i dont think you are getting. At the time, the decision to sit Tyrod was completely over Lynn's head. The Bills (ownership and FO) have seemingly already made the decision to move from Taylor. It's non-negotiable, despite what anyone is saying. So they are absolutely not going to let the INTERIM head coach make a decision that could potentially affect the franchise for years down the road because said INTERIM head coach thinks its the right thing to do in order to win a meaningless season finale. 2 starting QBs went down with serious, long term leg injuries just the previous week. If Anthony Lynn does not understand that "business decision," then he is either too ignorant or not intelligent enough to be a HC. So if he reacts in a negative way towards the decision to sit Taylor after taking into account the context of the situation, it should be their decision very easy.

No. Lynn hasn't been involved in any conversations regarding personnel(upcoming FAs/possible draft targets/vision of team in future). If the new coach has a hand in the future of the franchise and is not just tasked with winning the next game on the schedule regardless of its overall importance, it's a good thing. Then, you don't get things like Marrone playing Orton in a meaningless game in NE or Ryan trying to play a hurt Sammy Watkins to start the year and getting him hurt even more in a walkthrough.

They don't want to tell the coach who to play. But I think they also want the coach to make the proper decisions for the good of the organization, not simply for the good of winning the next game, especially when that game is meaningless in the overall progress of the team. This, coupled with the news that they want the coach to have more organizational power, tells me they are looking for a coach to have more aptitude towards organizational management. IMO this is a good thing.

Remember when Brian Brohm was the surefire 1st overall pick. Or Matt Leinhart. Or Matt Barkley. Can't plan for two years from now.

And this is exactly why Rex was fired. They were paying him 5.5 million for his defense and for him to run it. Not for him to just be the HC and let someone else run the defense. I think Rob is probably still a good position coach but as a game day play caller and strategist, his record speaks for itself.

Schefter says decision is made - Tyrod is gone

You do realize that none of the QBs that you mentioned played on the same respective teams, right? It kind of buries the point that you were trying to make. -

Schefter says decision is made - Tyrod is gone

I agree. I think they decided on both Rex and Lynn at the beginning of the season or at least had this scenario in mind after game 2. I think it should be obvious now that Rex and Tyrod were connected together. These are all of the offensive influences in Anthony Lynn's career before Greg Roman: Mike Shanahan Marc Trestman Gary Kubiak Bill Musgrave Sean Payton Todd Haley Rob Chudzinski Brian Schottenheimer Marty Morningweg They all believe in a precision timing offense. I would guess that Lynn also does. I would guess that he doesn't think Taylor could run an offense like that. But there is a guy in the draft who is perfectly suited to: Brad Kaaya. Him plus a vet UFA like Nick Foles are probably in the plans if Lynn takes over. -
ALynn being interviewed today...
BrooklynBills replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Except no one questioned Russell Wilson's ability to read defenses, anticipate throws, or run an offense in college. They literally just questioned his height and if a player of his size could play QB in the NFL. -
By all accounts, Whaley is under contract for the next 3 years. I think details of expectations and Whaley's job security would be ironed out during interview process. Retaining Whaley means that they like the roster at this time. But I think what Polian means is that taking this job means that you need to hit the ground running with this team or it could mean everyone is fired and you are a 1-and-done coach. There is a very real similar scenario that coaches can look to in the recent past that would make anyone nervous about this job and that is what happened in Miami after Nick Saban quit. The Dolphins had a disappointing season but faced a somewhat unexpected coaching search with a GM that was previously not the main decision maker in the franchise in Randy Mueller. They hired Cam Cameron, they went 1-15, ownership brought in Bill Parcells as a consultant, and everyone was fired. In fact, this era in Dolphins front office history is so very similar to this era in Bills front office history. When Saban quit, they did not have anyone in the building that they trusted to lead the organization. Dan Marino and Don Shula had team roles during the coaching search which included Mike Tomlin, Ron Rivera, and Pete Carroll. They interviewed 12 people. Wayne Huzienga, their team President, and the team CEO lead the search with input from Dan Marino(this is after his extremely short run as a FO exec) and Don Shula. They eventually blew it up and brought in a consultant. People from afar can see that happening here. Maybe it won't happen here. You don't know for sure. Maybe Whaley and Monos are really great at being team architects and find the right guy for the Bills. Maybe they've stumbled on a great find in Anthony Lynn. Maybe it all works out. I don't know, but that's a lot of maybes. Most likely though, we are here doing this again in a year or two with a new FO.

Skins fire entire defensive staff
BrooklynBills replied to VABills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Rex goes to TV for 2-3 years and either becomes a huge hit and outgrows the need to go back to the NFL or has a renaissance as a premier DC in the league for a few years. -

Rebuild Job or Not?
BrooklynBills replied to D. L. Hot-Flamethrower's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Defensive retooling. Long term Offensive rebuild. But we are not at expansion level as some here would think. Keep Kromer at OL coach and make him fixture regardless of who we bring in to run offense. -
Coach search has come (again) who is the best fit?
BrooklynBills replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
None of those things you mention really make me think that Swinney would transition better to the NFL than Shaw. I don't care about their "big game" record, or even that Clemson is in the title game again. I think Shaw's demeanor, coaching style, and NFL connections would make him a great NFL coach. -

He's great in college because he is one of the best recruiters in the nation. I agree that he's a guy players could potentially rally behind but IMO his best asset as a coach would be nullified in the NFL. I think he would be over his head with regards to building a staff and game planning. If we are talking college coaches, I think there only a few guys that I'm really interested in and they aren't leaving: Jim Harbaugh Nick Saban David Shaw David Shaw would be a great NFL coach. Good motivator. Great Xs and Os offense. History of developing some good to great players. Access to both Harbaugh's coaching network, which is extensive. Access to ex-Ravens, ex-Eagles, ex-49ers personnel department. IMO, he'd be the next great guy to jump to the NFL and lead a whole organization, top to bottom. -
Bills Hire Sean McDermott as New Head Coach

I would not read too much into where the interviews are taking place. -
Pepper Johnson played OLB in NFL. Coached OLBs/DEs in NE. Coached 43 D-Line here. All of the Jets D-Linemen are 300 lb-ers. Jets have talent on defense but their defensive roster is odd.

Both Pats coaches are being interviewed by every team except us it seems. Same with Shanahan. -
GM Doug Whaley's end of season press conference
BrooklynBills replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. More like: if you don't talk to me, I'll be forced to use what little info I have to go to build a story. It's always better to have open dialogue with the media. The problem here is that the teams have been bad for a while or made decisions which were rightly criticized in the media and the teams took their ball and went home. They didn't want to take responsibility for their failures in the press. -
Gotta be a typo. He surely means offensive staff. Right?

AP John Wawrow interview with Terry Pegula
BrooklynBills replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They are being criticized because they are handling this situation very poorly and because there is a glaring lack of transparency regarding who makes decisions, organizational structure, and team vision. With regards to him talking to Wawrow: It was a week after they had fired Ryan, allowing them the time to craft their own story as to how everything went down. They are not getting ripped on a local level. They are being criticized nationally.
