  1. How a Democratic Governor and the Mainstream Media Tried to Delegitimize a Civil Rights Rally Before It Even Started. “Northam probably knows more about white supremacy than I do, given his history, but this is starting to get ridiculous.” UPDATE: So I’m wondering: What if Virginians rebelled and overthrew Northam’s government? It’s unlikely, but if they did, federal intervention is also unlikely. There have been two such cases in American history — the Dorr Rebellion in Rhode Island, and the Wilmington Insurrection of 1898, and in both cases the federal government didn’t intervene. To intervene, the president would have to make a declaration under the Insurrection Act, and there’s no obligation that he do so. And the question of which state government is legitimate is, according to the Supreme Court’s decision in Luther v. Borden, political and non-justiciable. Which means that if Northam were to be physically removed from office and a new state government put in in his place — possibly with a new legislature — it would be up to Trump to decide whether to restore the status quo ante, or to recognize the new state government as legitimate. This probably won’t matter, but it’s worth noting, and I doubt very much that Ralph “Coonman” Northam has thought about it at all. byGlenn Reynolds Added: This is the type of historical post where I could count on DCTom to jump in and correct me......? .
  2. we're both from Lewiston so not all that surprising. Similar, happy upbringing I suspect...but I also suspect we are very different people in daily life. Viva la difference! https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/trump-indictment-insurrection-act-co-conspirators-rcna97773 This is truly chilling if unsurprising. The scumbags were planning a coup and violence was/is on the table. Do you see these actions as defensible? reasonable? According to the indictment, Philbin repeatedly discouraged Trump and his loyalists from trying to stay in the White House beyond the end of his term. In December, he allegedly told Trump, “There is no world, there is no option in which you do not leave the White House [o]n January 20th.” Then on the afternoon of Jan. 3, Philbin apparently tried to dissuade “Co-Conspirator 4” from trying to assume the role of acting attorney general as part of a reported bid to overturn the election results with Trump. He allegedly told that person that “there had not been outcome-determinative fraud in the election and that if the Defendant [Trump] remained in office nonetheless, there would be ‘riots in every major city in the United States.’” The indictment alleges that Clark responded, “Well ... that’s why there’s an Insurrection Act.”
  3. Imagine that, Governor. A U.S. president sees uncontrollable vandalism, arson, and looting going on in cities all across America and takes action to stop it. Cuomo points to the dispersing of “peaceful protestors” ahead of Trump’s visit to St. John’s church after “peaceful protestors” tried to burn it down to make his point. He says nothing about the fact that they’d planned to destroy it. Nor does he mention the violence and destruction that’s taken place throughout the country over the last week. Americans are unanimous in their opinion that what happened to George Floyd in police custody was an abomination. Frankly, I’m tired of having to say that. Every conservative has to preface their remarks about the riots by saying that, so we won’t be seen as racist. To hold all Americans responsible for the wrongful act of four Minneapolis police officers is outrageous. Actually, I misspoke. The left is only holding Trump supporters responsible for Floyd’s death. Because liberals are so enlightened and we are so vile and contemptible. ….."Cuomo tells CNN"......now there's a shocker......and our clown of an AG is going to sue him for using a law that was enacted in 1807?....and she's a lawyer?......great...…. "If President Trump were to call on them to help quell riots, he would likely do so under the Insurrection Act, which allows the president to call on the U.S. armed forces to assist in law enforcement in certain circumstances."
  4. Why did they have gun parts? Weren't the convicted seditionists waiting for Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act and make them part of Trumps militia?
  5. ...he can do so under the 1807 Insurrection Act...last President to do so was Eisenhower in 1957......I'm guessing that military and political advisors are fighting hard AGAINST Trump......at the same time, NEVER in my life time did I expect to see a major US city "under siege" as with Seattle......NEVER......as the Mayor and Gub Inslee sit back....
  6. I wonder what Barr told him? Posse Comitatus Act - US military cannot engage on US soil. The Insurrection Act - rebellion suppression. And, all 50 states are still under a state of emergency (I think).
  7. DONALD TRUMP ON THE SEATTLE SECESSIONISTS: Well, that’s how the Insurrection Act works, though if they don’t ask, he has the option of going ahead if things get bad enough. Which, honestly, they probably have.
  8. thank you for the answer. That IS very significant a designation then. Whoa. So its open season on anyone associated with this group in other words. I'll look into the insurrection act. I would think they'd have to have some degree of certainty of someones affiliation before the government being able to legally kill someone..........maybe not. Yikes.
  9. False. Once labeled a terrorist organization, justice served will be under military jurisdiction per the Patriot Act. Military Intelligence has the jurisdiction now to act directly against them on US soil. No civilian court required. Once attributed as enemy combatants, you essentially have no rights and can be killed without due process regardless of where that individual stands on planet Earth. This is all a highly organized insurrection. Also, look up the Insurrection Act.
  10. ....sure sounds to me like current actions of the Feds complies with Insurrection Act of 1807....if not, why not?.......we've gone azz backwards to the 60's.....
  11. Trump says he is mobilizing 'heavily armed' military to stop protests 9 hrs ago In a dramatic escalation of a national crisis, National Guard troops were deployed near the White House Monday evening hours after President Donald Trump said he wanted a military show of force against violent protests gripping the country. Shortly after, Trump came to the White House Rose Garden to call himself the "law and order" president, saying "domestic terrorism" was to blame for the unrest. "As we speak, I am dispatching thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel, and law enforcement officers to stop the rioting, looting, vandalism, assaults, and the wanton destruction of property," he said. "We will end it now." He called on governors to use their National Guard military police units to "dominate the streets" and said he would deploy the active duty military if governors failed to use the National Guard more forcefully. He said he may invoke the 1807 Insurrection Act, which permits a president to deploy military inside the U.S. to deal with civil disorder. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/trump-says-he-is-mobilizing-heavily-armed-military-to-stop-protests/ar-BB14Tw7o?li=BBnb7Kz
  12. the article I posted questioned the legality of he ordering troops before invoking the Insurrection act. Maybe that article is wrong its my source.
  13. Trump To Governors: Either “Dominate” Or Get Out Of The Way Lots and lots of tongue-clucking in the media over this conference-call lecture today, but not a whole lot of recognition that Donald Trump is correct, at least in terms of riot response. In a video conference today, Trump scolded governors around the country for not acting assertively to stop rioting before it spread, with disastrous results across the country. If they didn’t act with strength soon, Trump threatened, he’d be forced to act instead: Reportedly, Trump warned that he would “activate” Attorney General William Barr and even the Joint Chiefs to deal with the situation. Earlier, Sen. Tom Cotton urged Trump to use the Insurrection Act of 1807 to take control of the situation in the worst spots, a move last made in 1992 during the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles. The US Army would make short shrift of Antifa, Cotton argued More at the link: https://hotair.com/archives/ed-morrissey/2020/06/01/trump-governors-either-dominate-get-way/
