I think they'll be picking up a tackle at cut down time. The issues were strikingly evident against the Steelers defense. Can't go into the season without a backup plan behind Brown. Maybe Brown finally proves himself, but up to now, he simply hasn't.

Evans could sneak on to the roster if he continues to return like that. I completely agree about Isabella. He looked too hesitant. We have a huge hole at return man right now.

I think Evans should get more reps. He looked like the best returner out of the bunch and held his own running the ball. If he can continue to look good as a return man, he might win a roster spot. All the other returners seemed pretty hesitant. I am very worried about the return game since Hines got hurt.

Both Elam and Jackson with pass interference calls. Not how you win a starting job.

For the sake of comparison, check out the video in this thread. That defense really rallied to the ball. Back then though the rules were much different. Football was more brutal. Today it's seems to be more finesse and less strength of will. Eye of the tiger? Not so much.

I think Davis has flashed when both Diggs and Beasley were on the team. As a #2 he has thus far disappointed somewhat because of injuries. He still has potential, but availability is a concern. For that reason, he may not be here after this season. For now though, I think the Bills will use him in a contract year. It still remains to be seen if he can finally break 1000yds as a #2 and quiet the doubters. I think he does it....unless he's hit with the injury bug again.

The physically unable to perform list, better known as PUP, is a designation for players who are physically unable to perform football services due to football-related injuries. These players can participate in team activities but are not allowed to practice. Active/PUP list: Players are placed on this list during training camp and count toward a team's 90-man roster. Players can be removed from the list at any time during camp, but can't be placed back on the list. Players on this list as of final roster cutdowns must be placed on the Reserve/PUP, released, traded or counted against the 53-man roster. Reserve/PUP list: Teams must decide by the 53-man roster cutdown deadline (Aug. 30 this season) whether to place a player on this list. Players placed on this list at that time must miss at least the team's first four games -- down from six in seasons prior to 2022. Unlike in the past, players can be activated immediately after such time has elapsed. Any player who is designated Reserve/PUP on or after rosters are reduced to 80 (Aug. 23 this season) will also be subject to the same four-game absence. Players on the PUP list are paid their entire base salary. The running backs are fine. The OL is what is going to make the bigger impact in the run game.

His propensity to run the ball too much has changed. He has been better at time management. He is always talking about things that the team can do better, including him as a coach. It's his job. Just like in my job I am certainly better than I used to be at it. He certainly hasn't regressed. BTW, his handling of the Hamlin situation last year was total class. Not sure many coaches would have allowed themselves to step outside of game mode to say he should be with their team mate like he did. These are moments in time when you absolutely have to make the right decision. He showed his leadership is second to none in that moment. Under pressure, he was spot on. That is leadership.

He's old. I don't want a coach in decline. I want one that is on the rise.

This may sound strange to some of you, but I like who we have. McD is an up and coming coach. Reid is now in his twilight years. Our coach has been through fire and has learned from his mistakes. He's the one I want leading the team. Reid has had some awesome offenses. McD has too. And McD has had some pretty awesome defenses as well. It's been a grind with McD, and that is what will make winning a Superbowl with him all the sweater. The grass isn't always sweeter on the other side of the fence folks. Be careful what you wish for.

I like the read option sprinkled in, but do not like seeing it done often simply because it does get blown up when the defense begins to anticipate it. Josh was killing it with the read option 2 years ago, but last year, it didn't work that well. Defenses are adjusting to it. The thing that drove me nuts was how long it took Josh to either hand it off or decide to keep it himself. You have to be decisive so you don't give the defense time to close in. Wait too long, and it won't matter if he keeps it or hands it off. The play gets blown up.

So what? Every professional athlete wants to get paid. Doesn't mean that is his only motivation.

I see a lot of "We could have had Oliver playing out of his mind in a contract year and now we're getting more meh", haha. There are other things that motivate pro athletes besides just money. Like, I don't know, winning a championship. Oliver will be fine, IMHO. He's what 25yrs old? Still a baby and still getting better. People are really overdoing it with the negativity.

I think it's hilarious to think Josh is going to do a lot of short quick timing passes with a better OL. If he has time back there, he is going to feast on those 10-30yd passes that he loves so much. The whole reason for drafting a TE to replace what Beasley used to do, is force a 1 on 1 match up on the outside. If those over the middle passes become a significant threat, one of those safeties will not be able to double the outside receiver. I'm not saying there won't be some quick timing passes but Josh's strength is pushing the ball downfield. Defenses were able to effectively take that away because there was never a serious threat over the middle last year. That changes this year because the outside receivers will not both be double covered. The offense is going to jump significantly in air yards. Hopefully, the run game improves too. I believe the focus on offense is not to improve quick timing, but to improve passes over the middle. Make that a threat, and Diggs and Davis will feast on single coverage.

I can't help thinking that the young DE's on this team need to be let loose. I think coaching is at fault. The Bills had Von last year and another vet before that was always attacking the QB while the other side would play contain. That changes if you have 2 of the youngsters playing at the same time. It just seems that they always have one DE playing contain in this defense while the other is attacking. Those roles should be reversed imo. Let Shaq play contain and turn those young bucks loose. Or put 2 of the young guys on the line at once. Time to stop babying them along.

Remember the whole reason for having a reliable slot receiver is to get one of the safeties to move up. Why? Because it leaves one of the outside WRs in 1 on 1 coverage. That is where Josh was making his money before defenses started doubling the outside receivers last year. Kincaid or whoever is playing the slot role is going to see plenty of targets just to force a safety to play shallow instead of deep. I think this is the real reason Kincaid was drafted in the 1st round. I voted Kincaid, but I am now questioning my own vote, because there seems to be a committee of slot receivers, plus we know that all of the receivers must play both slot and outside in this offense. Plus, Knox is still going to get some reps too. The beauty is that none of us can really predict who will be second in targets and that is by design. It will depend on how defenses play us. It will depend on who is most effective playing that slot role. I believe the offense is designed so that multiple receivers must play slot. Even Diggs occasionally caught passes across the middle. Perhaps having someone else going across the middle will save wear and tear on our outside receivers too. Kincaid has a chance to see more reps because he is bigger and can block in the open and because he can also go into presnap motion and catch balls out of the backfield. He was also effective blocking for RBs. This is way different than putting a smurf in at slot. It is also a great way to disguise what the play will be, because of these additional things that Kincaid does. When a smurf is on the field, the defense knows the only thing he is going to do is run a slot route. He isn't going to block, he isn't going to run downfield and block for a running back. And sure as hell isn't going to stay in and block for the QB. I think Davis may actually end up being the biggest benefactor if one of those safeties decides to leave him in 1 on 1. All Josh has to do spread the ball around, hit those slot routes and put pressure on the safeties.

If I had to guess, I think there was a concerted effort to get bigger players on the field. Just about every draft pick and FA pickup is bigger except for Edmund's replacement. I think they saw how beat up the team was by the time the playoffs came around and simply decided it's time to dish out the punishment instead. Really optimistic about this season.
