Bills bring in Michael Huff for private workout
Fezmid replied to Ozymandius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or they make teams THINK that they're interested in a player, so that other teams jump ahead and grab him. CW -
That wasn't the only reason -- he listed other reasons (strike, steroids, etc), that was just another straw on the camel's back. I'm a huge BIlls fan myself, but I'm getting sick of the whole "money" aspect of the game as well. Just play. I don't want to hear about stadiums, revenue sharing, money over cap, etc. If I was interested in these things, I'd read the Wall Street Journal. And I'd say that, because of all of these things (in addition to the EXTREMELY negative attitude most threads on here have), I don't follow the Bills as closely as I did just a few years ago. It's natural. CW

That's probably why he said the talk of the Pirates moving out of Pittsburgh. Just like the talk of the Bills moving out of Buffalo is pretty irritating. CW

Not sure myself, but this whole flex scheduling thing concerns me. It's great for television, but what about fans who make plans to go to games? I could easily see them getting screwed... CW

Very well. Carry on.

Guys, it's mini-camp. Veterans fail to show to these things all the time. Don't we have better things to worry about?

is it Legal to steal someones internet signal?

They actually make wallpaper that blocks radio waves. It was pretty expensive though. It'd be much better to simply ENCRYPT YOUR SIGNAL. CW -

So you find a $100 bill in your yard, you just let it blow away? It's not yours, so you must. Next time you drive down the street and hear someone's car radio, you better plug your ears -- you're "stealing" their radio signal and they don't want you listening to it. Heck, if I'm talking to someone and you're near me, you better not listen because I don't want you stelaing my sound waves. They're meant only for the person I'm talking to. I'm glad your world is black and white. Mine has many shades of gray. EDIT: Keep in mind that we're discussing the legality because the topic of the thread is whether it's LEGAL or not. This isn't a morality question. And even if it were, morals aren't black and white for most people either. CW -

Satellite signals are encrypted. If DirecTV or Dish broadcast their signal unencrypted, I'd say I'm free to use it as well. But guess what, they don't. Encrypt your wireless, and you'd have a leg to stand on. CW -
One quick way to make team financially more viable

Can't happen - the league doesn't allow publically owned teams. The Packers are grandfathered in. CW -

Definately agree here -- the person using the unsecured connection isn't "stealing." The person who pays for the ISP is probably violating the TOS -- but then again, in my original TOS with Comcast, I was supposed to pay Comcast a monthly fee to have multiple computers connected at once, which is ridiculous (and never enforced, as far as I know). I don't understand how some people in this thread can make this so black and white. "It's stealing, plain and simple," even when we're throwing up counter arguments and articles being linked to are showing experts saying it's very murky as well. Boggles the mind. Fun debate though (IMHO) CW -

If you read the whole thread, it's not "Bingo." It's still VERY VERY murky as to whether anything is being "stolen," or a crime is being committed. CW -

Except that "stealing" generally means "I take something from someone, depriving them of their use of the item," which isn't happening with a wireless signal. Along a similar line, downloading music/movies off the internet is NOT stealing -- it's copyright infringement. There's a huge difference (both in terminology and in the legal punishment. Steal a dozen CDs from Best Buy, get a slap on the wrist. Download a dozen albums, and face tens of thousands of dollars worth of penalties. Go figure.... ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowling_v._United_States (and no, I don't condone copyright infringement; but I'd have no problem using an unsecured wireless signal, although I havn't actually had a need to). See, it's not quite that simple. Your bike analgy doesn't work at all -- because you still have full use of your internet access if I'm using it at the same time. If I take your bike, you have no bike. Let me explain how networking works. Your internet access would slow down the exact same amount if I was using my own internet connection as if I was using yours (assuming you had a cable broadband, and not DSL). Cable internet is a shared medium and you're using the same network as everyone in your neighborhood. In fact, without a firewall, people in your neighborhood can browse your files (this has been disabled by default in Windows nowadays, but it used to be very easy to do). So that argument doesn't hold water either. As for comparing it to "sharing music," NG, they're nowhere near the same. The only reason "sharing" music is illegal is due to breaking copyright. There's no copyright on a broadband connection, so you're comparing apples to oranges. People should be reading AJ's comment. If you leave your window open, and then get naked in front of it, am I breaking the law by looking at you from the street? No. Use some curtains if you don't want anyone looking. Turn on encryption if you don't want anyone using your connection. Now using an amplified antenna to snag a signal may be a different matter (that'd be equivelent to using binoculars to look into someone's house; not sure the legality of that). But show me someone who has been convicted of using an unsecured wireless connection. I'd think it'd be nearly impossible to prosecute in the US. CW -
We went to England and LOVED it. Not a typical "honeymoon" spot. If you want the special place to stay (and have some money...), HIGHLY recommend Amberley Castle: http://www.amberleycastle.co.uk/ Warning though - it's roughly $500/night (but includes everything, including a 7 course dinner which is awesome). If you want to cruise, I can recommend Celebrity - specifically the Mercury (we went to Alaska on that ship in '04 and it was great). We're going on RCL this May across the Pacific to Hawaii, and I exepct that will be fun as well. http://www.cruisecritic.com is a good reference if you're thinking of cruising. CW

If I use your wireless internet, I'm not using any of those things. All I'm using is your bandwidth, of which you probably aren't using 95% of it anyway. (cable is generally around 6000kbps. Most websites only download at about 300kbs at most). The users who are doing more than that are probably the ones who are securing their routers. CW -

Fezmid replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, again if you read the article you posted, everyone (except some cop in CA) said that it's VERY murky and that no, there really IS no definitive answer. Define hacking. Am I "hacking" everytime I turn my radio on? Because that's all you do to use an unencrypted wireless signal. I'm pretty sure the law doesn't even use the word "hacking" in it, because it actually has NOTHING to do with breaking into computers... The media has twisted it. The term for people who break into computers is "crackers." CW -

Did you actually READ the article you linked to....? The only person in the article saying it's illegal is some cop in the "Internet crimes against children" unit. I'd hardly call that an authoritative answer, especially compared to the other people, such as the DoJ spokeswoman. In addition (and the article touches on it), lots of places give free WiFi access. How am I supposed to know if it's a legit one or not, considering there's no authentication needed? It's not like you do anything other than fire up your laptop, click "go onto the internet" and bam, you're done (assuming it's unsecured). CW -

Yeah, what's your point? You pay it, and if you broadcast your signal to the world, you won't even know that someone is using it. You know what I meant, but I'm humoring you anyway. CW
