Quick link for those that may have no info on him: http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?prospect_id=2969

Looks pretty good in tonight's Cotton Bowl. I could see him as a decent later round acquisition. Anyone have more info or thoughts on him?

I think you know as well as I do that there is more to the fewest sacks stat and the 5 ypc stat than the OL play. Although I'm not disagreeing that our OL did what was asked of them pretty well this season. I'm not saying LT is our biggest need. But the topic was more on Martin, not the biggest Bills needs. I would be the first to say pass rush (DE/OLB). I could even see a WR. But I also think a legitimate stud LT could be very beneficial to the team. So, is Martin able to be a stud LT in the NFL? How does he compare to past stud LT's, and how does he compare to the current Bill's LT's? I liked what I saw in the bowl game, but I admittedly don't know enough about the LT position, or Martin's whole body of work to determine how good of a player he is/isn't and how well he projects in the NFL.

I haven't seen Stanford play much this year, but I really liked what I saw from Martin in the Fiesta Bowl the other night. I thought he looked pretty agile and moved his feet well, as well as got in good position run blocking. I know the Bills need a pass rusher, but I wouldn't throw a legit LT out the window. I just doubt that the Bills would pick up a new tackle since they seem to have a logjam of average tackles already on the roster. Anyone else have any thoughts on Martin?

Ryan Fitzpatrick is "Regressing to the Mean"
Joe Miner replied to FrankReichComeback's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, it must have been 1 hell of a season to revisit this topic again. Apparently this forum regresses to the mean every few years. Or maybe we progress to the mean? -

Fitz Has Possibly Had A Broken Rib Since Toronto?
Joe Miner replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. But I dislike the term regressing here if I can be a bit nitpicky. I think if Fitz was put in this same situation at the beginning of the season, you would have seen the same results. Most QB's would fail in this offense. To me, it's more like you've found Fitz's point of failure. If he were a load bearing structure, we're just found out what kind of load he can bear. He's currently being asked to bear too much, and that's why he's failing. The structure hasn't gotten worse or regressed, it's just been overburdened to the point of failure. -
Fitz Has Possibly Had A Broken Rib Since Toronto?
Joe Miner replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure why there's so much confusion about the state of the Bills Offense. 1) We are injured. 2) We have no depth. 3) We are asking low skilled backups to step in and perform the same roles as our currently injured starters. 4) Several of our starters were average at best, and were being helped by the more skilled guys who are now injured. 5) This limits the gameplan's ability to change and adapt. 6) This limits the amount of adjustments a qb can make on the field. 7) Our OL was already being helped by quick developing plays and reads. With backup OL, backup WR's, TE's, and RB's, those quick developing plays just aren't what they need to be. 8) Our QB got hit hard, and is likely dinged up. 9) Our QB probably has little faith in the current offense to protect him and allow him to get the ball out quickly, hence his bad mechanics. No one player has gotten worse. Guys just don't forget how to play football. Fitz isn't wasting away due to lack of strength training. -
No doubt. But I would still like to have seen that happen. If these were non-basketball kids that started/participated a fight like that on campus, there is a good chance they would get kicked out of school. At least put on double secret probation.

Kids should be kicked out of school.

Debate - The BCS National Championship Game
Joe Miner replied to Virgil's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It shouldn't be an issue. Since Nick Saban is on record as saying that if you don't win your conference you shouldn't be playing for a national championship, I fully expect Alabama to withdraw from the title game and let OSU play in their place. -

Assuming the Bills draft somewhere between 8-12, here are some possibilities I hope are available to look at picking: 1st - Courtney Upshaw - OLB/Jonathan Martin - OT/Alshon Jeffery - WR 2nd - Mike Adams - OT/DJ Fluker - OT/Dwayne Allen - TE/Xavier Rhodes - CB/Nick Perry - OLB 3rd - Levy Adcock - OT/Nick Toon - WR/Josh Chapman - NT You may disagree with whether or not a guy will be there (or even if some of them declare), but I will say that there are always guys that slide, and the draft never goes as expected. These are just some prospects in potential rounds that I think could be available at when the Bills pick.

A) I didn't make an argument. I posed a question. B) Even if that was an argument, nothing in your statement there refutes it.

Without checking any numbers, I wonder how many of these jobs are specific to the Christmas season? Retail stores stocking up on employees for a couple of months, and will let them go come the new year.

A parent does more to affect their kid's weight than shoving food in their face or keeping it from them. They set examples of proper and improper eating habits. They provide healthy and unhealthy meals. They provide healthy and unhealthy snacks. They dictate when, what, and how much their kid eats. They set examples of exercise. They encourage and make their kids get off the couch once in a while. They monitor and correct their kid's health. These aren't just sins of omission that the mom is guilty of. In order to get a 200 lb 8 year old, I guarantee there were was plenty the mom actively committed.

I completely disagree.

Is this your stance just with obese kids or do you have this stance for all forms of child abuse?

If you think this is the first the mother has heard from a doctor that her kid needs to lose weight, you're a bigger retard than I first thought. This didn't happen overnight.
-
They certainly mocked him mercilessly on the Charlie Sheen roast.
-
You retard. The Doctors (who are the experts) already have the kid on a diet. Read your own damn link. The new foster parents don't have to be nutrition experts. They just have to listen to the doctors. Something the current mother has chosen not to do, and she's likely been making that choice since well before the gov't got involved. Having a 200 pound 8 year old is not something that it takes a parent who is an expert nutritionist to prevent. Or even fix. So you think it's terrible that the gov't would put some kind of requirement for the health of a kid, but you would put some kind of requirement on the qualifications of the foster parents. As if that were the only requirement that is necessary to help this kid. By the way, you didn't answer who was going to provide this mother the assistance that she needs to not make her kid fat. The doctors have already given her the diet, and that's not working. So who is going to provide this magical assistance? It sure seems like you hate the gov't intervening, but only because they aren't intervening like you want them to. Yeah, I do. Do I relish the idea of the gov't taking kids away from their parents? Absolutely not. But this kid needs help, just like many others that are abused daily. So tell me how you'd fix child abuse without the gov't stepping in?
-
So it's not the parents fault for this 4' tall kid being 200lbs? The percentiles are around to show how out of normal this kid is. Being that far from the norm will have a negative affect on him. That's not a guess. If there are circumstances that allow this child to be that far out of the norm, that's one thing. But there are no indications that this kid is any different medically from any other 8 year old. It's not a risk. This kid is morbidly obese. I'm not up to date on the specifics on the case (as I doubt the rest of you are as well), but the 'government' didn't just show up one day, see a fat kid, and take him away. I'll almost guarantee you that the mother was notified of the issues, and probably given opportunity to correct them. If not, she should have been. But assuming that she was, she has now failed twice. Once to raise a healthy kid, and once to correct an unhealthy kid. Neglect is a funny word. Her kid didn't need to be 200lbs. She has already neglected his health by letting him get that fat. So because a kid that is abused in some mental or physical way at home can hide it from his teachers and classmates means that kid is just fine and dandy? No problem worth worrying about there, because he doesn't have any issues at school. There's no indication that a foster home won't beat or abuse a kid either. So are you saying since we can't prove that foster parents will do a better job than the currently abusive parents, we should get rid of the whole foster parent system? There's no way to prove another set of parents will be better ahead of time. And nowhere did I state that each case shouldn't be handled individually. Good Strawman. Who gives her this assistance? The "all-knowing" government?
