Would you trade Nelson and Wood for Peters

  1. 1. After nine games does the trade for Peters seem good or bad

    • Yes I'd trade Wood and Nelson for Peters

    • I'm unsure

    • If it was earlier in the year yes

    • Even if it was earlier in the season I'd say no.

If the trade deadline hadn't passed yet and Philly called Russ and offered Peters for Eric Wood and Shawn Nelson would you want Russ to Get'r done?

Even though the Bills desperately need a tackle I'd still say no. The two players the Bills got are worth more than Peters to me. Wood is a stud and Nelson shows a lot of promise. JMO

Yea but it still doesn't diminish the stupidity of the Bills not trying to find a replacement OT in the draft or free agency. It is the O line that has made this team so horrid offensively and the tackle position to be exact.

They didn't know that Butler would be gone for the season, but I agree they should have had better depth. JMO

The trade isn't finished yet. Most likely it will go like this:

Bills get:

1) Wood

2) Nelson

3) a 6th rounder next draft

Bills give up:

1) Peters

2) a first-round draft pick in the next two years which they use to get a decent LT to replace Peters

The JP ship has sailed.

I agree with rabbit that the Bills should have done more in the off season looking for his replacement.

Thinking they could go into the season with Walker and/or Tinkerbell at that spot was a horrendous mistake.

Indeed.

For what it is worth, by the way, the Philly media are all over Peters for not being willing to play with minor injuries. Howard Eskin (well-respected local reporter and radio guy) refers to him as the "Pillsbury Doughboy," and argues that Peters has lots of talent and no desire, especially now that he has made his big bucks.

How does a guy keep his mind on his job when he's worried about his contract?

Does anyone pay attention to how Peters is playing in Philly?

Sadly, many do. There is a post a week regarding Peters. Some people just like to play the "what if" or "should of, could of, would of" game. A perfect example is all the Orakpo posts, nothinig you can do but B word about it and some here sure can...

Does anyone pay attention to how Peters is playing in Philly? Why would you pay anyone that kind of money for an average player? How many sacks has he given up? How many games has he missed due to injury?

Exactly. Peters is having an average year at best. I heard a report somewhere that he's given up four sacks and has missed what, two games already? I try not to pay attention to it...but it's hard. Look, Langston Walker wasn't up to the task. Fine. Demetrius Bell doesn't appear to be either. In hindsight Oher would have been a good pick at #11 (especially over Maybin who I really think is gonna bust), but paying Peters would not have solved the problem. Ask the Philadelphia faithful.

BTW, that quilt is pretty awesome. You obviously chose your in-laws well.

Thanks for noticing. My wife and in-laws are big into the fabric arts, now my daughter is too. FYI that avatar does not convey how large that quilt really is. A real work of art IMO. I love it.

here's the latest note on Peters

Eagles LT Jason Peters (ankle) put in a full practice Wednesday and will almost certainly start Sunday.

Don't expect any surprise de-activations this time. Peters is taking a lot of heat for being soft and not playing through nicks in practice or games. Peters will protect Donovan McNabb's blind side in a game the Eagles figure to pass the ball at least 65-70 percent of the time.

The truly sad part is while Peters is 'average', he is still better than his replacements.

Yes, Peters has missed 2 games.

Walker, his first replacement, has been cut, never making it to regular season.

Tinkerbell, his second replacement is now gone for the year, and was the most penalized OL this year.

Don't want to pay Peters huge money for average play? Fine.

But you better have a legitimate plan in place to replace him.

When they announced they were going with Walker, I knew then it was going to be a disaster.

That was my fear should the Bills have paid him what he wanted.

I think ultimately, they should have found a replacement.

But for all of his contract squabbles, and hold-outs, the Bills actually got the better end of this deal.

For starters, they were able to obtain both a first round draft pick (used to select Wood) and a later round pick next year. Considering that he was an undrafted college TE which cost the Bills nothing, that is a pretty good return on investment.

Secondly, his contract squabbles were an undermining influence to the team. He had just signed a contract, and before the ink is even dry he then demands a new one, holds out, and really hinders the team with his absence.

Thirdly, the comments made by the Bills that they wanted to get tougher on the offensive line was a reason why Dockery, Preston, and Fowler were released. Giving the number of sacks Peters gave up last year, and his annoyingly selfish contract demands, and with the News now coming out of Philly, could it be that he was one of the weaknesses that the staff was talking of?

Finally, Wood is a stud and perhaps the brightest prospect drafted by the Bills for the offensive line in almost 2 decades.

Howard Eskin (well-respected local reporter and radio guy) .

RJ, where do you get Howard Eskin being respected. The guy golfs alone, no one will play with him. He golfs at Ashbourne and is always a single. I have run into him a dozen or so times, I know of no one who likes that clown.
