Need some ideas of things to do for two old married couples for a weekend? Any ideas? Couple of things previously mentioned - w/in the Salt City itself... Dinosaur Barbecue - classic Syracuse joint, great food, good music, motorcycle friendly Armory Square - Syracuse version of trendy neighborhood/Rouse development (lots of restaurants/bars/shops/etc.) Nearby... Finger Lakes Wine Trails - Cayuga is closest, Seneca is also well within range and has more wineries (I think) - Napa/Sonoma is ain't, but NYS is turning out some very nice wines these days. The Finger Lakes themselves are quite scenic, and there are many parks showcasing the region's beautiful gorges, waterfalls, etc. Ithaca, NY (about an hour away and home to Cornell University) was an 'early Hollywood', being very close to Rochester (home of Eastman Kodak, an early pioneer of motion picture technology) - some of the early Tarzan movies and Little Rascals short films were made there. And if you like NASCAR, depending on when your trip is scheduled, you can combine the Seneca wine trail with... Peter Griffin Posted July 23, 2010 Share Posted July 23, 2010 In addition to all the other great suggestions 1 - check out http://www.syracuse.com/events/ for last minute ideas 2 - Turning Stone casino is 25 miles east of Syracuse 3 - Green Lakes state park has a really nice walking trail around 2 meromictic lakes created by the retreat of the Laurnetide ice sheet (if you'r into that sort of thing) 3 - Sylvan beach is at the eastern tip of Oneida Lake. Interesting resort town - sort of like a redneck Riveira. Completely opposite of the wine tour scene. 4 Dinosaur and Clarks are good (maybe I am burnt out on those two places) but I'd recommend Empire Brewing Co., Pastabilities, Coppertop Tavern, Alto Cinco's (get the catfish burrito), the Clam Bar .... see -> http://www.cnymenus.com/ for more info Have fun! Never crazy about the food there and the hippie crowd kind of turns me off (nothing against hippies per se, that crowd in particular seems unfriendly). I had a friend who didn't like to go there because he couldn't get a Bud Light.
