We'll see. I hope he's wrong. I want to do what Seattle did. They brought back the previous years starter, Tarvaris Jackson who played OK the 2 years before but not great. They signed Matt Flynn. They drafted Russell Wilson. They went with the best of the three. Or the Vikings. They had Teddy. He got hurt they traded for Bradford. Then they signed Case. Any of their 3 QBs could start on most teams including ours. Why do we want to put all our QB eggs in one basket? -

Except we already did. Hotrod came back in for the second half, and then we won 3 out of the next 4. Exactly why can't one come back from that? -
Top two NFL QBs in salary, did not make the playoffs

Right you are. It's like sitting around the cracker barrel arguing about who was a better hitter, Mickey Mantle or Barry Bonds. Fun, I guess for some, but totally meaningless. -

I'm not the one that said if a QB wins the SB he is a "franchise QB". See how silly this is. -

Do you think any of this has to do with the kind of offense each plays in and their coaches philosophy and the plays being called? McVay (who I swear looks like a boy band singer) is very pass oriented with a good QB. Our team has been run first and play good D (at least that's the idea) in part because we don't have a QB that can run McVay's offense. Or WRs for that matter. -

That's what I said. But bottom line, "franchise QB" is a guy I like. It's a vague term with no criteria besides I say he is or I say he isn't. It's silly. You say guys that have won SBs are. What about Trent Dilfer and Jeff Hostettler and Brad Johnson? Are they "franchise QBs"? The whole concept is silly IMHO. Oh, and no QB can carry the whole team on his back to wins when he is surrounded by bad players and coaches. NO QB! -

My point is this nonsense that if you get the right QB you can have a crappy team at all other positions and the team will win anyway. It's BS. You need a good team and coach whether you have a "franchise QB" or not to make the playoffs. Fish made it last year with Fannyhill and Matt Moore for example. Vikings made it this year with Case Keenum. Saints missed last year with Drew Brees. Phillip Rivers has missed playoffs more often than he made them. We need a better QB. Key word is BETTER. We could dump Hotrod and end off worse. Think of the Chargers game for example. -
I have a plan. Firing may be a little heavy handed. However, when a ref makes a blunder call because they don't know the rules like the 4th and 1 play, they get suspended. To come off of suspension they have to pass a 100 question rules exam. Best thing to help refereeing would be to re write the record book making all the rules concise. A player catches a ball once he catches it and takes 2 steps. Something you can look at and count. Get rid of vague stuff like football move etc. However, I think this is just what the NFL wants, a way to queer the game when they need/want to.

Playing in the AFC championship game is a "fringe playoff team"? Sounds more like the 3rd or 4th best team in the league to me. Amen. This opinion is silly, but prevelant around here imagine IMHO. -

Be careful what you ask for ... I'm 100% for getting a BETTER QB, not another QB. So if we can bring in someone better, bring him in. I do not have much patience though for baby sitting a snot nosed rookie QB when our team is this close to being a playoff team if not an out and out playoff team pending Sunday's results. -

I'm totally 100% for dumping the whole thing and going back to calls on the field. If they MUST have it which evidently they must, I'm just trying to speed it up a little. -

So when for the rest of the league minus 2 teams and the Bills, it's 2nd and greater than 5.67. That's even terribler. -

Also the Carolina game. Not Hotrod's fault Zay can't catch. I know it hit him in a bad spot, the hands, but still. -

I agree on Alex. I just put his name in because I read on here at least once a day that Alex = Hotrod. How many of those QBs have been playing for 17 years? -

Not sure of the salary, but Phillip Rivers and Joe Flacco hopefully will be joining them Sunday. Add Marcus Mariota (maybe) and Jameis "Crab Legs" Winston to the franchise QBs sitting out the playoffs. Russell Wilson may be too. Add Suck for Luck and Watson and Rodgers due to injury. Trbisky. Meanwhile Alex Smith and Case Keenum are in. I thought if you had a franchise QB you were set? I'm confused. -

I have a couple of suggestions to help IR. 1. Set a time limit like 30 or 45 seconds for the ref to watch video. After that, screen cuts off and the call is upheld. 2. the replay ref can only slow it down to 1/3 speed. 3. change the rule of where the football is spotted to where after a knee or whatever it hits, it's where the football hits the ground. #3 gets rid of all the BS of where was the football when his knee went down. -

Good point. They also think they don't Cheat and the NFL is out to get them. Consider the source. -
