I'm going to give the coaching staff & Management the benefit of the doubt. I want to wait & see what they look like after about 4 games. Since preseason doesn't matter & most Head Coaches don't show their hand in terms of offensive plays, let's see what happens in a few regular season games. Jauron has to acknowledge that Belechick is a great coach since he's not beat him once in 6 games over 3 years. So, opening the season against the Pats, why would he want to show much in meaningless preseason games??

Fine is the best blocker of the TEs. Schouman is the starter. I think Hardy stays on PUP & Omon stays at least until Lynch is back. McIntyre may get another try at carrying the ball tomorrow to see if he's worth keeping. As others have said, they could keep a 4th TE if McIntyre is cut. Likely one or the other. Since we know the Bills Mgmt is stubborn with the 3 "motor' guys at DE in Schobel, Denney & Kelsay, I would still like them to keep both Ellis & C.Bryan but I think they can only afford to keep 5 DEs. LBs and safeties usually fill out the roster for special teams.

Just got the latest Sporting News issue which includes an NFL Preview and along with breaking down by team, they break it down by division, with guys with NFL ties providing input. For the AFC East, Herm Edwards picked his all AFC East team. I was very amused to see our own Ryan Denney as one of the DEs. The team is legit for every other selection, with Brady, Moss & T.O. so I suspect Herm forgot Aaron Schobel's name. The 3rd Buffalo player on this team was McKelvin as a CB.

Grade the Bills first day in the draft
BobbyC81 replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan 2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A guy at the draft party I was at said his Dad coached Byrd. He said he's a good kid but didn't think he's good enough to be taken so high. I also looked at a Sporting News draft guide after that pick & he was the 10th rated CB. One negative on him was that he didn't have the speed to stay with receivers on deep routes. Doesn't sound like someone who can play well at free safety. -
If you took away the bombs Evans caught from JP, his stats would be pretty average. He could end up with his best statistical season with TO if Edwards plays well.

I could be wrong but I just don't see them taking Raji. They have to address positions of greater need: pass rushing DE, TE, OL (even more so if Peters traded). Having traded for Stroud, signing Spencer Johnson & recently using a 1st on McCargo (despite trying to trade him away) they also still have Williams. I doubt they see this as a position of need. In fact my take on the coaching staff's/front office's approach to the roster: QB- With Edwards as starter, having signed Fitzpatrick and still having Hamdan, maybe they'd take a QB in the later rounds RB- Despite Lynch's impending suspension, having Fred Jackson & Omon WR- Having signed Owens and using a 1st round pick on Hardy last season, I believe they think they're set at this position TE- a position usually addressed in 3rd round or later. Last time they used a 1st rounder on a TE was in 1983 on Tony Hunter and he bombed. If they think Pettigrew is the best player on their board then maybe they'll take him but I expect them to wait til the 2nd or 3rd round OL- this org has ignored this unit in the early rounds of the draft for a long time. At this point, I'm not sure that'll change. I hope that changes as they need better young talent DL- As I said, I don't think they'll take a DT. We know DE is the need so I think that's the likely use of the 1st round pick Who is another question. I was impressed that Maybin added all of that muscle but since it has affected his explosiveness, he seems to be a tweener best suited for the 3-4 which the Bills don't use. I think the pick will be the more well-rounded player in Ayers. LB- Hopefully Jauron stating that Ellison is the starter was just blowing smoke. They can't rely on just undersized guys like him and "great motor" overachieving guys like Di Giorgio and Costanza. This may still be addressed with somebody like Freddy Keiaho but I would hope they use no later than a 3rd on this unit. DB- Maybe they'll use a later round on a player for depth & special teams. I don't think it's a priority position

You're going a little overboard here. At one point he was a very impressive player for the Bills. Remember when he was on the kick coverage team and flying down the field. He was a freak of a physical specimen and they liked him & found a spot for him. His problem now is he has let success go to his head & thinks he's better than he is and doesn't have to work at it anymore. Save the POS comments for players that deserve it. JP??

