It doesn't matter what was meant, what matters is what was perceived. And many people perceived it to be a racist comment due to the history of comparing blacks to monkeys. It was a lack of sensitivity and/or knowledge of history by the editors of the Post to not be smart enough to recognize the uproar it would cause. As a white person I am in no position to tell blacks what should or shouldn't offend them, and neither are you if you're not black.

Lets discuss the Obama Stimulus
PastaJoe replied to drinkTHEkoolaid's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Too bad Bush and the Repubs didn't believe your opinion about throwing money around. Why did the Democrats win so many seats? Because most that switched were moderate Repubs in moderate districts that had similar views on many issues as Dems, but blindly supported Bush's policies when it came time to vote. They put party ahead of good policy. So voters rejected them for supporting Bush's failed policies, and are unlikely to switch back again. Fool me once, shame on you... The remaining Repubs are in more conservative districts, and unless and until the Repubs change their positions on trickle down economics and social restrictions on individual rights, they will continue to become a regionalized party. Maybe Hip-Hop Steele will help change their positions, but I doubt it. -
You mean like Reagan was when the Soviet Union collapsed from its internal policies.

Jim Braxton was the best. A fullback capable of rushing for over 100 yards and a great blocker.

So you agree that the cartoon was out of line and racial? And they don't want to destroy anyone, just hold them accountable for their actions. They should have apologized at the start, instead of waiting until they felt they had to do damage control. One thing that I haven't seen reported much that puts the cartoon in a different context is that on the opposite page of the Post cartoon was a story about "Obama's stimulus program". In light of that, it's easier to understand why people would think the cartoon was referencing Obama.

It wasn't the Democrats that supported cutting taxes while fighting two wars which weren't included in the budget, that was Bush and the then-Republican majority. And the Republicans want to still continue that failed budget policy. I gave you the benefit of the doubt and assumed the ridiculous statements must have come from the right wing talking heads, not from someone you knew. Sorry. -
Conan O'brien's NU Set? I thought Bush and Cheney took care of this. Wasn't Iraq supposed to show the world what would happen if someone just talked about having WMD? This is like moving into an apartment, and every closet door you open reveals another mess the old tenants left.

Holder could be president tomorrow. WASHINGTON (CNN) — Attorney General Eric Holder will be the cabinet member not attending President Obama’s speech tonight to Congress in the House chamber for security reasons, a Justice Department official tells CNN. The official said Holder will be staying at an undisclosed location. By tradition, one cabinet member does not attend such speeches in case of disaster, since so many other government leaders are vulnerable in one place. Customarily, the absent official is a member of the national security team.

The first thing I thought of when they cut it out was, since it's covered with blood, wouldn't they put it in a bag or wear gloves? Jack handles it and then gives it to an agent. Who's the Vice President? I don't recall seeing him. Could it be Jon Voigt?

If people are objective and vote based on what happened on the field, he would win. Would he be invited to attend if he wins? I expect that Thurman will win because alot of voters will judge OJ based on his off field activity.

What that 'someone' Rush or Hannity? Democrats driving this country into the ground? That's like the Republican driver blaming the Democrat tow truck driver because it's taking longer and costing more to get their Mercedes out of the ditch they drove it into, because they're in a hurry to get right back on the road so they can continue to drive recklessly. You mean the irresponsible people who cut taxes while fighting two wars which weren't included in the budget, and then voted for large increases in federal spending? Those irresponsible people? Bush and the Republican majority? -
I heard they already made the patch for the 15th anniversary of the last time they made the playoffs, and they brought Dick back to make sure they don't have to throw them out before the anniversary happens.

The rumor is that the ending of the movie will be different than the ending of the novel.

Taylor is also visiting New England. Maybe the Patriots told him to go to Buffalo first, then come to New England and compare the coaches, players, and who's closer to another Super Bowl.
-
That's a dumb statement, because most of the country supported Bush after 9/11 and the invasion of Afganistan. But then he blew it with Iraq. The tribute to the supporting actresses with the former winners onstage was a nice touch.

Adam Mair would be fighting Neil in the locker room. He can't stand him.

It's obviously going to affect your relationship, so I say be honest with him next time you talk. Tell him that you were disappointed to hear he was working for them, and that you feel like you and his other former co-workers are being disrespected by his decision. Then let him explain himself. Better to get it out in the open than let it simmer and continue to bother you. Maybe after discussing it you'll feel better.

Anyone Familiar with Adventistism?

Don't you have any other options? Is it due to location or cost? Maybe you can find some parents like yourself who aren't part of that tribe but sent their kids there, to get an objective view. I'd be cautious about sending impressionable kids into a setting that may try to indoctrinate them into their religious beliefs. -
LAMP--going to my first hockey game tonight

Connelly should have been benched for his lazy play that resulted in the shorthanded goal. He was right with the Flyer at our blue line, and instead of moving his feet, he glided into the zone while the Flyer went to the net and deflected the pass in. All he had to do was keep skating and lift the Flyer's stick. And the lack of coverage in front of our net is ridiculous. -

Would you want to tackle a guy who said to another fighter, "I'm gonna @#$% you until you love me!"? -
QB is not a priority issue, he just needs players around him. He's shown when he has protection and WRs open, he can make the plays. The team would be in better shape with a stronger pass rush, a complimentary WR and TE to Evans, a more consistant offensive line, and better coaching, then a change at QB.

What they don't seem to understand is that God is punishing America with their own presence.
