The LA Lambs--57 first half yards vs the Steel Curtain of the SF 49ers. Wow. And no first round pick next year, either. But they have a great running back!
-
I don't think Sammy has wanted to be here since the beginning. Or at least since his first season was over. Part of the reason why I believe he doesn't play through injuries. Why chance the possibility of re-injuring himself or making things worse.
There's no real evidence of this, but it would not surprise me if it's true. If you were Sammy, would you want to play for the Bills? I don't think any other NFL team could have limited his production the way the Bills have, and will probably continue to do in the foreseeable future.
-
I distinctly remember the Bills' FO reassuring us that the surgery was no big deal and that Sammy would be absolutely fine. This was also cited as a reason that there was no need to consider a WR with our first round pick.

It was more of a question, really. So Pegs has turned the Sabres around? I haven't heard much here on the west coast about all their playoff appearances since he has turned them around.Didn't keep you from commenting though..
Cleaned house, tanked, reloaded and the set stage for future.....
-
I don't live in Buffalo anymore and don't follow the Sabres, but as inderstand it, the evidence for this statement is pretty slim.Pegs seemed to have fixed the Sabres

Well, the defense had some very good games last year too, and the offense had some stinkers. What I meant is the awful penalties and the general impression of an unprepared, out-coached football team.Year 2
And I dont agree that yesterday was like last year.
The offense was absolutely horrible last year.....last years offense looked much better.
but
There were contributing factors. I need to see a trend of bad Tyrod Taylor before I pass a judgement there....it was one game.
And by the way, Baltimore is a good team and that is not an easy place to win. But still...
-
Yep. And they did not have Gronkowski, either. They had a long time to prepare for this game and probably won't look as good in their next few, but they definitely sent a message tonight. But that was helluva impressive. Nothing but respect for that. I don't really blame Rex for today but our coaches are minor league compared to The Cheatroits.
-
John, you are tireless, and you're right that one game is too early to panic. The problem is that this one game was entirely consistent with what we saw last year, and the year before that, and so on. And to make matters worse, there is not a scrap of evidence that the Pegulas know how to fix it. None.My plan is simple
Let football people that know more then you sort it out......
We are in year 2 of a new ownership.....since you dont have a damn clue of how to fix it.....let Pegula do it.
-
They don't win every game, but they absolutely never beat themselves. Always prepared.Even with a young QB making his 1st start on the road vs. a top team in the league Garopollo never looked flustered. He didn't burn a single timeout. You would think there would be at least 1 instance of a defensive front or alignment that confused him enough to burn one, especially with the crowd noise. That's just amazing preparation and you have to tip your hat.

Prescott making a lot of the throws Tyrod was incapapable of today. Of course it helps to play behind an NFL offensive line.
-
Maybe not, but he should.I don't see anyway Cardale plays this year, jobs on the line.
-
I hope Cardale's shoulder is ok. It would be nice to see what he can do. Guessing he can generate more than 100 yards.
-
yep, the defense has looked very good. Really could not ask for more. Not happy with kicking game or offense, but defense has looked great today against a pretty capable offense.
-
That's a very good call.Looking like Ray Lucas out there.
-
He looks very good.Sharice Wright is killing us today!!!
-
I'll tell you what, the Ravens know how to play defense.
-
Don't even think about kicking a FG here
-
Sure looks that way.Been bellyaching about it for months: offense killing this team.
-
You're wasting your breath. The anti-Goodwin crusaders wanted him cut before training camp started and then, when he earned the 3d receiver slot in training camp, still argue that the Bills don't know what they're doing (as if they had attended every practice and been in every meeting). The hatred on this board for a member of the Bills is downright bizarre. Is he supposed to throw the ball to himself? Or design plays where he's the primary receiver? The bills haven't exactly had a QB who goes through his reads before throwing the ball since he's been here. Even Orton would get rid of it quick to avoid getting hit.
If you watch the game, instead of just quoting boxscores, you'd have a better idea of why people know he's more than just the scrub you paint him out to be.
-
Of course not. The genie is out of the bottle though, everyone has fallen in love with the game the way it is. If contacted was drastically limited do you think football would maintain its stranglehold on the entertainment industry? It's a fine line and they are doing a good job walking it so far.
Fair enough. I just don't believe changing the tackling rule to require the tackler to wrap up would drastically change the game of football. I understand that it's a debatable point, though.

I wasn't trying to insult rugby or its fans, can we both agree that it would never become a main stream sport in the US after the exposure we have all had to the NFL? If football ever got so watered down due to safety precautions and legislation I think the viewing audience would turn to watching robots before it would a game like rugby. I used the term barbaric earlier because like it or not that's what captures our attention, look at the rise of MMA....
I agree that rugby isn't going to become a mainstream sport in the US as long as CFB and the NFL remain extremely popular. I don't think the reason rugby isn't as popular in the US has anything to do with how violent it is (or isn't); it's a cultural thing and also has a lot to do with the forward pass rules. Do you think football would be nearly as popular without the forward pass?
-
Should we compare the rugby viewing numbers to that of the NFL's inside the U.S. market? I'm sure those numbers would be nearly impossible to find because rugby's market share is so minuscule.
All the rule changes have been about reducing head injuries and eliminated much of the "head hunting" that would routinely go on against defenseless receivers. I think most fans would say those changes are for the better of the game. When you start mandating tackling form and other such things it will not be as widely accepted.
You didn't limit your comment to "the US market". Rugby is wildly popular in many parts of the world.
-
When rugby's popularity rises to that of the NFL then they should consider adopting some rules. The barbaric nature of the NFL is a major part of its appeal, are we all supposed to deny that now that CTE and other findings have been revealed? That's why we have seen such gradual changes to affect player safety, they are trying to do so without totally transforming the game and thus losing its appeal. No one wants to watch rugby, no one wants to watch flag football.
There is not a scrap of evidence that football would be less popular if rugby-like tackling rules were implemented. There have been numerous changes in the rules over the past few years to make football less "barbaric" and dangerous and yet its popularity continues to increase. And your comment that "no one wants to watch rugby" is just ignorant.
-
So a league wide mandate that requires all players to wrap up while tackling, how would that be enforced? How are you going to feel about that rule when Gronk is dragging Darby, Gilmore, Roby, and Rob Ryan down the field because you couldn't blow through his legs you had to wrap him up?
You're acting like there is no precedent for this. The rule would be enforced the same way it's enforced in rugby: if you don't make an attempt to wrap up, it's penalty. It's good tackling technique anyway; there are very few situations where it's not feasible to at least attempt to wrap up, even when you are going low on the ball carrier. And I suppose you could also have an exception in the "tackle box", like there is now for head-to-head contact.
Roby leads with his shoulder, I have no idea what your looking at.
Robey had his head down and delivered the blow with the crown of his helmet; he was leading with his head. I have no idea what you're looking at.