RUMOR: Big curveball coming in with our first pick
BobbyC81 replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Remember when rumors started about Warren Sapp prior to the draft and he dropped?? He think he had a pretty good career. -
Look how just one move has changed the attitude of this board. After last season's collapse, I was actually thinking of dropping NFL Ticket since I mainly get it for Bills' games. Now I'll probably keep it. While not the magnitude of those of you who were thinking of dropping their season tickets, it reflects a change in my attitude about this team.

I'm not sure if I'm psyched or pissed.

And it's also not guaranteed, with no bonus, so they can cut ties with him at any time and it doesn't cost them anything.. -
I was amazed to read that TO had 33 drops in 2008, Maybe that was a typo. I had seen graphics in recent games where a guy who was known for dropping passes led his team with like 12. 33 drops is 2 per game over a full season. And, for all of TO's faults, he does play hard. He doesn't dog it blatantly like R.Moss when the play isn't going to him. He has been a good downfield blocker also. Of course, at 6-3, 225, he should be.

Yep. Unlike when JP was given the strting job, there is nobody else on this roster as a threat to him. This is both a good & bad thing. If he gets hurt (notice I didn't say when but almost did) we have the weak-armed Fitzpatrick, who hejped Houshmanzadeh and Ocho Cinco to career lows in yards per reception. However, he doesn't have to look over his shoulder. I'm still wondering, if July rolls around, and the likes of Frerotte & Garcia strill don't have team, whether the Bills may consider adding more experience to the QB crew

He's already "playing" for his next contract.

Strictly from a X's and O's standpoint
BobbyC81 replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And Josh Reed back in the slot. After Dallas let TO go, I thought about what it would be like if New England signed him to pair with Moss outside and Welker in the slot. This may not rival that but could still be potent. -
Aaaarrgghh!!! Who cares how tall the guy is if he can play???!! London Fletcher is only 5-10, Did that hurt him in making 150 tackles a season for the Bills?? LB is one position where height doesn't matter.

Having heard all the discussions ad nauseum after TO was cut by Dallas, one strong point made by some: TO is not a bad guy. He hasn't been arrested, suspended for off field issues, shot himself in the leg, etc. He's just a very immature guy with a "Me" attitude who has been a cancer in the lockerroom. It is unfortunate that the Bills don't seem to have a coaching or player personality to somewhat keep TO in line. No Kelly , Smerlas or Talley. Dallas didn't have anyone either. Could use a Ray Lewis-type. Also, not sure TO would be a Levy character guy. -
Even though not on WGR now, they said something about posting it to their website. They have a reporter there.

I hate the Bills approach this offseason
BobbyC81 replied to firstngoal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like what I just read about Keiaho. Young and improving. I think they'd be better off with him than Cato June -
That's why I hope the Bills don't take Orakpo with their 1st pick. You hate to feel that way about a player just based on the school he's at but their history is not good. I guess Poslusny may not have much input on Maybin since he was a freshman when Pos was a senior but I'm sure he still keeps in contact with the PSU coaching staff.
-
I've read that he's considered by some to be a once in a decade level TE. You don't hear that about any of the DEs, although Michael Johnson was highly thought of before this past college season. He has the lack of motor issue but may be worth a chance in the 2nd round.
-
Remember that Parcells has said in the past that he doesn't believe in spending big money on WRs that are only involved in a few plays per game.
-
That's why a team like Buffalo needs to build thru the draft. If they can't attract the free agents, invest in their college scouting staff to find the diamonds in the rough. They especially can't afford to have 1st rounders be busts (Mike Williams, Erik Flowers, Losman), or trade them away for players who don't have a lasting impact (Bledsoe). You've also had trading up to draft a disappointing McCargo and taking a risk on an injured McGahee when you already had a productive RB in T.Henry. They don't have to "hit All Pro home runs" with each 1st rounder but need to at least get a productive starter (like Whitner, Evans, Clements) out of them. The misses & mistakes with the 1st rounders are a big reason for this playoff drought. I saw an article before the Super Bowl about what Pittsburgh had done with its 1st rounders in the last 10 years and it was pretty impressive.
