Did anyone see the story on Planned Pernthood
PastaJoe replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'm trying to hide that they offer abortions? I just said it's not the service they promote the most, it's opponents who say that. 95% of their services are other than abortions. And I would expect that service to cost more, as it is probably the most complicated medical procedure they offer. That doesn't mean they use it as a money maker. -

I would agree if they were the ones promoting it as their primary service, but they don't. They primarily promote women's reproductive healthcare. It's those that are opposed to the abortion service they provide that have made it so well known. -
1 QB: Brett Favre @San Franciso 2 RB's: Thomas Jones @ San Francisco Michael Turner @ New Orleans 2 WR's: Greg Jennings vs Houston Lance Moore vs Atlanta I would expect alot of points from the Jets vs SF, unlike Buffalo they know how to play in the red zone. Turner is a definite play against a weak NO D. Jennings is the go-to guy in GB, and Moore has been good for at least a TD in the last few games.

Nice anti-abortion spin, but you were less than honest about the story... http://abcnews.go.com/WN/story?id=6384543&page=1 This holiday season, Indiana's Planned Parenthood is offering an unusual stocking stuffer: gift certificates redeemable for health services at clinics throughout the state. Critics paint Planned Parenthood gift certificates as abortion vouchers. In these tough economic times, the organization says it made the move toward gift certificates because it is worried that more and more people will forgo basic health care. "Women in particular are likely to forgo basic medical needs when faced with putting gas in their car or food on the table," said Planned Parenthood of Indiana's president and CEO, Betty Cockrum. Planned Parenthood provides contraception, pap smears and other routine health services for women, as well as abortions. The gift certificates, ranging in values from $25 to $100, can be redeemed for all clinic services. The Indiana branch is selling the gift certificates on its Web site, touting it as a way to give the gift of health this holiday season. But the vouchers are sparking controversy. Some anti-abortion supporters see it as less about the gift of affordable health care and more about making a mockery of the holidays. "This campaign to offer lethal gift certificates that Planned Parenthood is engaging in right now is offensive," said Sister Diane Carollo, director of the Office for Pro-Life Ministry for the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis. "And it's offensive because Christmas is about the celebration of human life." Planned Parenthood is quick to argue some 95 percent of women who come to their clinics come for basic health services -- not abortion. "It's about basic health care. It's about annual exams, it's about pap smears, it's about birth control," said Cockrum. "I would be amazed if a dime of it goes toward an abortion." -

I guess you missed the part about experienced people willing to enact changing policies. -

How is it inexcusable? Gates will work for Obama, and Obama sets the policy. If Gates couldn't agree to carry out Obama's policies then he wouldn't have accepted. It's a reasonable transition given our troop deployments. He'll stay on for about a year, and then the deputy sec. of defense appointed by Obama will take over. Change in policy doesn't require new people without experience, but requires experienced people willing to enact changing policies. -
No game on TV for Syracuse this week....
PastaJoe replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I expected FOX to show the Giants instead of the Bills in Syracuse. We still get the Bills on the radio. I'm wondering what the tipping point is going to be for the local CBS station to show the winning Jets instead of the slumping Bills. -
Obama makes a point when he speaks to say we only have one president at a time, but he is trying to reassure the public that his administration will be ready to go to work on day 1, and are already formulating policies. With the support of Congress, he may go from the inauguration to signing a stimulus package. Your suggestion that people being anxious for an involved leader to take office equates to trying to trash the Constitution is a stretch.

I try to give anyone parking in handicap the benefit of the doubt, because they might have a not obvious affliction. But what really bothers me is when I'm grocery shopping and I see some of the fattening food obese people are buying, and especially when they have overweight kids. Seeing them in Chinese buffets also bothers me. At least make an effort to improve.

Although I have a Chrysler, I always question why can't American manufacturers give the same 10 year, 100k warranty like Hyundai does if they're just as reliable. By the way, the company I work at makes engine gaskets, and we're a couple months away from probably closing. The company can't get any more credit and it's cash flow is almost gone.

Recent previous transitions didn't occur in such dire straits, so there hasn't been a need to reassure the public and financial markets like there is now. Perhaps if Bush was more involved and decisive, Obama wouldn't need to take such action. But since Bush has checked out, somebody has to show there are steps being taken to improve the situation in the near future. The title is correct, anyone talking at the podium is part of the Office of the President Elect.

The people or surrogates petition the White House, and they have to present a convincing case as to why they have been inprisoned wrongly, too long, or are deserving of an early release. I'm sure we'll see the more political ones like Libby in the last days. I read that the White House is trying to find a way to grant pre-emptive blanket pardons for anyone involved in the illegal wiretapping of Americans in the U.S., or those involved in torture.

If they want to make it interesting it should become Hannity & Sharpton.

If McNabb doesn't start on Thursday, then he's done in Philly. I think they should still start him as long as they have a chance of making the playoffs, otherwise Reid will piss off the veterans. McNabb is probably done in Philly anyways, since his salary cap number for next year is over $10 million. It's time for Reid to go too.

It depends on what you're planning on shaving.

I'd play Gore and Johnson. Both are going to get alot of touches, while Miami spreads the ball around to too many players.

You would rather a new president came in and promised to create more unemployment? Part of the role of a new president is to use the bully pulpit to instill confidence and hope. Nobody listens to Bush anymore because he lost credibility years ago.

OK, Hillary is Secretary of State
PastaJoe replied to BillsNYC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I didn't say she deserved it, but the fact is that she has the experience and qualifications to be Senator. Rep. Slaughter could be an interim appointment and then someone else like Cuomo could run in 2010. The Buffalo mayor is also a possiblity. -

Funny how people who didn't vote for Obama are the one's making the most noise about this not being the change they voted for. Perhaps it's as simple as Obama wanting to fill his cabinet with the most knowledgable people who don't have to be micromanaged because we have so many problems that need solving at the same time. Obama's first priority is to work on the economy, he can trust Hillary has the knowledge and skill to work the details on foreign policy after he sets the strategic objectives.

The best choice...Bill Clinton. The logical choice...Rep. Nita Lowrey. She was planning on running in 2000, but stepped aside to let Hillary run.
