  1. http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/12/11/nfl-g...no-commercials/ Cool idea.
  2. I still think it's worth it. If everyone just ignored the scammers, then they'll just take advantage of someone else. At least this might make some of 'em think twice.
  3. It's not harassment to simply ask for your money back and state that you're going to bring it to small claims court. Don't say anything to the guy ahead of time, but if you do take him to small claims court, lawyers are NOT allowed. When I took my landlord to court, he had his lawyer there and I informed the judge that he wasn't allowed the talk. The lawyer tried claiming that he owned the building, judge allowed that, until I interrupted again and said that I had never heard of this guy before and had always sent all rent checks to the actual landlord's address. At that point the judge got pissed at the lawyer and basically told him to shut up and sit down. It was glorious.
  4. Nothing -- if he wins in small claims court. And it only costs about $20 to file. Yes, you'll need his address, but that's it. Filing in small claims court is really easy too. Just go down, fill out a sheet of paper, and get a court date. If he doesn't show, you win. If he does, the judge hears the case (think "People's Court" - very similar) and makes a decision (usually not that day - you hear the result in the mail). I'd send an email and see what happens. Getting a statement from the installer who said it was fried is a great idea too, in case it goes to court so you can give that to the judge. I've been to small claims court once (landlord didn't return a security deposit -- I've posted the story here before) -- it's actually kinda fun when you know that you're 100% right.
  5. From what I hear, good ol' Ralph could kick your ass in a tennis match. Doesn't he play all the time against his wife, who is on the seniors tour? I seem to recall reading that a year or two ago.
  6. Ummm, the Bills aren't out of the playoffs (technically) and Ellis is on IR.
  7. Kirk's not much better than Janeway... Odo > Kirk
  8. Sisko > Archer > Picard > Kirk > Janeway
  9. You don't like Death Magnetic...? While not my favorite Metallica album, I do enjoy it.
  10. That'd be a great theory, except for the fact that people at the games have said that they've seen wide open receivers a lot during the games, Edwards just isn't seeing them (probably due to confidence).
  11. Geez Tom, that sucks! You'll land on your feet, but it doesn't make things any easier.

  13. Not that there's ever a non-crappy time.... I just heard that a company I used to work for has said that, in order to avoid more layoffs, they're cutting everyone's salary by 10%, eliminating the 4% 401(k) match and also the 3% yearly 401(k) bonus. Sounds like they're banking on the fact that there are no other companies hiring (which doesn't appear true in this area, from my research) or that people will think "Glad to at least have a job." Not sure if that's really the right thing to do.
  14. Sportsbook.com has the game as a toss-up -- 0 points to both sides.
  15. Well I guess I meant how to improve on that photo in particular.
  16. Nope - the only thing I did was crop and apply an unsharp mask. Didn't mess with the colors at all. I did play with the levels a bit, but ended up liking the original better, so left it alone. Any pointers for me to improve in the future?
  17. Maybe it's because they only took cash
  18. I don't think they'll be able to get an injunction or anything. They're part of the NFLPA -- and since they went through the process and the appeal and still lost, I don't think a lawsuit will help. Take your suspension and get ready for the playoffs.
  19. I think it's a WNY thing -- never found a restaurant (or store...) that doesn't take plastic in Minnesota. Heck, even half of the shops at the local craft fair my wife went to took credit.
  20. Looks like it's on hiatus until January: http://www.tv.com/life-on-mars/show/69238/..._clk=episodessh
  21. You can still use filters, but I've found it's easier to just apply the filter in Paint Shop Pro (or Photoshop) after the fact. If you're still using film, and know how the filters work, then there's nothing stopping you from using them. I still use them from time to time with my camcorder. And you can shoot B&W with most (all?) digital cameras -- but again, it usually makes more sense to photograph in color and then just remove the color in software. As for mini-tripods -- thanks for the links, Cincy & Dean. Do those really work pretty well? In particular, I've seen the one that Dean linked to -- but I always just assumed it was a crappy gadget that didn't really work well. Am I mistaken?
  22. You'd be surprised... We had a neighbor tell us we should take down a snowman decoration in the rockbed of our house in February. We weren't even turning it on at that time, we just didn't want to be outside taking down decorations in -20F temperatures (-50F windchills). Crazy.
  23. They play Detroit next week.....
  24. If you find a link to what you're talking about, I'd like to see it. I can't picture what it is or how it works... But if it fits in a camera bag, it might be something to add to my kit!
