  1. I know, right? I tried to say as much, but Tom seems to think our nation's linoleum crisis is nothing to worry about. Tell that to your sister when she sees how ineffective Twix bars are as bathroom flooring.
  2. I'm not making a comparison between the two - they're not the same at all. That would be like saying that me, an idiot, is the same thing as you, a moron.
  3. Two things come to mind right away: 1) The excess in spending by congress, piling deficit upon deficit every year upon an already excessive national debt. 2) The lack of quality, affordable linoleum and formica products for working class households across the lower 48.
  4. How giant? How's this..... Brea
  5. Starting new threads as personal attacks? Hell yeah, I'm all for it! Just imagine - if we all had our own threads dedicated to telling what gigantic pieces of $%#@ we are, then the topical threads might be a lot less cluttered with the usual derogatory & disparaging comments. Nobody would have to quote gator, baskin, gary, that newbie fool - the bug, or any of the rest. We could just stop by their respective idiot threads to berate them, keeping the routine discourse clean of all those inane quotes that the rest of us don't want to see. We could even give row_33 his own thread so he can boost his post count without tossing all those "what the hell are you talking about" one-sentence replies into every damned conversation anyone is trying to have. Also, I'm not really sure why, but I feel a need to add an enthusiastic 3.5 to the conversation, so.... 3.5
  6. I'd be lying if I said that hadn't occurred to me as well.
  7. Surfing the television news outlets, my big takeaway is that there are a lot of people in the press that don't like Trump's use of the phrase "mission accomplished".
  8. Man, when you step in it you don't %$#@ around. The only established musician of the bunch when the "band" was formed was Nesmith. Tork could play, but the only music he actually played on was that which was written and produced by Nesmith. I saw them live in 1968. Tork was no longer with the band. Nesmith was the only one of the remaining three that actually played his instrument. He nailed "Pleasant Valley Sunday" front to back.
  9. I remember two teacher strikes growing up - one in 8th grade at Casey Middle that lasted about a day, and one at Bishop Neumann that lasted two weeks.
  10. %&#$@#$&%$%#$@#$%$$%&!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. What was so difficult to understand? Snafu's post makes perfect sense. I think you give them too much credit. I think people who believe that way are intellectually disconnected from both logic and reality. To quote the Cisco Kid: "You know - morons!"
  12. So you have a "duh button" too, I see.
  13. Perhaps context will better illuminate: I had recorded the show while out enjoying margaritas. Upon returning home I cued up the recording and dug into a pile of smoked pork ribs. It seemed like I was wiping grease from my hands every 2 minutes just to forward through all the ads. But there probably IS a "duh button" on my remote, if the choice of shows on at any given time is any indication.
  14. No, that is not what I said. Read my response again. I disagree wholeheartedly. That's a presumption on your part, and one with which I do not agree. I never said that was a better way. I only pointed out that some people believe that drawing up districts in a manner that gives greater voice to the needs of ethnic minorities is a good thing. Calling support for repealing the 17th "giving up voting power" is nonsense. It's calling for the return to voting procedures laid out by the founders - hardly a radical opinion to hold.
  15. No offense, but DUH! I only said that there were a lot of commercials, not that I sat through them all.
  16. Okay then, I do not agree with your assessment that a greater number of representatives equals "better" representation. Maybe it does on paper, but the reality would seem to me to do nothing but increase the number of self-serving partisans in the legislative body with the lowest approval rating. I simply do not believe that in this case more equals better. With regard to repealing the 17th, I'm on the fence. The state legislatures were supposed to elect their senators, but too many states failed to do so in a timely fashion, so that responsibility was handed over to the voting public. In my opinion, the interests of each state are probably better served by those selected to do so by state agents, but that's probably debatable as well. But again, you brought up Gerrymandering, so I asked you if you believe it to be a bad thing to redraw districts to better serve minority communities.
  17. I DVR'd it. FF through commercials. See? I'm 2018. FF still a bite.
  18. When you record a TV show, do you not still get the commercials?
  19. You've already established that's how you feel. That's not what I was talking about.
  20. No, gerrymandering is not how congress holds onto power, it's how the respective parties either maintain or contrive to gain control in a given district or state. And there are many reasons for drawing the districts as they are, both good and bad. Is it a bad thing to draw up a district in such a fashion as to give greater political clout to minority populations? What exactly would be your idea of what a proper congressional district look like?
