Falls would be. The opportunities created and the people attracted would be substantial in Niagara Falls compaired to Buffalo, because of everything else that is there.

You really have to be foolish and naive to NOT think this would be a home run for the economy of WNY, being built by the falls.

Potential Final 4, Super Bowl, college bowl game, etc. That would be a huge economic boost for all of WNY, and hopefully would give tons of incentive to make Niagara Falls, NY a real tourist destination again.

Apparently the knuckleheads who think it would be an eyesore must think downtown Niagara USA looks just swell as is. LOL. Sheesh.

Depending on the design of the stadium it would not be an eyesore, but a marvel. Fact.
