Most schools are too large for 1 solo cop/security personnel. I would argue that 1 cop would be largely symbolic, possibly still effective to a degree, but still largely symbolic. If he happened to be taking a **** while the gunman entered the school, he's not gonna be able to provide much security. Schools are gonna have to staff multiple security professionals to be prepared to deal with something like this.

Whatcha gonna do with your little pop guns?

I will say that the actual shooting portion of the test isn't that strenuous, and the word test is probably a misnomer. You don't have to be accurate, just display a functional knowledge of the gun and safe handling. That's why I said check the laws. In OK, you also have to sit through a class as well to cover the legal aspects of carrying a gun and cover some basic safety procedures.. If that's not required in FL, then he wasn't really doing anything wrong. Irresponsible maybe, but not wrong. -

Last thing I want is some jackass out there with a CC license shooting someone and making people want to get rid of my license. Especially some Palestinian terrorist as meazza pointed out -

You should look in to the Florida laws for Concealed Carry. If that guy was advocating bypassing some of the requirements, you should report him. -
To me the question boils down to: Who is responsible for my child's protection at school? I don't care if the guy came in with a bat, a knife, a gun, or fists or fury, who is there to protect my child? With a several minute response time, police don't cut it. Either the teachers need to be trained and capable of doing the job, or there needs to be some trained security there. I tend to lean towards trained security, but that's mostly to allow the teachers to do their job, and have the security handled by people that are capable and trained. I have a hard time envisioning many of the teachers that I've had or seen in my life providing adequate protection for my child against an armed assailant. Although some basic training for teachers would be a good idea as well. More secure doors and automatic locks in case of emergency would also help, along with several upgrades to the actual physical security of the building and the school grounds. Does it raise costs for schools to hire security? Sure. But I'd be willing to bet that in all the bloated administration and other wasted school money that funds could be found. How many of us go to work every day to a situation that is more secure than a school? Fences? Security guards? Locked and Secure Doors? Why would we send our kids somewhere that they are completely unprotected?

SKIPPED THE GAME TO WATCH THE "HOBBIT"
Joe Miner replied to bisonbrigade's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I liked it. Saw it in the HFR 3D. Took a bit to get used to but it was interesting. It looked a lot more "fantasy" like than the LoTR movies, smoother and more vibrant. Soilers....Maybe? -
Yes. Look at the number of guns in this country (http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/09/politics/btn-guns-in-america/index.html - 310 million non-military). Look at the number of accidental deaths from a firearm (about 700/year from the best I can find of that only about 200-250 are child deaths). The overwhelmingly vast majority of guns in this country never hurt anyone, especially children. Now if you want to play semantics, is your money in the bank vault really secure? Well, no, it is possible that someone can rob the bank and get the money, but it's highly unlikely. Few things in this world are absolute.

When did you meet the family? Well, you know the first guns that are getting hit will be AR's. Not a bad way to hedge an investment. Buy 2 now, wait till they are no longer sold. Sell 1 for triple your cost, and you just made a pocket full of cash. Personal self defense in public: Handgun Home Defense: Shotgun - Not hunting shotgun, actual home defense shotgun All Around Defense: AR That's just my opinion. But heaven forbid you buy one of each. Then you're an evil "survivalist" or "enthusiast" waiting to wreak untold chaos upon the world.

I don't know. If you adjusted for proportionate media coverage maybe, but I think it would be close. -

Not to pee too much in your Cheerios, but Nirvana (mostly Cobain) was possibly the most overrated band ever. -

I think they get handled easily by the Seahawks. Pick up a few more injuries, and then go to Miami and get beat in an all around ugly game. And by week 17, I think there are so many injuries, and guys that have lost faith that we lose to a Jets team that refuses to be beaten by the likes of the Bills. Key injuries between now and end of season: Spiller K Williams Chandler

Fred Jackson - torn MCL, out for season

That I wouldn't disagree with. 3rd...not 1st. We have to reserve our 1st for our future bust of a QB. -

Then it's definitely a perfect fit for the Bills. By the way it was sarcasm in my first post. It doesn't matter what RB it is, the Bills shouldn't be drafting one in the first. -

And with the 10th pick in the 203 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select: Eddie Lacy, RB Alabama
